Yi Movement!

Just saw a little rumor that several teams such as the Celtics, Hawks, Bulls, and the Kings will be working Yi out to see his skills. Warriors are hopefully going to take a closer look at this guy and fufill the Movement!!

I hope the Celtics trade their 5th pick, because I cant see Yi Jianlian in a Celtics jersey or any other team besides the Rockets and Warriors!

GO YI MOVEMENT!! SPREAD THE WORD!!!

Stop with the movement
STOP...do you really want to trade one of our established players for a prospect?  Boston would ask for a crap load in return, and even the Hawks might take him if they really like him.  They would probably expect even more.  We shouldn't move up unless we get Oden or Durant because the only way to move up is to give up talent that we can't sacrifice unless we get immediate talent in return like Oden and Durant can do.  Yi we don't know.

i definately agree
unless we can get a good deal for him or nellie sees something in him that he really likes

Read Hoopshype today...
There are two rumors, 1 from Chad Ford talking about the W's trading Jr to move up.

by dallaswarrior on Jun 14, 2007 8:58 AM PDT   0 recs

Yi
If only we didn't made the playoffs this season, it's a no-brainer to make a deal for Yi Jianlian. Since we did made the playoffs, there's no need in sacrificing our proven players/core to get a lottery pick. The guy has played well in a mediocre league. Just imagine how well he will perform at the cream of the crop. He might end up being a more athletic Yao Ming in the NBA. Unless we're really that desperate to improve our athleticism in our beloved squad, then I'd okay the trade. But as of right now, we should be happy with our first rounder. This is gonna be a very deep draft. Regardless of who you will pick, you're more than likely to get yourself a "sleeper" in this draft. We're very fortunate to have two 2nd rounders in this draft, thanks to New Jersey and Minnesota.

Yi is nothing like Yao Ming
Comparing YJL to Yao Ming is like saying Jason Richardson is an athletic Elton Brand.

by jlagace on Jun 14, 2007 2:12 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I hope youre saying
that Yi is better than Yao because i believe just because of Yis mobility... hes probably the better player, lets alone the better athelete. This guy plays small forward.

Yi is better than Yao?
   "This guy plays small forward"

Duh ! and how many of those de we already have?
Yao is a freakin giant, we could use him. Yi is just a dunleavey in chinese garb.

by Skeptic con Urquell on Jun 15, 2007 9:41 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm saying
That it's comparing apples to oranges.  I mean comparing Yi to Yao (just because they're chinese) is like comparing Jrich to Elton Brand (because they're black).

Yi and Yao have completely different approaches on offense.  Not to mention one of them is 7" taller than the other.

by jlagace on Jun 15, 2007 3:14 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yi and Yao Comparison
I made the comparison mostly based on their hype. Yao is the better overall player than Yi. Yi is a better athlete and supposedly has the potential. I'm gonna have to reiterate my stance on saying that if we didn't made the playoffs, I'm all for the Yi Movement. I agree with somebody saying that if we do trade up, we might as well get a better player than Yi such as Horford or Brewer. We need J-Rich to blossom more while Nellie is still our coach.

by Phil T28 on Jun 19, 2007 6:10 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yi is
stupid. Why do we need him he'll do what for out team? he can't rebound! He hasnt played anyone in China nearly as talented or even just nearly as big as the people in the NBA... O everyone says potential.. potential.. wake up! he's 7ft tall and 200lbs... people that are 5'10" are 200 lbs... so this full can get his A** kicked by point guards... ok yes hes agressive ill give you that but i dare him to do that with dwight howard or shaq, or rasheed or ben wallace, or whoever thats in the middle.. hes gunna get killed. FOR JASON RICHARDSON.. are u serious... hell no... dont need a skinny 7 ft girl on my team Thaddeus Young.. Rudy Fernandez.. good picks.. we should just keep our picks and shoot for those people... or if anything trade for next years draft... top 5 or whatever names such as OJ Mayo, Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley are in that draft so dont be stupid and shoot for Yi... Good Luck Mullin

Yi vs. USA
He played pretty well against Dwight Howard, Elton Brand, and Chris Bosh of Team USA.

13pts, 7rebs, 50% fg, 2 blocks in just 24 minutes

by jlagace on Jun 14, 2007 2:49 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yi is more like 240
And he can rebound. When he worked out with Joakim Noah, Noah was totally wowed and said he looked like "the #1 in pick in the draft."

But thanks for coming onto the site and announcing right off the bat that you're a Class-A jackass. Now at least no one has to bother taking anything you post seriously.

