Potential uses of the 10 million trade exception

The 10 million exception is a dilemma. One of the biggest advantages of sending JRich packing was the cap space created. That space can be the key to resigning Monta and/or Biedrins next summer.

Star-divide

Another use for the exception would be to use it to add another key piece. In this situation, the major downside is that such a trade takes the cap space which trading JRich created. So the new player(s) would make resigning monta and/or Biedrins impossible.

The one way we could eat our cake and have it too would be to trade for another piece, but make it someone with only one year left. Such a trade would allow us to win now, while still having the option of resigning Biedrins and Monta.

Players who fit the exception and have one year left include Maggette, Arenas (assuming he opts out, which seems likely), and Kwame Brown...

Any trade for those people would probably take some combination of Wright, future picks, POB, etc.

If the goal is to win now, but keep Monta and Biedrins, we need a one-year rental.

PJ Brown
fits that category.  Wouldn't he be a good tutor for Wright?  He has one year left on his contract with the Bulls and has just become a restricted free agent.  The question is: would he take the 9 mil he is scheduled to make with the Bulls just to play with the Warriors for one season or would he look for a longer term deal with another team?  I'm not sure if the Bulls are going to make him an offer or if already have.  9 mil is a lot for his age and skills at this point in his career.

I'm fairly sure
that PJ Brown's contract is already up and he's an unrestricted free agent. RealGM and Hoopshype both concur.

you're right
I misread the stat sheet from last year with the Bulls.  But my point is still valid--would he take a one year contract with the Warriors to play PF and help develop Wright?  After that, we still have the $$ to extend AB and Monta.
