olympicmike's Monday round-up
Well it's been a little bit of a slow week around here and without all of the ridiculous diaries to complain about and bad trade suggestions to bash (thank you Option Zero) there is not a whole lot going on. I thought that for fun I might do a little round-up on some of the hot topics here on GSoM and give you my take on them or any updates that I can find. Hopefully this will stimulate some new conversation on some old topics and maybe even a little fun.
I have my horse beating stick in hand and I can't even bring myself to swing it. Is it August 6th yet?
MP Sign and Trade
Pree came through with some inside info on this one a few days ago. Looks like the most likely scenario is with the Heat involving MP (and Sarunas or other?) for JWill. After thinkng about this deal for a few days I like it more and more. If the Ws management and coaching staff still think that they can teach Monta to run the Point then this seems like the move to make. Jason Williams has an expiring contract so it would be a rent-a-player type of trade. This would get us a servicable back-up PG for one year without any long term financial repercusions and give Monta the time he needs to either prove himself as the PG of the future or uhh...prove otherwise.
When I look at the other options like Boykins or Brevin Knight I get a little worried about making a long term commitment to these guys. Statistically the three options are pretty similar without much standing out. They basicly show what youd expect; Boykins is a chucker, Knight better at running an offense, JWill an aging less spectacular version of the player we remember with the Kings (less spectacular is a good thing). Given the options I like renting JWill for a year.
As far as updates go it seems that the Heat may be interested in Rafer Alston of the Rockets, and this seems to support the idea that JWill is available and may be headed out in a deal to fill the whole at SF.
Warriors Depth at Center
This is an issue that has been concerning me lately. Commish brought it up in a comment recently and I found myself surprised that this is not being talked about more. As it stands we are depending on either AL spending a lot of time moving over to Center when AB sits to rest or because of foul trouble (Andris in foul trouble? Nahh) or an immediate contribution from Brandan Wright. I'm not sure how comfortable I am with either of these scenarios. I'm looking forward to seeing Wright get minutes but from what I read (admitadly I have not seen much of him) he will most likely not make an impact this year. Signing Powell would help but we can't count on that until he is signed. Who will rebound on this team besides Beidrins?
Pete Wilson Dead
I know that this is completely off topic but I found myself surprisingly upset at the loss of this Bay Area personality. He of course was a staple as a TV news anchor and could be heard daily on KGO 810. This got me thinking about how we can build these strong bonds with people we never even meet and come to think of them almost as friends. I couldn't even begin to guess how many hours I've spent listening to Gary Radnich or Ralph & Tom and I thought that we might take a minute to talk about the Bay Area personalities we conect with the most. Best wishes to the Wilson family.
So here are my questions to you, mighty GSoM community:
Given another year to progress do think that Monta will ever become a PG?
How long do you think it will take for Brandan Wright to contribute?
Will Powell, if signed, provide meaningful minutes at Center/PF?
Who is your Fav Bay Area personality and why? (radio or TV)
I appologize in advance for all the spelling and grammar, I am doing this at work and it was pretty busy today. lol.