" and announcing right off the bat that you're a Class-A jackass. Now at least no one has to bother taking anything you post seriously"

I dunno , the jackass makes more sense to me than the Yi movement crowd!  Do we really need another foreign project on the warriors? There's plenty of USA trained guys to choose from in the draft. I don't want to watch a circus next year, I just wanna see NBA style ball and maybe win a few games. I agree that Yi looks too skinny to be a power forward and too tall to be a good handler, sorta like a taller Dunleavey(who was also highly hyped in that draft).

by Skeptic con Urquell on Jun 14, 2007 8:56 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

circus?
I don't know what kinda basketball you're watching, but the Spurs (with international players like Tony Parker, Oberto, and Ginobili) are far from being a "circus"

im sure hes just talking about the way we play how it, to some people is not logical... as if it seemed as if we dont have a game plan and we play as if its a pick up game... but anyways im alittle towards his statement as far as "theres too many USA trained guys to choose from in the draft". i like keeping it home and i mean these people deserve to get drafted because theyre in our country... theyve played against the best.. i dont know exactly how well the CBA is but im 100% sure that the NBA is the hardest, excuse my language, shit around.. and i raelly do believe that it starts at home first then outside...

which brings me to another example.. why does the U.S. continue to shell out billions of dollars to other countries when we have problems here at home such as poverty and homelessness? whatever

Go warriors.

your final question
is on point.  in other words, why is America so obsessed with pointing fingers at other countries problems (i.e. the obsession with South Africa) when the US is a culprit in some of the biggest forms of local and global oppression?

anyway, keeping the nba game "American" is on concern about labor, but to assume that the US game--of ALL levels--is the best in the world, seems like a stretch.  You are comparing college basketball, kids that are not so far removed from playing 5'5-6'5 high school players regularly, in the same league as NBA players and BETTER than professional teams in China and possibly Europe? We don't know for sure how bad or how good China's teams are, but to assume that the college game is all of the "best" in the world, seems rather narrow minded and jingoistic if you ask me.

by dj fuzzylogic on Jun 15, 2007 6:18 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Well if you look at our stars
today who are the best players in the league? Americans. Even though the spurs did win it, Tim Duncan their leader is from The Virgin Islands which is part of America so yes im not trying to be racist but every single GOAT type player has been from our country, and of course im sure theres gunna be someone out there from another country that will do something great in the league one day and there already has people such as dirk, yao, parker, ginobli, i cant think right now of the rest but they're not as big as the names as to that of richardson (i just had to say it),kobe, mcgrady, lebron, jordan, magic, kareem, bird, chamberlain.. the list goes on... but then again maybe i have too much pride in our players and in our country.

Freud
is mean as hell but its cool i think we need people like him that stir people up and somewhat motivate people to think deeper about what they say and post... but for the weak, they may get scared to post something again and i even find that funny since its not like hes gunna go to your house and hurt you or something.

misunderstood
i'm not necessarily disagreeing with your statement that American players are "the best" nor do I consider you a racist for thinking that way. What I disagree with is the assumption that the American basketball system necessarily means that they will be great NBA prospects more so than other players. You mention earlier that Yi plays against subpar talent, which you then say that college players HERE will thrive more so. While the college game has produced MANY if not the most phenomenal players in the NBA, you're assuming that the college game offers far better competition than a professional league in China. I'm not against your statement that the NBA has the greatest players in the NBA, but to assume that a Chinese league is inferior to the US college game makes no sense. How many college players DON'T make it compared to the stars that you mentioned?

by dj fuzzylogic on Jun 15, 2007 10:15 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

im sure hes just talking about the way we play
"how it, to some people is not logical"

No I was sayin I don't want next season to be all about the new "chinese" guy. We don't need the distraction of wondering how the "chinese" guy does every night. I don't like the tail wagging the dog.
We are just one player away from being very good and the player we need is not another perimeter guy no matter what country he is from. Trading Jason or whomever for the chance to draft Yi would be stupid. The main reason I've seen it pushed is that the asian population of the bay area want him so that makes it double stupid( and not in the good kind of get stoopid either) What's with these people?  I'm irish but i'm not hyping a pat burke movement. If they talked about trading up for Horford that would make sense but I never hear about how well he would fit in because of the large black population in the bay area?

well
joakim noah is nothing more than an anderson verajao but slightly better averaging barely 3 more points pre-drafting woooo!!! and besides have u seen noah shoot? kinda not the right way its supposed to rotate backwards.. or atleast thats only how all the people in the NBA shoot it.. he gets points off of stuff that falls into his lap.. hes scrappy ill give him that but horford kicks his ass. and why would u want Yi what are u willing to give up? furreals so Yi weighs just about 10-20 lbs less than dwight howard? show me a tape of Yi shitting on people like dwight that are as competitive as the people in the NBA besides that little pau gasol garbage...

anyways, great makes sense right noah is right about Yi, he probably should be drafted over greg oden right? #1 right?

soo...
if you prefer NOT to draft an international player like YI, but prefer Fernandez, who is an international player, but not considered by your "international" standard... i think that's telling me something about what you think is "foreign" and "not foreign" and perhaps biases of what you think those different categories posses skill-wise.

by dj fuzzylogic on Jun 15, 2007 10:18 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

What?
both are foreign if i had a choice i would do my best to draft Thaddeus Young

Rudy Fernandez
is the next best international prospect in the draft. He's the more logical choice to draft at No. 18 because the best international prospect will probably be gone by No. 5. Yi is cool and everything, but it's just a fantasy to get him at No. 18 or trading up for him. We made the playoffs after 12 straight years of not doing so. We're the type of team that'll do more damage in tinkering a smidge to our current roster. I can see why everyone wanna have Yi on our team because we're the best fit for it. It's too risky to have a rookie of that hype or potential to mesh with our team chemistry. He is a Nellieball type of player, but we will want better leverage in our quest to making the playoffs next year. The West will absolutely be a lot tougher next year. With free agency gonna hurt us, we better do well while we're hot.
