Puttin' some mustard on Seattle. P.J. to be new coach.

Retread in Seattle.

The Seattle SuperSonics have scheduled a Thursday news conference amid reports that the team has hired P.J. Carlesimo as its new coach.

Team officials refused to comment Tuesday on a report that first appeared on the San Antonio Express-News Web site, which said Carlesimo had been chosen by Sonics ownership.

Good god. I really am not looking forward to hearing his grating voice on the sidelines. This is something that can not and will not work. He can never have the respect of an NBA locker room.

Does he deserve a second chance? My initial reaction is yes, it's not his fault he got choked. But my second reaction is that he should have known what he was dealing with in Spree and that his lack of respect for his star player shows that he was unaware of the sociology of the NBA despite coaching in Portland prior to that.

I'm sure he's learned and I'm sure he's mellowed, but he's always going to be kind of a joke based on what happened to him. We'll see . . .

P.J. to be new coach
Who's gonna choke him this time? Vegas offering odds?

I'd say
Robert Swift. The kid won't play for the years Carlesimo is the Sonics' coach. LOL :P

Surprised the Sonics hired him
PJ had poor people skills and was never a good NBA coach. Another one of those college coaches who couldn't cut it in the NBA. I say he lasts 2 years if not less with Seattle.

He was successful in Portland
In fact he was one of the exceptions to the "college coaches can't succeed in the NBA" rule until he ran into the coach killer known as the Post/Pre Nellie Golden State Warriors. He made the playoffs all 3 years with the Blazers. I think that was pre-Sheed or when he first got there.

Regardless, for the stuff I mentioned above, he's doomed.

Maybe
he'll end up getting choked out by his star player who will happen to be Kevin Durant. He'll demand a trade, the Warriors will snatch him up and justice will be served. Well, one can dream, atleast he'll probably mess up that team beyond recognition so it'll be one less team we have to contend with in the west.

Free Starbucks?
If a Sonics player chokes Carlesimo, he will have to owe the entire KeyArena a tall frappuccino...LOL

Now
all the Sonics have to do is sign Latrell Sprewell! He should sign for less now, because he still has to feed his family.
The J-RICH show is on his way out...=(

I applaud this descision
And I hope he does well. One of the few coaches who still plays big men.
Tony aka Drawlz600 is AWESOME!!!!

Since Seattle is lacking in big men....
perhaps he'll take foyle off our hands then...

Technically speaking
Seattle has 3 centers: Mouhamed Saer Sene, Robert Swift, and Johan Petro. Their other bigmen include Chris Wilcox, Nick Collison, Andre Brown, and Danny Fortson (LOL). Should they want Adonal Foyle, expect at least 3 or 4 of these guys to either sign elsewhere or get waived. But you are certainly right on the fact that they lack unproven bigmen. All of these guys are projects with the exception of Chris Wilcox and maybe Danny Fortson (LOL). With some tweaks in the roster made by the GM, Seattle should be at best a poorman's San Antonio without the championships and playoff experience. Expect the starting five of Luke Ridnour, Kevin Durant, Wally Szczerbiak, Chris Wilcox, and Johan Petro for this season. They really shouldn't be too much of a threat for us, since I believe they'll only improve from next season and not make the playoffs. They're a young team with a new coach and many financial problems.
