Rod Benson > POB???

Warriors invite Benson to Camp after an impressive year in the NBDL???

Star-divide

Was cruisin the internet and came across Rod Bensons blog, he talks about his recent minicamp with the Dubs. Looks like Benson made an impression on Nellie and could possibly be a cheaper option to sub for biedrins off the bench... If not, his blogs are hilarious and his videos are funny.

Dude is funny...
From Rod's blog
After the workouts, I heard second of the two the greatest things I've ever heard.  Don Nelson walks up to me (already awesome because I'm pretty much starstruck by a man with so much basketball clout) and says: "Rod, I really enjoyed watching you play.  You're in pretty good shape, huh?"  I didn't really know how to respond.  It was like those T.V. shows where a hot girl approaches the guy who has been eyeing her but is clearly not on her level, then the guy stumbles over his words and looks stupid.  I said back: "I mean, umm yea, I could be better."  Then Don Nelson replies: "Well, you're in better shape than these guys.  You run the floor really well."  I stood there kind of awkwardly as he walked away.  I was so giddy that I couldn't really put myself together -- I might as well have just been propositioned by Jessica Biel.

hell yes
I hope they give Rod a crack at playing on the summer league team. I liked his game at CAL and would be interested to see him running in nellies offense. Could be interesting.

Funny guy but
there's no way he is better than POB.  POB gets a bad rep for going to the D-League and not "dominating," but he averaged 12/10/3 blocks while there, even though he struggled mightily at first.  Benson, on the other hand, averaged 10/6.3/1 while there.  pOB just needs better stamina to run the court or wait until next year when Nellie is gone.

Not so fast
Benson averaged close to 11 and 9 in 23 minutes off the bench when he switched teams (he wasnt getting minutes for austin) while O'Bryant started and played 30 minutes a game.

How can a guy
who couldn't get off the bench for a D-League team help us out?

He got off the bench...
...long enough to play exceptionally well in the closing minutes of the NBDL championship game's overtime. If I remember right, he hit an elbow jumper and blocked a shot very late in the clock. I could be misremembering, though. In any case, Benson should be given a look. He's long (6'10), he's fast, he has a worthwhile shot, and he'll be cheap. He's also from the area, played college ball at Berkeley.

I don't think comparing him to O'Bryant pound for pound is worthwhile. The fact is, our roster has already been designed to be a running, athletic team, and Patrick doesn't really fit in, especially with Biedrins pretty firmly and deservedly tagged "starting center."

For instance, what if I suggested that we pick up a journeyman forward who's barely cracked an NBA lineup, and that he might outplay a former #3 pick overall? Well, I think Matt Barnes is certainly a better player than Dunleavy, as well as a better fit. Azuibuike, too, more deserving of his position to make this team despite starting in the NBDL. There are always hungry young guys fighting to make a team, guys who are talented and can help you. That's why a guy like Mark Madsen is so inexplicable. You think Rod Benson wouldn't contribute more than Mark Madsen? I already know from that video that he's a better dancer.

Dude Benson has legs
I think the appeal is that Benson can get up and down the floor and is quiker than a majority of the guys his size. I just think he could get some run on one of our summer games see how he works running the floor with Monta, Azabooyow and crew. I think the best part of having him on the bench would definetly be having his take Sarunas' place as cheerleader.
Everytime Baron crosses somone up he could say to Piertrus:  "Boom got dem, Dos!"
