Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Rod Beck dead at 38

I know this is the wrong sport and all but it seems like most GSoMers are form the Bay Area so I thought I'd share this bad news...http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=txbeckobit&prov=st&type=lgns.

Some of us here are Giants fans too and as a fan, I am saddened to hear of this unfortunate event. Do you have any memories of Beck?

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

I grew up with the walrus closing giants games and he was great.  just a good 'ole boy and a fan favorite.  Even though rob nen was a great closer for the giants, rod beck was always my favorite

Rod Beck
I'm watching the Giants game right now and Kruk and Kuip announced it. I was shocked. He was so great for the Giants. I remember how awesome it was to watch his games.

We miss you Rod! Go Giants (and Warriors)!!!!

Wow
Total shock.

I'm a Giants and a Red Sox fan, so it's doubly painful. He was like a fixture of my summer days from the mid-90s to the early 00s.

Also (revealing some personal info for the GSoM crew) I'm 39, so anyone getting taken at 38 just seems totally unfair, and makes me feel old.

Anyway, rest in peace, Shooter. Giants' win today over the Yankees is obviously for you.

RIP Shooter
Giants nation will miss you. I was a bit young for this, but my dad always tells me about the time where he was pitching against Bill Murray with the bases loaded and one out, and got him to hit into a double play. He won the division that year for us. Here's hoping he's out there somewhere, enjoying a nice cold one. RIP Shooter.

I remember that game. . . .
I think it was Eddie Murray though.  I don't recall Bill Murray, unless we're talking about Caddyshack.

oops!
Yeah, you're right. It was Eddie Murray.

Man I loved Rod Beck
How fun was it to watch him close games. So fiery and fierce, great split finger. He had great mound presence and one of those closers you didnt mind watch blowing a save because he was such a competitor. GREAT CLOSER. TERRIBLE NEWS. My prayers go out to his family
