Around SBN: Is Adebayor About To Become A Full-Time Spur?

Udonis Haslem

Just a little bored and wanted to kick around an idea.

Warriors get:
Udonis Haslem
Jason Williams (expiring $9mil)
pick #20

Heat get:
Al Harrington
Sarunas Jasikevicius (expiring $4mil)
pick #18

Why Haslem is good for the Warriors:

  • strong post PF and a good all-around defender
  • athletic and can run the floor
  • proven above-average rebounder
  • efficient offense at 50% career fg%, has a decent open midrange jumper
  • 27 years old
  • Why Jason Williams is good for the Warriors:
  • huge cap relief next year to resign Monta/Biedrins
  • can come off the bench for maybe 10min game, show some veteran floor general leadership
  • can play his natural flashy PG style here and wow the crowd, his creativity was frowned upon under Pat Riley
  • Why Al Harrington is good for the Heat:
  • the Heat were ranked 27th in 3pt shooting, they have no deep threat besides Kapono, and Kapono might become a free agent; Harrington shot 42% from 3pt with the Warriors
  • the Heat just need more offense in general, also 27th in the league in points per game; Al Harrington is a versatile scorer who can score from anywhere
  • Why Sarunas is a good for the Heat:
  • expiring contract
  • I think he'll do better in this type of offense; all he has to do is pass it to Wade and let him create, or pass it in to Shaq, or hit the open jumper created by double teams; Sarunas doesn't have to be a playmaker here like a Warriors PG needs to be
  • career 36% 3pt shooter
  • Why the #18 pick is good for the Heat:
    - more security that they'll get a good PG in the draft like Acie Law or Crittendon, most mocks have the Heat picking a PG, which might imply they won't be keeping JWill around anyway

I don't really like that one. Haslem for Harrington straight up ain't even nice. for some reason, I just don't like that guy.

    not horrible
i don't understand why the picks needed to be thrown in. other than that i don't think i'd be too upset if this one went down. i doubt miami is looking to deal haslem tho

    Haslem
is the type of player we need except not low post presence. he could rebound, play defense, and hit that mid range jumper. but most importantly he could rebound.

    Its good
And both teams actually would consider it! Williams can be a crazy backup PG and then go away.

My only concern is that with the pick being thrown in, the Dubs would be kind of slim with big man depth. You'd be relying on Barnes to keep playing the 4 and that isn't the best of ideas, IMO.

    it's a good deal
If we remove the #18 from the deal. The Heat might be taking on a little salary, but they're getting probably the most "talented" player in the deal in Harrington.

Haslem's what Josh Powell wishes he could be: a little undersized, but supremely tough, good rebounder, energy, plays D, doesn't complain about not getting the ball, knocks down the midrange open J when he has to.

    Where do I sign?

    With the #20
The Warriors can still pick up a guy like Devon Hardin or Sean Williams, with  a possibility of still getting a Tiago Splitter.

The reason for swapping the #18 pick with the #20 pick is to give the Heat a better chance to get their PG in the draft, and we can afford to trade down a little if we do indeed go for Hardin or Williams.

    Missed the "swap"
Hmm .. at 20, the Warriors really could get a big man that has strong potential, but all the impact guys will likely be gone .. it'd be a risk for the Warriors with that pick thrown in. As OptionZero said, keep it out and this should be a deal.

    hmmmm
i think id do it.. haslem has decent scoring touch and could really help andris underneith. but is he athletic enough to run with us? i think he is but with miami its not like he had the chance. problem is, he is the perfect power forward complement (fiesty on boards, decent midrange j, can work off shaq double teams) for shaq and riley knows it. very good idea tho

I don't know if Miami would pull it
since Jason Williams is their only PG/guard with any speed besides Wade. The hole in their game was Wade was out and nobody pushed tempo when Jason Williams was hurt too.

GP will retire soon, Eddie Jones in a few more seasons at most but I guess Sarunas is a better guard then the guy in this rumor:

    ----->>>>Yahoo NBA Rumor <<<-----

The draft pick could yield them a guard with more speed though but they need someone NBA ready since Shaq's window is closing.

    about the Heat
You probably know more about the Heat than I do, because I don't get to watch them very much; but are they really the type of team that wants to push the tempo with big bad slow old Shaq and Alonzo, and aging GP and Walker?  I can't really see them running the break that much.  I assumed they were more of a halfcourt set team, which is why I suggested Sarunas.

Well it was mostly the announcers
this year being very adamant about them needing speed. I agree.

They are the slowest/oldest team in the league now, and they're not the machine the Spurs are that can hide their age in their guards/bigs well.

If they don't get speed around Wade and Shaq, they're the new Orlando Magic '94 two superstars and no (second since they did get one) chance at a ring.

Pat Riley might need a playmaker sure, but I don't know a whole lot more about the Heat other than I expect them to get more athletic since they got burned by the Runnin' Bulls.

I do like this trade for the Warriors though
even if the TMNT Harringturtle leaves since we still need to make another move to replace him adequately since he played 4 and 5 and we're only getting a prototype 4, Haslem (I also like his complementing Shaq game).

    I'd do it
I agree with the majority on this one. I'd drop the exchange of picks and do the deal if it was possible.

I've been a minor fan of the Pacers for a few years, and I always saw something in Al. I'd be willing to give him up in this deal, though, because I think it would benefit our team a great deal. We'd get a decent rebounder and intelligent player in Haslem. We'd lose a scoring option in Al, but as odd as it may sound I think we'd better off without so many scorers on our team. The way our team is built right now, I'd give up Al's 15 or so points for a nice share of hard-nosed rebounds. Powell could learn a lot. Al's been in the Playoffs, but Udonis earned a ring.

I really like Jason Williams expiring contract deal, too. That's a lot of money to shed next season and the major plus is that in limited minutes he's still more than capable of dropping a handful of dimes that Monta might not be able to. And with minor minutes comes more run-time in the "old" knees of JWill. And who didn't like eBoy running the show in Sac?

    I usualy don't like...
giving up the best player in a deal but this one is very interesting. It helps to solve one of our biggest problems (rebounding) and a couple of other serious ones (help for Baron at PG, and frees up money for AB and Monta). I would miss Al's 3pt shooting (and his turtle power) but I would probably still do it.

This would also take off some of the pressure to draft for need and we would hopefuly take the best player available. I would rather trade for need then draft for it.

By the way, it's nice to see a trade proposal that took the time to think about the other team and why they would want to do it. Very refreshing.

    Thanks
I think it would mainly boil down to whether or not Crittendon or Acie Law fall to #18.  If they don't, I don't think Miami would ever consider this deal because they'd be left with only Jasikevicius at PG, unless they can get a free agent like Mo Williams with the MLE.
