Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Matt Barnes heading North....WAY north

Like all the way to the 707 SON.  Matt Barnes will be speaking at my former college Humboldt State University this summer for their youth basketball camp (for 2nd to 12th graders).  He's done it a few years in a row, and even though he blew up this year, opted to return...

Arcata (where HSU is located) is a tiny basketball-crazed town, and I can say for certain that they are thrilled to have a big-time (to them and us at least) bay area player like Barnes come and visit their quaint and funky town.  You can read the article in its entirety here on the Lumberjacks' (yes we're called the Lumberjacks!) website:  http://hsujacks.com/mbasketball/index.html

For those that don't know, HSU is a solid D-II basketball school.  We're not producing any NBA players, but one of our players did tryout for the Phoenix Suns, Austin Nichols...he's mentioned in the article.

Anyways, go dubs, go 'jacks, go Barnes!

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

My alma mater as well...
Love HSU, even though it makes living in Arcata very difficult sometimes. Good for Matt Barnes making the time to come up north. I'm sure he'll get a great reception.

HSU
AJC, what year are you up there?

I just graduated last Fall, did you play pickup ball up there or take Kinder's class?

Jalora, yea Arcata has its ups and downs, it's one of those towns you miss when you're gone, and want to leave when you're there. :D

What year did you graduate?

Through the haze
I wonder if Matt remembers how to get up there being that its always so hazy up there.  I bet you my life that Matty takes a small break after night hoops to relax if yall know what I mean...Stay Matt, Stay-PLEASE!!!

haha
Yea I'm sure he doesn't come for the beautiful women or the glitzy glam of Arcata, neither of which that town has to offer...although fine greenery is certainly in abundance up there.  Lords knows I lost a brain cell or twelve going to school there :p

got game?
brady,

it's worth a visit and their b-ball staff is full of good ppl.  i covered the men's team for a year for the school paper and the staff was always pleasant after a game (win or loss) and let me sit in on practices as well.

they need big men or a scoring guard.

go for it :D
