Rumor: Kevin Garnett Wants to Play with Baron Davis and for the Warriors
With Kevin Garnett and his agent telling the Boston Celtics and their "braintrust" to stay the hell away from him plus the Minnesota Timberwolves' inept owner Glen Taylor and clueless GM Kevin McHale not so stealthily indicating that the superstar is available on the trading market [see Wolves-Celtics trade talk? Garnett says forget it on ESPN.com] Warriors Nation is left salivating at even the slim chance that KG could be coming to the Bay. GSoM friend Tim Kawakami thinks KG to the Bay has gotten a lot more realistic in the past week. Here's his take on KG to the Warriors:
I always have been told that Garnett would very much like to be a Warrior, a feeling that heated up after the acquisition of Baron Davis (KG really wants to play with a great point guard) and probably went torch-inferno during/after the Warriors’ Nellie-ball escapades in the playoffs.
By the way, I think it’s understood that Chris Mullin has been intrigued by Garnett for years and years, and that Don Nelson couldn’t find a better fit for his system than Garnett.
...
2. Would Garnett agree to a Warrior trade?
Answer: Almost certainly, yes. He wants to play with Baron and he likes California, enough said.
Make sure to check out the rest of Tim's blog post about KG to the Warriors on Talking Points.
I don't think I need to tell you how great of a player KG is, so I won't. I don't think I need to tell you how great of a fit KG would be for the Nellieball, so I won't. I don't think I need to tell you how much fun it would be see to KG in a Warriors uniform, so I won't. I don't think I need to tell you how much fun KG would have playing in the Roaracle Arena in front of the best fans in the league, so I won't.

We love KG in the Bay and KG will LOVE it here.
Ooops, I guess I just sorta did.
Mullin, Nellie, McHale, KG, KG's agent- We believe ya'll can make this happen... and you know what happens when We Believe here in good ol' Warriors' land.

I'll even eat Wheaties instead of Cocoa Krispies every morning if KG comes here!
That's more of a commitment to winning than Kevin McHale and the Timberkittens ever had in Minnesnowta.

Realistically
If the W's think they need to roll the dice and believe one man can change the outcome of the post season, here is what I'm guessing it would take:
JRich
Biedrins
Harrington
+ the 18th pick
If there is some way to move Foyle in this deal, I'd definitely pull the trigger, regardless of it ripping the heart out of this team.
Otherwise, I'd keep looking for a rebounder and backup for Biedrins and try to make another run with what we have.

If...
JRich
Monta
Al
POB
2nd 07
1st 08
for KG would devastate our roster, but if we resign Barnes for the MLE trade Sarunas for a usable piece or a 2nd round pick we could still put a pretty scary team on the court.
Baron
SJax
Barnes
KG
Andris
I don't really care whos on the bench that team would be nasty.

REALISTICALLY...
I know we only saw this team play together for half of a season which is probably why we caught teams off-guard, but at the same time, w/ a full season, teams will be able to figure out our weaknesses, which are definitely rebounding and probably plugging up the inside and forcing us to shoot from the outside!
So, I agree w/ OLYMPICMIKE when he said..."I don't really care whos on the bench that team would be nasty" because it really would! I might not necessarily agree that we should give them all that for KG, but whatever it takes...almost!

This is...
Golden State sends Patrick O'Bryant, Adonal Foyle, and Al Harrington to the Knicks. The Knicks in turn send Crawford, Lee, and somebody else I've already forgotten to Minnesota, who flip Garnett to the Warriors.
It is nice to dream, isn't it?

KG + Marko
for
J-Rich, Al, Adonal, POB, and the 18th pick?
Think this one would fly??
It works moneywise.....we'd pick up a back up PG also?? I'm not even sure if I like this yet...what do yall think?

I BELIEVE...
If KG wants to play for the Warriors, then we should have a 50/50 chance of landing him.
That's better odds than the ones that we had for making the playoffs last season. We still went on a 16-5 run with the toughest remaining schedule left in the league and we ended up making the playoffs even though it seemed impossible at first.
That was the first step in getting KG. When we got that national exposure in the postseason, he got to see how exciting it is here in Golden State and he also got to see what a great coach Nellie is. I'm pretty sure that KG had a little moment where he imagined himself in a Warriors uniform.
Now Mullin need to do his part in this and go on his own run to get KG to become a Warrior.

