Mikki Moore to the Kings!!

the kings have just agreed on a contract for mikki more.

http://sacramentokingsblog.blogspot.com/2007/07/this-just-in-kings-and-mikki-moore.html

"We're really excited to come to an agreement with Mikki Moore," Kings President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie said. "He brings athleticism, length, skill and experience to our team and we're looking forward to watching him play fro the Kings."

Let's hope they overpaid!
You gotta love a guy who hustles like Moore, but last season's performance from him was probably just an outlier. In the larger scheme of things this probably doesn't affect the Warriors that much at all.

Full MLE
They gave him, I believe, 3-years, $18-million. Sets the price for Joe Smith .. maybe even for Chris Mihm.

This is only of the Warriors concern if teams now realize there isn't much out there for the MLE, so they just toss it out there.

wow
That's alot of money for a bench player. They already have Brad Miller and Spencer Hawes manning the C position, and Shareef and Kenny Thomas making big money to play PF. The kings have a madly expensive frontcourt, with only one piece as part of their "future" (Hawes).

Maybe this signals a Miller trade upcoming)?

The only rumors I've seen that are really heating up lately are Bibby rumors.

He'll start for them ..
This should most likely end the Bibby/Gooden conversations. I think Theus is going to find a way to get Bibby and Artest to play nice. Moore is too skinny to play center and will likely be their starting PF and third center behind Miller and Hawes .. and when Miller gets hurt again, he'll slide over to be the center with someone else starting at the 4.

Bibby / Douby / Shakur
Martin / Garcia
Artest / Salmons
Moore / SAR / Thomas / Williams
Miller / Hawes

In all honesty, I like this move a lot for the Kings - they added depth in the paint thus far this offseason with Hawes and gave themselves a versatile big guy and insurance for their draft pick with Moore. Petrie knows what the hell he's doing and has a good track record with using the MLE. Did they overpay? Yea, but there was no other way for them to get better.

Salmons and Martin are underrated and very solid and their big men are good enough for now.

They just really need a ball-handling guard. Bibby and Artest are really the only guys on the team that can handle the ball well - they'll need one more. I don't know how they'll go about getting. If they DO move Bibby, it'll be for two rotation-worthy guards. Not sure anyone in the league can offer that right now. Maybe they'll package Bibby with SAR or Thomas for some backcourt help. Cleveland is probably out of the question now if that is the case - anyone out there with too many guards and hoping to do a four-for-two kind of deal? I'm looking at you, Isiah ....

Still not a playoff team, but they'll be in the mix if they make another move. They have the pieces to possibly do something else.

Market has been set for Joe Smith ..

They just really need a ball-handling guard.
How about sending them Cabbages and Barnes for ron-ron?

Demand for PG's?
The only teams left I can see that need a PG are Miami and Milwaulkee, and both are pursuing Mo Williams. Perhaps the loser pursues Bibby?

Miami can do Jason William's expiring + Dorell Wright. Sac won't be good next year, but J-Wil's return might be a bit of a salve for the fans, and Wright has some decent potential to be a rotation swingman.

They really need to do something about that front court glut: 'Reef, Thomas, and Miller are all making big bucks to be old and redundant.

Yea, Bibby + SAR
The deal will likely be Bibby and SAR because Thomas makes too much and does too little. If the contract lengths weren't the same, I'm sure Kings would try to move Thomas instead, but alas, it won't happen.

A deal with Miami makes sense for both squads. Another thing to look at is a team with a glut of young PGs willing to move them for Bibby. Like .. I don't know .. Houston? They have four, I believe. Seattle is expected to sign Dowdell to a guaranteed deal - maybe they move Ridnour and Watson for Bibby since they're looking for an experienced scorer? Bibby then would be backed up by Delonte West and Dowdell, which actually isn't that bad. Seattle then relies on Wally, Wilkins, and some kid at the 2.

Just thinking out loud.

yeah
It's fun to do it for other teams.

If Miami takes Shareef, Sac is gonna have to eat a contract in return, because I don't think they can make the money work without, say, Udonis Haslem...which honestly doesn't make too much since because they'd still have a glut of bigs.

Probably not Seattle, since they don't plan on contending the next couple years.

Ooh, i just realized Boston might make some sense.

Ratliff (expiring), Green, and Scalabrine (filler) for Shareef and one of Bibby/Miller would help Boston fill their needs at PG/C and frontcourt depth. Sac gets rebuilding package of cap space and youth.

Without Adelman and Vlade
Sac's once-celebrated offense has gone to shit in a hurry--they're like an Eastern Conference team almost. Bibby's still got some gas left in the tank, but he's got Ron "Where Possessions Go to Die" Artest starting on his team, effectively negating whatever good he might be able to do--but with options like 'Reef and Miller, you have to wonder exactly how much "good" that would be anyhow. Kevin Martin is nice, but nothing to build a team around. Mikki Moore? Ouch. I'm actually feeling sorry for Sacramento right now, and I've been a diehard Warriors fan for twenty years...

GOOD
I was starting to gag w/ the thought that we would pick-up this lanky, crack-head looking player!  Let the KANGS over-pay him!  In a sort of bad/good way, the list of free-agents is starting to dwindle so the W's won't have too much to choose from, but that means we can dictate the price for their services!
