Monta accepts invitation for Team USA pactice squad

Heres the link (second to last paragraph):

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=2951274&name=sheridan_chris&campaign=rss&a mp;source=NBAHeadlines

Does this mean Monta has the possibility of making Team USA if he does well/really well? The team could use a really quick gaurd for defense/steals from what ive seen of the roster. I dont know about you guys but im actually excited to see how Team USA does this year. The scrimmage they had a few days ago was pretty awesome.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Do good now and be considered for 2012 Olympics.

was about to post this....
i think it's cool for a couple reasons...one, its a good basketball experience to play with some serious young guns (al jef., ai 2.0, devin harris) against some of the best in the league....secondly, i could imagine all of the guys on the practice squad (d.lee included) becoming members of the nat'l team down the stretch and i would love to see one of our guys (and one of my favorites) play for our country....lastly, it's cool that ellis is taking his vacation days and playing to help th team, which i think is respectable....also, i'd absoultley love to watch those two teams scrimage each other all week....would be fun, good luck young buck, peace, dan

Monta
This again is for those who belittle Monta both in stature and talent and want to trade him for almost anybody. Remember, he was voted MIP and won even by a slim margin not by his popularity among the Warrior fans but by the basketball world because of his talents and accomplishments at his sophomore year in the league and only 21 at that. Now this!

Wishful thinking: What if he will be selected by Colangelo, the chance of four Warriors competing each other in the international level must be exciting; Biedrins for Latvia, Bellinelli for Italy and Jasikevicius for Lithuania and Monta for the USA.

belittle him b/c he hasn't proven hardly anything
The only thing he's proven to the world is that he can score.  He hasn't proven to the coaches or other players that he can play solid man to man defense or handle the point guard position.  He won most improved player for his ppg increase from the previous season.  His performance in the post season was sub par to say the least.  When he played the point spot once and while to let Baron get a breather, he struggled to get the plays setup and even make simple passes.  The game that sticks out in my mind is the one against Denver when Iverson made him look just ridiculous on both ends.  Getting deflections on all his passes and breaking him down on the other end.

Just as Keith Smart said in his interview w/ the KNBR people, although he got Most Improved player last year, he still doesn't know how to play the game yet.

bro...
he's 21 years old, at least give him till 23 to match him against the greatest little man since zeke (AI)...ya'll just expect so much so fast from him, remember he was a second round pick, so there are holes in his game, but he'll figure it out....peace, dan

Werd
Its funny how people forget that he's only 21.  LOL... Not Including career ending/threatening injury, IT's rare that NBA players skills top off after only 2 years in the league.  Hell even scrubs become less scrubbish given a few years in the league.  Its not that far fetched to think Monta can learn how to be more efficient at the point.

i'm always confused
of how age functions as the yardstick for judging potential or ceiling. While i agree for the most part that at 21, people have hardly peaked (my bball game peaked at 24/25 as i dominated leisurely, no-D ball at a local gym), but if Monta was a college senior @ 21, people would consider him pretty limited (not to say that that is true). if monta went to college, would we think his game is stunted? are people prejudice against college seniors who are of similar age? what is the cut off point for potential??? or are scouts evaluating talent on other things besides age (i.e. bball knowledge, wing span, athleticism...).

This should put an end to the conspiracy theory...
...that we held out Brandan Wright from summer league because he has already been traded to the Wolves in a package for KG.  If that was the case, why would we allow Ellis (a key piece of the package) to risk injury here??

I will personally like to see Monta to play with/against some real stars and gain valuable experience.  I think the Wolves are asking too much, and would prefer to see Monta and Beidrins in Golden State for years to come.

Can we really stop him from playing though?
And from a "hype" perspective, the fact that he's already being considered a future All-Star must subtly add some value to his stock.  I didn't hear about any Randy Foye invites...so who knows? Maybe this is making it all the juicier for Minny (providing less backlash from their fans if they feel they're getting a future All-Star/Dream Teamer).

just thinking out loud here
Maybe a deal for KG is in place and Biedrins is included. They would then need a replacement for Biedrins(Gooden). Also, maybe Mullin thought he couldnt give away all 3(Wright,AB,Monta) and decided the only way he could get a superstar big is to give away two of his young ones(AB,BW). And if Monta was a key piece to a KG deal, why would they let him play with the US Team if he is at risk of getting injured. And why so quick to sign Kosta????back-up for KG maybe??? Also, the #1 priority this offseason is to get a proven rebounder/defender(Wright, Kosta, lasme wont help us)

Psh
He won't play. Period. I'm not going to bother to explain why.

Not in 2012, either.

Tony aka Drawlz600 is AWESOME!!!!

Awww shucks
I'm sure Foyle will play someday....maybe even in 2012.

Wait...that's who you're talking about, right?

No, Monta....
He simply doesn't have talent at that level.

Okay.
You aren't going to explain why because you have literally no reasoning to back up your blatant hate.

HE WON'T BOTHER EXPLAINING WHY.
I thought he made that perfectly clear. ;-P

'Splainin' is for suckers. It's so much easier just to talk out your ass while trying to sound authoritative.

No, moreso
because you guys are waaaay to overhyped to listen to anything I have to say about your "god", Monta Ellis. It's useless trying to explain why a bench player should not play for Team USA. Sigh....

dont think so
Usa already have deron, jason, chauncy and kirk playing point, Kobe, mike, michael and others i forgot playing shoot guard spot. imo i dont think he will play.
Off topic did anyone watch team usa scrimage on fsn a few days ago Kidd and James, highlight reel every play.

by StephenO4 on Jul 27, 2007 10:11 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Monta
will play in 2012, he was only invited to the PRACTICE SQUAD. He's an up and coming talent that Colangelo wanted to bring up and start grooming for future olympic teams. Most of the current Team USA will probably not even be at the 2012 olympics because they're getting up their in age. Anyone who doesn't think Monta will make the 2012 squad is a fool.
