Hope of KG to the Warriors!

With all of the Boston and Minnesota hoopla going around, it is safe to say that the Warriors have one less team to deal with if they are indeed going for Garnett...

"Garnett's agent, Andy Miller, told ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan that Garnett made it known to the Wolves and Celtics late Wednesday that he had no interest in playing for Boston. The implication was clear: If Minnesota dealt him to Boston, Garnett would opt out of his contract next summer." http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2912075

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Great News
I hate to get too excited but man I just feel he is coming this way. We are gonna go for it. One big run in Nellie's last year.

I was thinking..
If we trade JR harrington and Ellis =the 18 and some more future picks we could resign barnes and have the 5 of
BD
SJAX
BARNES
GArnett
and AB

Problem is we'd be awfull weak off the bench and Harrington is Baron's bud so boss might play sad. I'm not sure Garnett is worth blowing up the team for, I don't like his personality as well as TMNT's and Jason's. I still think the best thing to do would be to try and replace monta with a real point guard and get a power forward that wouldn't cost us a big chunk of the team, maybe something like that turiaff guy is for the lakers, to come off the bench when we need some inside game? If we do nothing but draft sean williams at 18 and trade for a back up point that nellie would actually use we'd be looking pretty good.

Bench guys
Are easy to come by. Guys like Kevin Garnett are not.

Bench depth is totally overrated. How special are the Spurs' 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, and 9th men? How Special were the Bulls after MJ/Pippen/Rodman? Once you've got Baron/KG/Beans (or Baron/Kobe/Beans) in place, filling out the roster is mostly just a matter of being a reasonably savvy GM.

Jax, Barnes, Buki, and Powell is a decent group of role players. Throw in a solid player at #18 (Splitter, Thad Young, Rudy Fernandez, Nick Young or Al Thornton if they slide, possibly even Yi) and we're good to go.

As for backup PG... anybody for old friend Earl Boykins? Dude just opted out of his deal, loves the uptempo game, knows how to run an offense, and makes like 99.7% of his free throws...

Anyone on the Boykins bandwagon with me?

by Sleepy Freud on Jun 21, 2007 9:59 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

He's all heart
and crazy bench pressing power in that he outlifts everyone in the weight room!

Is he going to cost more than Saruney Cabbages?

He's a liability on defense of course and its not even his fault since its just physical limitations there. But then so is Nashty Nash, still a back to back MVP.

He was pretty clutch for us though way not too back when.

Also nearly every championship team during this decade has seemingly needed ice cold R-bob Horry, give him an MLEx2!

by back2back51s on Jun 21, 2007 11:13 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I may be wrong
But I think he's now a free agent; and given that he only made $3M last year, I'd imagine we could ink him for the MLE.

He's still only 31, and has basically improved every year he's been in the league. If Nellie's serious about holding Baron to 25-30 minutes per game to keep him from breaking down late-season, I'd feel really comfortable giving the other 20 or so to Boykins.

Yeah, defense is an issue. We'd have to make sure Jax and Artest (!) were on the floor at the same time he was.

My ideal smallish moves if we can't move JRich and/or Monta for a big name...

  • Trade Harrington for Artest (perfect match, contract-wise)
  • Sign Boykins for the MLE
  • Draft Splitter
  • Re-sign Buki and Barnes
Baron
Monta
JRich
Artest
Biedrins
----
Boykins
Jax
Barnes
Splitter
'Buki

Earl Boykins?
Haha! another frickin freak for the Oaktown circus to go with the tall chinese guy? Boy you guys just wanna throw all our guys out and start over! Get into the playoffs and dump them! Been down so long that you can't handle the winning? Well I kinda like our boys and want to see them play another season.

by Skeptic con Urquell on Jun 21, 2007 11:36 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

it wasnt really
a winning season! 2 wins over .500 and based on a very lucky remaining schedule with Clipper losses helped us in. A change or something needs to happen.

Boykins Monta Backcourt is just
Barkley Flamebait I know.

But Boykins is already NBA ready, Monta like 90% there?

Is a drafted at #18 or 2nd round college drunky going to be spelling Baron so his knees don't explode in inflammation fluids like Michael Jordan circa 2002?

Nellie doesn't like the rooks. If its not Boykins its Brevin Knight, 2nd to Nash in assists a year or so back at the 9-10/game mark on a mediocre team of swingmen. If its not Brevin Knight its someone else, this isn't the major move for the big donut hole in lacking a mobile big man we still need.

