Good question

• We've received many very valid requests from community members to consolidate threads here at GSoM. Sometimes it's not possible, but this a good example where it is. It makes it easier to keep track of threads.
  
• There's limited space for diaries on the front page. We don't want to unnecessarily push discussions down when we can avoid it, especially the diaries that people invested a lot of time writing up.
  
• Diaries are supposed to say something new and be of substance. This makes a great comment in the front page post.
