James Posey to the Warriors?
it seems that mullin had a "good meeting" with posey on friday in vegas.
Warriors meet with Posey: Vice president Chris Mullin and special assistant Mitch Richmond had a "good meeting" with free-agent forward James Posey in Las Vegas on Friday, according to Mark Bartelstein, Posey's agent. Bartelstein said the Warriors were among several teams, including Dallas and Washington, to express interest in his client and that talks were ongoing.http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/07/15/WARRIORS.TMP
a "good meeting" probably means that something is holding Posey back into coming to the bay. im thinking they're trying to work out a s/t Pietrus for Posey, and resign barnes with the MLE.

Pietrus
To be honest, if noone signs Pietrus and we can get him cheap, do it. He was a major factor in more than a few of the games this season, including a couple in the playoffs. Maybe he can get better, but I doubt it. If he can't learn from one of the best coaches in NBA history, then maybe another player can.
He was a major factor
Yeah, He does what he does best pretty well, dogging the perimeter, corner threes, and ocassional backdoor slams. I'm more comfortable with Mikey than Posey (what kinda name is that for a baller anyway?) I'm hoping the Warriors and Pietrus can agree on a fair number that both can live with so we can keep him.

good news
Thought: is this real interest, or phantom interest to use as leverage against Barnes?
Either way, we don't need BOTH of them
Look at the depth chart:
PG: Baron, Sarunas
SG: Ellis, Belinelli, Buike
SF: Jackson
PF: Harrington, Wright, Powell, Lasme
C: Biedrins, Foyle, POB, Kosta
That's 14 guys (15 is the limit).
SF is a glaring spot, but it's really one spot.
I figure POB, Kosta, Lasme get sent down to D-league. That, or buyout Foyle for a roster spot

Mulling a deal with Warriors?
First, a quick disclaimer: Wander around Cox Pavilion at the Las Vegas Summer League long enough and you'll see Danny Ainge chatting up just about every NBA general manager. But an interesting pairing that might mean something: Ainge and Golden State Warriors executive VP of basketball operations Chris Mullin standing in a corner partially obscured by the stands. Could Ainge and Mullin have been talking about Warriors guard Sarunas Jasikevicius? Almost as soon as Jasikevicius arrived in a mid-January trade with Al Harrington, Stephen Jackson, and Josh Powell, the Warriors have been hoping to find a new home for the Lithuanian, who starred with Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv before joining the NBA. Jasikevicius was coveted by none other than Larry Bird, which could peak the interest of Ainge as he looks for a veteran point guard.

still
I assume that whoever we sign between Barnes/Posey will also spend time at PF in some situations, and among Ellis, Belinelli, Azubiuke, and Jackson, the 2/3 spots are well-stocked.
It's tough for me to see minutes for both Barnes and Posey.
There's a financial aspect of it as well...do you want to add two contracts that would likely total to MLE? Using half of it or whatever might not hurt too much, but using all of it starts getting in the way of our flexibility.
I'm not saying it would be bad to have both, but in terms of roster space, minutes, and money, it would be more of a luxury we can't afford.

I think it makes sense signing him for depth at the SF which we need barnes or not.

Lasme not guaranteed?
Pree
Tony aka Drawlz600 is AWESOME!!!!
not too big a problem
Last year, Barnes and Roberson made the team out of training camp, but if you google it, you'll see that there was still quite a bit of debate going through camp about them, especially Barnes.
And it appears that neither were on the summer league team at all.
http://www.nba.com/warriors/news/2006_Summer_League_Roster.html
Which suggests that the non-rosters may be people we've not even seen yet.
Barnes > Posey
Someone mentioned that this could just be leverage for signing Matt Barnes to a smaller contract, since we know that he wants to come back.
In my opinion, we should just resign Barnes soon since he's probably the best SF left for us and sooner or later he might get swept up by another team..
actually
history
ultimately i think i'd rather go with posey. I think he has the ability to get up and down the court with us.
bottom line
