Brevin Knight Waived!

Apparently, the Charlotte Bobcats have just waived their backup PG Brevin Knight. http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/46802/20070629/bobcats_waive_brevin_knight/
Since we have more money after the Jason Richardson trade and since we have not solved our backup PG problem in the draft, we should consider signing Brevin Knight. He does have injury problems, but when he's healthy, he's pretty good. Not long ago, in 04-05 he averaged 9 assists a game! There's been some talk about signing Earl Boykins, but I think that Brevin Knight would be better. And to put the cherry on top, he's from Stanford.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

interesting...
i loved brevin back in college...he was the first bball player i ever met in person and he was coo

i don't know what his health is like, but if we could scoop him up for cheap and dump cabbages it could be a nice move.

Brevin Knight WAIVED
...as in WAIVED... by the BOBCATS. If you can't hang around as a backup PG there, you probably belong in Greece. That he's a Stanford product is exactly why we shouldn't sign him. Not sure if Boykins is the answer, but I think Mully can do better than Knight...

C'mon man.
Brevin Knight can play. We wasn't waived by the Bobcats were better than him, he was waived because they had a jam at the PG position. Raymond felton is much younger so they let him go.

Brevin Knight sounds like a great pick-up. I'd take him over boykins.

You'll be back.

jam at PG
other than Felton who do they have??

by triplesix on Jun 29, 2007 12:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Well
That's two starting point guards on that team but they also have

Jeff Mcinnis - a solid backup
Matt Carrol - Able to play both Guard positions
Derek Anderson - Good veteran player.

You'll be back.

Maybe
Brevin Knight was waived because Charlotte with all their cap room is pursuing Chauncey Billups as a free agent. Then, they wouldn't need Knight, Felton, and Billups all as PGs. Wow, Billups, Jrich, Gerald Wallace, Okafor would be my second favorite team.
The J-RICH show is on his way out...=(

if they get billups
that will be my second favorite team.  Now the Dubs have to contend against two Warriors of the East in Antwan and Agent Zero and JRich and Higgy...

Brevin Knight
Would be a good and cheap choice in the FA market. He's smart. He came from Stanford. Brevin had an okay career as a backup for many teams and should incorporate that in our Warriors.

GET Gerald wallace
itd be a good pickup. he can rebound, block shots, run, he's an all around player

by gswfan88 on Jun 29, 2007 12:33 PM PDT reply actions

G Wallace is
Dope.  I remember watching him growing up wit Sac cause when the Dubs werent makin the playoffs I kept my eye on Sac.  I thought if they Dubs could pick this dude up some how wit Gilbert and JRich we would have the sickest young squad.  I still wouldn't mind the Dubs taking him now.

by RubberDubDubs on Jun 29, 2007 2:38 PM PDT up reply actions

I think
Charlotte might want to hang on to Gerald Wallace.

Why Brevin is not the answer
He's not the most athletic guy out there--I just can't see him making it up and down the floor with the Dubs night in and night out, even in limited minutes. And remember: Nelson is all about exploiting matchups. He countered Dallas' size with speed, then when Dallas tried to keep up with a small, quick lineup of their own, the Warriors backcourt was way too big and strong for Terry, Harris to handle. Brevin Knight is neither big nor fast. He's a smart player who doesn't make many mistakes--he'll catch on somewhere (Lakers?) I just don't see it being with Nellie. And after the whole Montgomery thing, I think Mullin is a little wary of anything even remotely related to Stanford...

I like
Gerald Wallace too but if we end up spending as much on him as we were paying J-Rich then I don't see the point in trading him to begin with. People always talk about how Gerald Wallace fills up a stat sheet, but I'm a little suspicious. Nothing's easier than putting up stats for a shitty team.

You mean like JRich did?
Gerald Wallace > Jason Richardson, imo.

by Sleepy Freud on Jun 29, 2007 4:58 PM PDT up reply actions

You're right. G Wallace
is a lot like Jason Richardson in that respect--maybe even better because he doesn't have all the injury question marks--but it seems like they're going to have to pay top dollar to get a guy like Wallace (that is, as you put it "> Richardson") so I don't see how it makes any sense from a salary standpoint. But maybe they were just really that  high on Wright, and knew that they could easily replace J-Rich for around the same dollar amount while helping the team overall. I don't know. I like Wallace, too, but I'll be interested to see what kind of offers he commands in weeks to follow.

How about Steve Francis
I heard he's going to be bought out by the Blazers. Although I don't know how he would mesh with the current squad or if he would want to play in a backup role.

Knight
Knight had a team option for 4million something.  He wasn't worth that to them, so they waived him.  If they want him at a lower price, they can negotiate with him.

We have two things to offer him: the MLE or a vet minimum. [The "savings" we got still don't get us under the cap to sign someone and the traded player exception cannot be used to sign a free agent.]  He's not worth more than the vet minimum at this point, but he's a reasonable backup at that price.

Steve Francis
will hopefully move on to a career making those "And1 Mixtapes" after all this--that's what he's best at. Even Isiah gave up on him--where do you go from there? The Bakersfield Jam (alongside Notorious POB)? Europe? Wherever JR Rider's been the last few years? Good riddance...

pass on Knight
He's no better than Sarunas at this point. He was really hurt alot last year, and he's undersized even for a PG, and he has no offense.

Dee brown
could we sign Dee Brown? hes not that good but he hurt us in the playoffs. and hes cheap and young

by T Baggey on Jun 29, 2007 6:46 PM PDT reply actions

Dee Brown
would be an interesting pickup. Not your classic point guard but with the ubiquitous "motor", "hustle", "guts", "character", etc. that you want from a backup PG. I would love having that guy on my team as a cheap alternative to a Boykins, Earl Watson, whatever. He'd fit in well with the current roster, I think...
