Add Foyle & Powell to the rotation?

Why not? The 6-7 man rotation is hurting us in terms of versatility & fatigue. I believe that Foyle is strong enough to body up Boozer and will be a shot blocking presence. Its not as if Andris is tearing it up offensively. From what I've seen of Powell, he's the perfect guy to play a team like the Jazz. Seeing little used Dee Brown tear us up like that makes me wish that the Warriors expand the rotation a bit. Guys seem to be running out of gas a bit, I mean we seemed the slower team to the loose balls than the Jazz who played a game 7. These guys don't have to play a lot, just enough to spell Andris for a while. Also, we should not double Boozer and instead look to trap D-Wil and let the others beat us.

Powell maybe, Foyle nope
Powell does look like he might be able to contribute a 5 good minutes or so here or there in the series. He could bring some hustle and some tenacity on the glass. I'm worried that battling against bigger, stronger players is really taking it's toll on Jax, BD, Barnes, and JRich.

Foyle? Nope. I have no idea how he got a billing as a good defender. He's too slow, his footwork is terrible, and he's such a liability of offense. He'll get the occasional block, but most of the time he's getting beat off the dribble, getting dunked on, or picking up a silly foul. Look I love Foyle off the court, but on the court he's a disaster. He should never be playing. He's that bad. Foyle probably wouldn't even make the cut on half the rosters in the NBA.

The best thing would be for Harrington to shoot like he did in Game 1 and grab some boards. Also, Monta needs to show up. The unforced turnovers are unacceptable .

He should never be playing
Atma, you're probobly the biggest Foyle hater on the site (on court wise).
With his past behind him, Adonal looks toward the future, wherever it may be....

Okay,
so everyone else hates him (on the court) too. I guess I just notice you more....

Not so sure about Adonal
In a high scoring, free-wheeling game, Adonal is not exactly the answer.

But I can't see how a few minutes for Josh Powell to bang bodies with Boozer could hurt the cause. JP can make the 15 footer, he can rebound, and he has 6 fouls, right? I like it.

maybe jp
just to give boozer and okur a different look

Josh Powell
is no better (or bigger) than Al Harrington in the post and really isn't a good rebounder

He is actually undersized for his skill set

Every minute Foyle and JP play means fewer miuntes for someone else.  So where do you take those?

its amazing
how much doubt comes from a four point loss on the road! A month ago we would have been happy with the effort. It seems to me as if most people expected the Warriors to sweep the Jazz or better yet we probably should have been 82-0 in the regular season!

by triplesix on May 8, 2007 12:33 PM PDT reply actions

I don't
think it's really doubt, I think it's more worrying about how we are going to get rebounds. If you watched the game at all tonight you'd have noticed that we got anhiliated on the glass which is the reason we lost the game. We gave up way too many second chance points and if we continue the trend then it's going to be hard for us to win 4 games. Last night was a golden oppertunity to steal a game on the road and we weren't able to do it because of our ineffectiveness on the glass. As for Josh Powell I think he could be valuable in this series banging with Boozer and collecting boards. He's lanky and can jump and has some size to him so why not give him 5-9 minutes a game and see if he can snag a few boards our way. Collecting just 3 or 4 more boards last game would have led to a W instead of an L.

Blame the substitution patterns!
Seriously, who saw that performance from Williams coming? Even Jazz Fanzz are surprised.

by Tender Rony on May 8, 2007 12:52 PM PDT reply actions

hustle
I say Foyle, Powell, OR Azuibuke should get a chance. All of them want some action and will lay their bodies on the line for some boards. We need that for at least a good 5 or 6 minutes in a game.

Not
Foyle, we have to keep him out of the game at all costs. I think Nellie would rather go with 4 guys if it meant keeping Foyle on the bench.

Honestly
It's not going to make a millimeter of difference. Adonal Foyle will never play a real minute again.

we probably should
run them out there but just have a short leash on them. i don't think it could hurt anything too much. nellie is probably too stubborn to do anything tho

by AJC3317 on May 8, 2007 5:29 PM PDT reply actions

I could see
playing Powell.  He will hustle and maybe make some plays.  Foyle would play some good defense but I doubt Nellie would put him in because of his poor offense.  Maybe if they play the Spurs in the next round Nellie might have to play Foyle on Duncan.

While we're at it...
...let's hold a contest where one lucky fan gets run out there during the 2nd quarter, but just have a short leash on him. You know, just in case he doesn't do too well.

Let's Boogie With the Bootys Who Got Us Here
Can you imagine the physical condition the DNP bench warmers are in?  I mean game ready condition.  Do any of you really think any of these guys could just step on the court and  light it up on offense or bang the boards and make some killer defensive plays?  Spot playing someone who hasn't played all but a few minutes in weeks just makes no sense whatsoever.  Let's rely on the guys who got us here--but I would give Monta just a little more rope to see if he could get a rhythm going.

by commish on May 8, 2007 8:30 PM PDT reply actions

Agreed
we lose in the last minute, on the road to a higher seed, when we had a WIDE open look at a 3pt to win and now we want to throw the rusty scrubs into the playoff action?! We were one shot away - ONE possession. Does anyone have any evidence that Foyle or anyone else who hasn't played meaningful time in a month are going to have more positive than negative possessions while on the floor? Nellie is brutally honest - he only has 6-8 players on any given night. Given where the Dubs are, we're doubting him now? G1 verified we belong in this round with the Jazz, win G2 and we have home court advantage just like we did against Dallass ...

This diary isn't about game 1
Look, the intent is not to second guess Nellie. Agreed that we had an excellent chance to win the game. All I was trying to say was that we are facing a much more physical team than Dallas and it looked like the Warriors were getting beat in the hustle stats and I was theorizing because of the length of the rotation. It would be sad if fatigue were to play a part if we lose this series thats all. We've been winning because of the excellent play of our starters and good contributions from Barnes & Pietrus. But Utah is deeper and their style seems to dictate a longer rotation, thats all.

I don't buy the rusty bench guy thing. Utah seemed to use Brewer & Brown, who haven't been used much at all.

At the least, Monta should be given a longer rope and not the 5 minutes he got. I wouldn't mind Powell, Azubuike & Foyle in sporadic minutes but obviously Nellie is the man.