Also I'm not trading JRich for Yi either. Don't blanket everybody here with the Yi movement that oh by the way will most likely cost Jason Richardson.

by back2back51s on Jun 21, 2007 11:53 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Uh, no
We need a backup PG. Boykins may be the best available. How exactly would signing him constitute "throwing out all our guys and starting over"?

I get it, Skeptic. You like tall black guys. Or more specifically, you like our tall black guys. Other teams' garbage -- KG, Kobe, Josh Smith, Gerald Wallace et al. -- you can do without.

You think this team can compete for a championship just the way we are. Most reasonable hoops analysts, likely including Nelson and Mullin, would disagree with you.

we can find bench guys...
like sleepy said. But haviing that core is what is important. A great core makes a great team, we just need to find guys to fill roles after that. But this trade would make us a top 3-4 team in the west

by dallaswarrior on Jun 21, 2007 10:24 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

But haviing that core is what is important.
Yeah, But having the core consist of more than one high priced player and another even higher priced player! Remember this is a team game and 5 guys can't go all night long game after game without breaking down.  KG hasn't made Minnesota as good as our dawgs were last year. Kobe hasn't made the Lakers as good as our no-names were either. We beat the Mav's and shoulda beat the Jazz with our crew so that makes us pretty good in my book. I'd hate to bring in KG and ruin our team chemistry and put so much of our payroll and fate into his hands.  Now if he wants to come here so bad that he takes a low price contract then we'll talk, otherwise let's figure out something usefull like how we can tweak the team a bit without hurting it?

by Skeptic con Urquell on Jun 21, 2007 11:29 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dude
We already have a core that consists of one high priced player (JRich) and another even-higher-priced player (Baron). The problem is that one of them has constant injury concerns and the other, while a perfectly good player, will never be a franchise, team-leader type. I'm willing to go "all-in "on Baron's knees after witnessing what he did at the end of last year. He's truly a rare talent, and a leader. JRich? ... love him to death, but he's basically replaceable.

KG would cost about the same as JRich and Harrington combined. It floors me that you don't think he's more than worth those two combined. Man, I wish Kevin McHale thought like you.

As far as your chemistry concerns ... I've never heard one bad word said about KG as a teammate. Besides, winning is the best mf-ing "chemistry" there is.

by Sleepy Freud on Jun 22, 2007 12:16 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

The team currently comprised has too....
many weaknesses to be a championship contender. With KG and BAron and SJAX we are automatically able to contend for the 1-4 seeds in the west making us a......Championship contender.

I mean come on you have to at least consider this trade

by dallaswarrior on Jun 22, 2007 8:56 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

yep
they were just talking about it on KNBR. Apparently, KG's Agent is gonna say what teams KG wants to go to in two days. Fitz and Brooks think the Warriors will be on that list.

Yes, the Bulls are getting Kobe
Yi, and KG for Nocioni, Ty Thomas, and Benny the Bull respectively.

NBA.com doesn't have a news article on him going to the Bulls, I just checked.

Oh sorry
I didn't mean anything like that. Its just an article speculating what a Warriors deal would be, but I have to go through the process of checking facts and stuff.

Sorry again - its nothing that will knock your socks off. Just an educated look at what the possibilities look like, if at all.

Apparently
Marion refuses to go to Minny, meaning a third team would need to brought in or Phoenix will trade Amare for him.  This is getting more interesting by the minute.

Plus there are rumors going around that KG doesn't really want to go to the Eastern COnference.  I would think that the Bulls would be the exception.

by yehyeh82 on Jun 21, 2007 4:58 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

if kg wants to go to phoenix
and marion (also being able to opt out after a yr) is willing to play for only a handful of teams, the warriors should throw in jrich, pob, & foyle. phoenix basically gives up marion to the w's and atlanta's unprotected 1st rounder + diaw to the timberwolves. twolves start over w/ foye, jrich, diaw, possibly pob, this yrs 1st rounder (rumored to be either brewer/hawes), and next yr's 2 1st rounders.

pretty unlikely, and i didn't put al instead of foyle, b/c unless we move foyle it doesn't really help to lose two swings for one (esp. since the one, though better, is older). this should also allow us to resign barnes.

it would be contingent on no other marion-approved team ponying up something better. it'd be tough for marion to approve a trade to the east being that most of those teams would be left threadbare after trading for him.

the clippers could offer maggette, livingston, + cap filler. the blazers probably have the best offer w/ aldridge & randolph - assuming minny doesn't have a problem w/ off court issues. so pretty unlikely for us.
