Grant Hill headed to PHX

This is not Warrior news at all, but i just wanted to share that my Favorite Player ever in the NBA is headed to the Phoenix Suns. I can't wait to be able to see him play against the Warriors 4 times a year. I remember when he was at his superstar peak i saw him dominate a game against the warriors at the Arena in Oakland. However when he headed east to the Magic i tried in vain to see him for 3 years, each time he had a DNP or played less than 20 minutes. Needless to say i was disappointed. Hopefully i 'll see him at least once this year. Anyway here's the story:

Free agent forward Grant Hill has agreed to sign with the Phoenix Suns for a one-year, $1.2 million dollar contract.

Hill spent the past seven years with the Orlando Magic . He endured numerous injuries during his tenure with the Magic and never re-gained the all-NBA status he possessed earlier in his career with the Detroit Pistons .

This past season, he averaged 14.4 points per game and helped lead the young Magic to their first playoff berth in four years.

Thanks for posting this
I actually think this improves the Suns more than people think. HIll's still money. All they really need him to do is be healthy for the playoffs.

Also, don't forget RealGM didn't come up with this news item although they like to disguise it as they did. It's Florida Today.

i believe
Hill chose PHX over all the other teams courting him because he could have an actual impact and play key minutes for PHX, such as cracking the starting lineup. Atleast that's what most PHX fans seem to think.

I think this really adds to the Suns' depth and could vault them into the Finals because of their starters logging less minutes. Having Diaw and Barbosa and Kurt Thomas off the bench could be the key to a deep playoff run.

Suns Enigma
On one hand they get veterans at a substantial discount like Jalen Rose and now Grant Hill.

But they draft like the SF Giants (not very well)!

They coulda had Splitter and/or Rudy Fernandez making zero money stashed away overseas; they coulda had Rondo or Marcus Williams backin up nash instead of Marcus Banks. Man, how could would they have been then?

With Hill, they finally have a legit swingman to backup Bell and Marion so they dont need to use Barbosa as an undersized 2 anymore...Hill also has the PG skills to flourish in their open system.

Freakin' Phoenix.

don't
forget, didn't they btrade the rights of Luol Deng to the Chicago Bulls? I'm not 100% sure but i think it was them.

Grant Hill
This makes me a little bit disappointed.  Now I know Grant Hill isn't what he used to be and I know he's 36 now.  But I never read anything about the Warriors trying to pursue him.

At $1.2mil, he is an absolute steal.  He still produces stats that could land him a starting job somewhere, he's no dud.  He could've brought veteran leadership, good decision making, and good shot selection to our team off of the bench at quite a discount.  Besides Baron, at the end of the game, there's nobody on this team that I would yet trust to handle the ball and make smart basketball decisions.  Not Monta yet, certainly not SJax or Barnes or Harrington.

And what's worse he signed with our uptempo Western Conference counterpart.  It's like our brother cashed in on a big sale and we didn't even make the trip to the store.

Now if it's a fact that Grant Hill didn't even consider signing with the Warriors, that's another thing which scares me.  If Grant Hill isn't even willing to sign with the Warriors for a short-term contract, would someone like Kevin Garnett or Gerald Wallace even want to sign with us?

That's a good steal.
Id take Hill over Pietrus anyday and Hill is so much cheaper. I got to congratulate Phoenix for luring Hill into there team for so cheap. Good job PHX, and I wish all the luck to Hill.

Grant Hill
Let's hope for Grant Hill's sake that he actually gets to play significant minutes in Phoenix. They got Jalen Rose and he barely played due to Mike D'Antoni's style of logging his starters' minutes too much. Essentially, the Suns need to improve on utilizing their bench. They usually play 6 or 7 players at the most. Seems to me that Coach D'Antoni wants to keep his starters as long as he wants. I believe this is what plagued D'Antoni all those years in the playoffs. He just needs to rely on some more of his bench unit guys instead of just letting his starters log nearly 48 min. a game. Grant Hill should be the 7th man off the bench, unless he can convince D'Antoni he's healthy enough to start at the SF spot. Here's a potential starting five just in case the KG talks die down in Phoenix: Steve Nash at PG, Raja Bell at SG, Grant Hill at SF, Shawn Marion at PF, and Amare Stoudemire at C. Phoenix so far is the team to beat in the Pacific. We're just a couple of injuries and players short of being the Pacific's best.

The
Dubs were never in the running for Hill. He wanted to go to a legit contender right now. I believe he was swaying between the Spurs, Mavs, Suns, Magic and the Pistons. He basically signed for the minimum a vet can sign for just for the chance at a ring.

agree
he's just going for the ring, he doesn't have much left, besides he got lots of money from his last contract

ghill
wouldn't come cheap to us.  a matter of fact he wouldn't come to us at all, because we aren't a contender he just wants a ring.  pullin a jalen rose

This is
not a surprise at all.  Grant Hill, when he's healthy, can contribute and play significant minutes.  I read he agreed to the bi-annual exception instead of the veteran minimum though.

And yes, Phoenix did trade the draft rights for Luol Deng to Chicago so the draft pick would not have eat into the salary cap so they could sign.....who else.....Steve Nash.