It'll hurt
Therefore, we are going to have to part with players whose absence will hurt us in our hearts(J-Rich) and on the floor(Monta, Beans) and hurt GSW's future.
I say keep what we have and try to get our salary cap under control so that we can resign Monta and Beans.

Aight...
J-Rich, S-Jax, Beans, and Adonal + the 18th pick.
for
KG + Marko
This one hurts a little more IMO. I know they don't want Adonals $, but the pick up Beans. This might not fit since they already have Ricky however. But would it be doable on our end?

Ok ok... I have a real HOMERISH trade...
New York gets:
#36 pick
Adonal Foyle
Project O'Bryant
Monta Ellis
Ricky Davis
future first rounder from G.S.
gives:
Steve Francis
Jerome James
Minnesota gets:
#18 pick
Al Harrington
Steve Francis
Jerome James
two future first rounders from G.S.
Minnesota gives:
Kevin Garnett
Ricky Davis
Golden State gets:
Kevin Garnett
Gives:
3 future first rounders
#18 pick
#36 pick
Monta Ellis
Al Harrington
Adonal Foyle
Project O'Bryant
There is no justification for this trade... as it is PURE fantasy! But hey... we did get Jackson & Harrington and got rid of Dunleavy & Murphy all for Diogu's potential... a shooting star might pass over the Bay Bridge next month.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Minnesota is the team that gets totally hosed in that deal.

Orlando!!!
- They're one of the few teams around with a surplus young talented big man (to replace KG)
- They're one of the few teams in dire need of a talented wing player
- Otis Smith is rumored to love JRich
GSW gets: Garnett
Min gets: Monta, Darko (sign/trade $10M-ish), Harrington

i hate to lose monta and j-rich
at the same time, i'm starting to think the best plan would be to go for something less dramatic, i.e.: j-rich for varejao.

I tend to agree
As far as trading JRich, that seems to be the most likely scenario because he is the only player with real value who would not leave a big hole in the line-up (thanks to monta). Hopefully they can find a deal that will get us what we need to fill out the team. I posted this on the main page but a deal like
JRich
Sarunas
POB
for
Varejao or Gooden
Gibson
Marshall
A trade like this one might be our best bet. It would fill some holes without making new ones. Hopefully Mullin and Nellie can do better though.

the best team to get involved?
Plus, they have a #8 pick they don't "really" need/want.
Perhaps something like the #8 (Noah or Hawes?), Sean May, Adam Morrison, Harrington, Richardson, and some huge trade exception to Minnesota
Ellis, POB and #18 to the Bobcats
Garnet and Troy Hudson (since his contract sucks, he wants out, and we need a backup PG anyways...basically it's extra incentive for Minnesota since we'll take Hudson off their hands) to the Warriors
Essentially we want to bribe Charlotte into using their cap space to make any deal work.

IF the warriors pull it off
The warriors cannot afford to part with 3 of Baron, Monta, JRich, Jackson, Al, and Biedrins. That's half of the core of the team (some consider Barnes to be part of this group; i don't disagree).
At the same time they probably have to unload 3 of those players (and possibly not resign Barnes) just to stay around luxury level and have a hope of getting under the luxury in the future.
And seeing as that the warriors are in the west the Twolves would no doubt prefer to ship Garnett elsewhere. Where does that leave us? Too many roadblocks to getting a deal done. We'll see what happens, but I think an Eastern team will swoop in (chicago makes so much more sense than any alternative).
by BingBluNT on Jun 23, 2007 2:32 AM PDT 0 recs
win now or plan for the future?
Sometimes you can't do both. To me, Baron, and even Jax, have about a 3-5 year window to "win now". I know alot of people want to hold on to Monta for the future. But, is he worth holding onto if KG is available?
If the Warriors are willing to give up Monta, I think they have a great chance of landing KG.
I've proposed this trade here before and I'll do it again:
J-Rich
Monta
Harrington
Foyle
for
KG
Ricky Davis
It works under the cap and gives the Warriors a legitimate chance to win a championship within the next 3-5 years.
Baron
Ricky Davis
Jax
KG
Biedrins
or
Baron / Monta
J-Rich
Jax
Harrington
Biedrins
Which lineup do you think has a better chance of winnning a championship?
