Is it true that W's never worked out Wright?

Is anyone else concerned by this? How can you ship out one of your most popular guys if you didn't do all your homework on a college kid? Unless it's a temporary stay til the next trade.

As much as I think Brandan Wright fits, it just doesn't make sense that they never worked him out, especially since Mullin said they had him ranked over Yi.

also...
if he was ranked as high as 3rd overall, why did he slip to 8.  And another thing... if the warriors would have traded J Rich for Joakim Noah i would have slapped mullin

noah
Noah would have been ready much sooner and therefore fit the timeline. His ceiling isn't nearly as high, but we'd be a better team next year.

He slipped because:

  • Al Horford measured well and Atlanta didn't need another project
  • Memphis went with a PG, need over upside
  • Boston was stupid

You're a nut
But that's exactly the team I want. Maybe we throw in next year's #1 to make it work.

Change the names of the backup PFs to

"Better-than-Diogu" Powell
"Block-Machine" Lasme

and we're 11 for 11 on the Killah Bs...

No Workout?
I don't think that Wright 'worked out' for anyone; teams interviewed him and measured him and all that combine-type stuff, but his representatives didn't want him working out/scrimmaging for anyone. I caught some ESPN field report leading up to the draft as they followed the Florida boys to their workout with the Celitcs, and Wright was also there, hanging out on the sidelines explaining his situation.

Brandan Wright
In my eyes, he wasn't the third best prospect in the draft. I'd say a top 10 prospect. I would pick him second behind Al Horford. Al is more of a NBA-ready player, while Brandan still has some skills to master. If I were to assign a number to Brandan, I would definitely tab him as the 5th best prospect behind Conley and Horford. Conley is the best PG in the draft, which I would rank him No. 4. Since Horford is a proven champion in the college ranks and fits the body of a true PF in the NBA, he gets my vote as the 3rd best prospect. Yi is undoubtedly the best international prospect. I'd make him a very close 6th best overall prospect in the draft because of his skill set for his position and supposed age. Anyways, Wright was a steal for the Bobcats to take at No. 8, since the Bucks could have taken him with that pick. If that's true about the Warriors not working out Wright, then I really feel it could be a potential trade for another player. Then again, I really like having Wright on our team. Once he bulks up and develops more skills, the league will have to watch out.

your nuts
if you think that Conley is a better prospect than Wright. Memphis will be kicking themselves for years.

Let me clarify
All I'm saying is that Conley was the better prospect for the fact that he had more success than Wright in the postseason. It's obvious that both players are developing, while Conley looks slightly more NBA-ready. It's really tough to find a good big man in the league these days. I'm certainly hoping that Brandan Wright pans out to be a better prospect than he was projected. Mike Conley Jr. proved to everyone he can hold his own despite playing under the shadow of Greg Oden in OSU. Memphis had glaring holes in the PG and C positions. They believed he was the best available pick at No. 4. I say that Pau Gasol is more of a combo SF/PF, not a C. The Grizzlies really have no true center, if you think about it. They have too many PGs, but a lot of them are either unproven or injured. Conley was the logical choice for that. I guess Brandan Wright's body swayed them away because they felt he was too lanky. But I'm gonna agree with you on this one by saying Brandan Wright's gonna be a steal. It'll hopefully remind us since that '95 Draft when KG first came out. He was a very lanky player. Until he played a couple of seasons, KG's the man.

it's not nuts at all
The draft is an inexact science, and I'm pretty sure most experts had Conley over Wright anyways

No one knows for sure
The Dubs kept a tight lid on the players they worked out and didn't work out. It is possible that they didn't work him out at all, but there were a lot of shadow workouts this year where a bunch of teams got together to watch a guy and stuff like that because there was less time than in years past. There's no way to know for sure .. until Mullin says so.

No one knows for sure
pree,

is it true that they had wright ranked over yi all along? or was it an excuse after they couldn't get yi? what do your sources tell you?

the trade didn't seem that strange. the comments from mullin and staff afterwards just don't add up. but then again, no one predicted belinelli either.

by warriordean on Jul 1, 2007 4:05 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Wright over Yi
In the organization, everyone expected the Warriors to make a move to get Yi because they realized the business potential and felt he'd be a better fit. The Warriors never thought they'd have a shot at Wright because they had him ranked in the top 4 (some say top 3, but whatever). The Warriors wanted to get into the 5-8 range for Yi, but couldn't make things work with Boston (Ray Allen), Milwaukee (they weren't going to pass on Yi), and Minny (didn't want to give it up).

I guess technically this means that Warriors rated Wright higher than Yi because they didn't even feel like they could get Wright. When he slipped, the Warriors pounced.

What, what, what???
This team sucks dude.  No wonder the Dubs have sucked for so long.  People think this would be a good line up in the NBA Western Confrence?  Wow?! We would get run out of the gym so hard!
