Around SBN: Has Kentucky Improved Since the Non-Conference Season?

glen davis

glen davis led LSU to the final four in 2006. After he finished working out with the warriors on thursday, he had a few things to say about nellie and co.

On Thursday, Big Baby worked out for the Golden State Warriors. Chad Ford of ESPN.com has Big Baby going to the Rockets at No. 26 in his mock draft.
It went good. I had a nice little workout. My hip's hurting a little bit, but I did pretty good today, but the hip wasn't too bad. I like the system over here. The guys are cool: Don Nelson's a great guy and Chris Mullin's a great guy too. And the way my game is, I can see myself playing here.

I would fit in well. I would bring another post presence and be another guy who can isolate and score. I think I would be a great fit and I know I could contribute here.

Being picked at No. 18 would be really SHOCKING ... to everybody else. I want to shock the world. I think people would be shocked by how skinny I've gotten, really, I'm just thinner by about 45-50 which puts me at 280. I definitely feel lighter and more smooth and more control of what I do on the court

If we can get this guy in the 2nd round it would be a steal.Yes, he is like 300 lbs. but he can run, shoot, dribble, rebound, and defend.

Watch his video here, he's #45

That ain't the Big Smoothie
That's the Great Chris "Headcase" Washburn.

Great image, though -- that expression pretty much sums up his enthusiasm for the game of basketball...

Gott a love Washburn...
I was aware of the photo, I put him there.  I just figured we were on the subject of overweight ball players, ala Big Vic or Hot Plate Williams.

Big ups to Washburn. Apparently he is in the mortgage game these days.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/preps/basketba/2002-05-08-washburn.htm

Despite repeated attempts, Washburn could only be reached briefly while visiting his mother in Hickory, N.C. He said he's "in the mortgage business" in Dallas.

i would take him
i bet you he is going to be like craig smith this up coming year. if we do get in the 2nd round its a steal.

big baby will be...
the second man in NBA history (behind oliver miller) to have to wear a sports bra (BRO or MANZIER depending on your affinities for Kramer or Frank Costanza) within 2 years. If he gets the guaranteed deal as a first rd pick, it will only take him 6 months to reach that status.

second rounder maybe
i would NOT take him at 18

I don't think he's on anyone's
mock draft at 18, yeah?

But I guess he has to sell himself.

i think he's under 300 now
I forget whether it was Ford or Draft Express, but some where I read he was down to 280 and had picked up some professional advice on training and eating habits that will help him keep his weight down

He's purportedly exceptionally good with his feet, shooting, handling the ball.

I wouldn't mind using our second second rounder, but i'm still locked in on Dominc Mcguire with #36

yeah, but how ong is that going to last?
as thatrabbi posted, if he gets a guaranteed contract - oliver miller 2 here we go. i'm not sure i'd even take him w/ a 2nd round pick since he is destined to eventually eat his way out of the league wherever he is picked.

i saw him
he was on best damn the other day
he lost a significant amount of wait 45 lbs
and it looks significantly different from the time he was in the final four last year
hes overall a great guy but i kinda have trouble seeing how he would fit in nellie's system. he seems like a polished diogu or something. he does have a lot more speed than diogu but i dont see anything else

by bun on Jun 23, 2007 7:03 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

a polished diagu
with more speed is a pretty damn good player.  diagu had glimpses of being a very good player but he just never really produced or worked out.

I didn't think much of davis until i saw the video of his highlights.  combine that with his weight loss and for some reason i think he could be pretty good.  im not saying take him with 18, but if we can get him later it could be nice.

He's at 276
I was at one of his workouts - he was exactly 276.

I think this guy is a second round steal, but I'm tired of trying to convince you guys :)

I like him...
he would be great off the bench for about 10-15 minutes a night to grab boards and plug up the lanes

Pree
I don't think anyone is denying that he would be steal in the second round, it's not exactly going out on a limb to say that, especially if he has dropped 20 pounds; I mean he was a lock for the lottery last year.  I would I would have definitely liked him over Project O'Brien.
