Who does Marco Belinelli remind you of?

Who does Marco Belinelli remind you of?
Instead of a poll, I'll throw out some names.

Manu Ginobli - crafty Euro game, good ball handler
Mike Miller - quick release, makes it look easy
Brent Barry - shooter, ball handler
Rex Chapman - quick release, off balance shots
Allan Houston - shooter
Drazen Petrovic - crafty Euro, deadly shooter

First I thought, a hybrid Ginobli/Chapman

But after much thought, my choice:

Drazen Petrovic

Kobe Bryant
Yeah I said it.  No he isn't on Kobe's level, but how quickly he rises up and naturally fades away is alot like Kobe's jumpshot.

Italy connection maybe?

by jlagace on Jul 8, 2007 5:17 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I think so too
For some reason, he reminds me a lot of Kobe when he makes those shots over people.

It's like he can straight up sh*t on his defenders and keep making three's.

The shots are kind of different though. Kobe basically throws his shot and it goes in real fast. Belinelli puts a lot of arc in his shot making the ball slowly move gracefully in the air before it swishes the net. lol.

by Five Ten Entertainment on Jul 8, 2007 11:31 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I said that earlier...
He reminds me of a Euro version of Kobe. He has named Bryant as one of his favorite players. It is already evident that he has modeled certain aspects of his game after him. (pump fakes, triple threat fakes, pull up fadeaways)

A: Michael Jordan.
On a side note: it's strange how the "Belinelli>Oden/Durant"-line of joking from the gamethread has taken a turn for the serious in the last few diaries. Dudes, it's one summer league game. What happens if in the next game Marco goes 3-14 and POB puts up 20/10? I'm as excited as the next guy, but a little perspective seems in order.

Im sorry Sleep but your wrong. Some day youll swallow those words. You shouldnt put O'Blivious and Belinelli's name in the same sentence. You might call it perspective, but I call it skills, heart, destiny, and alot of God-given talent.

lmao. okay sir. you're right. putting up 37 in a summer league game means he's the NBA's next best star.

Seriously. This is ridiculous.

Didnt say that either sleep
Im saying based on his accomplishments SO FAR..(Scoring 25 in 28 mins against US's best, Excelling in tough competition like Euroleague, Snatching the attention of Mullin, Nelson, Making a very strong debut against NBA competion) ALL these things are consistent signs that point to him some day being a star. That said, I loathe upon hearing his and O'Bryants name in the same sentence.

Thats what Im saying...sir.

its actually proof that I misread who sent the comment, sleep. No need to act like a bitch now, calling people names on the internet. Only girls do shit like that, or maybe you are a female, Im not certain...either way, BOTH OF YOU misunderstood what I meant about Belinelli.

Uh no, cowboy
Ranting to posters about things they never said is evidence that you're at least a little bit hysterical. Further evidence is your unwillingness to see contrary facts (for example, Beli's mediocre last season in Europe), to say nothing your repeated descriptions of graphic, sadistic fantasies involving Mark Cuban, who presumably has never done anything to hurt you. Dissing him for fun is one thing; you take it to a whole another level.

All I said is that a little perspective was in order. It wasn't directed at you in particular. Given that we're talking about one summer league game, and that no one here was calling Beli a sure all-star beforehand, this a pretty reasonable statement. You tell me I'm "wrong" (wrong that perspective is a good thing?) and that I'll "swallow [my] words." Then you proceed with your fantasy ranting.

But thanks for coming clean with your psychological issues. At least I now know to take your thoughts on this board. Your early posts seemed to contain some promise of intelligence and hoops acumen. Now I see these as glimmers in an abyss of misogyny, illogic, and hysterical fanboyism.

Really, I should have suspected: your "Full Metal Jacket" sig-line pretty much announces you as the Private Pyle of GSoM. I mean, feel free talk all the crazy BS you want -- it can actually be entertaining, if you're in the mood for it. Just stay far away from firearms and Mark Cuban, and don't expect anyone to take you very seriously.

Note:
To anyone tempted to jump in here on anyone's behalf, this "battle" was resolved, peacefully, in another thread.

(Yeah, that means put away the nunchuks, Coma. Or at least save them for "Bullogna"...)

I also have concluded that...
I do not want to hurt Mark Cuban, I like homo-sexuals, I will not hype Belinell(as much), and I will stick to topics that include only discussion about the bettering of my beloved franchise.

No One
He doesn't remind me of no one really. We've only seen highlights and the first summer league game which he torched the Hornets for 37, I'm waiting for the Season games and seeing how much he avg's. because he's going to want playing time and so is Ellis, so both of those guys are gonna be bringin their A game every night if they want a real spot in Nellies "7 or 8 man line-up".

Belinelli... Mullin version 2.0
Belinelli's game is very similar to Chris Mullin... that's why he drafted him.

Don Nelson liked that Chris Mullin guy.
You know who else likes Chris Mullin...
Chris Mullin.

Write it down.

Super sniper with a crafty offensive repertiore.

Bellinelli is Mullin Version 2.0
This version can dunk a little bit.
Thats why he's not version 1.1... isn't it obvious.

That's whats up with it!

I wouldn't say nothing
they can both shoot... there is always that if nothing else

At 6'6 I see Nellie tempted to go nuts with the smallball... Baron at PG  Monta at SG Marco at SF on occasion

The real question is will he play well enough to crack the rotation soon enough and get the minutes and stats to compete for ROY...

Belinelli ROY 08... HYPE, HYPE, HYPE, HYPE, HYPE,HYPE, HYPE, HYPE, HYPE, HYPE,HYPE, HYPE, HYPE, HYPE, HYPE
Get it going... HYPE IT UP!!!

alot of you guys are a little short with your comments... I want to know how is he nothing like.

Cuz I see four ways he is like Mullin... even though there are probable twenty ways he isn't.

1)Shooting
2)Crafty scoring ability (making it look easy)
3)The 3 spot (CM 2-3-4, MB 1-2-3)in Nellieball
4)Excellent at facilatating the offense... their games speed Nellieball up a notch by knowing how to score (he will not keep other from getting points)

Just give me a little more... I know I'm wrong and you're right...  But Why?

That's whats up with it!

by nightballa2412 on Jul 8, 2007 12:47 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

alright
Ok...I guess I'll expand a little more on why I think hes not like Mullin, for what its worth.
  1. Mullin was slow, Belinelli is fast.
  2. Mullin was stiff, Mechanical. Marco is fluid, looser.
  3. Mullin squared up on his shot usually landing the same spot he jumped. Belinelli shoots off balance.
  4. Mullin wasnt exactly a high riser. Belinelli particularly likes the 2-hand 360 wind-up dunk on the fastbreak.
  5. Mullin was stronger, Belinelli is weaker.
  6. Belinelli is a flashy finisher. Mullin was a fundamental finisher.
  7. They handle the ball diferently.
  8. Mully was a lefty.
  9. Mullin did not explode on the drive, used knowledge, spacing, skill to gain seperation and oppertunities. Belinelli relies more on instinct and athleticsm.
Similarities

1. Both can shoot
2.?
3.??
4.help me

By the way Miah2412, I wrote a diary for you. Check it out.

maybe not though
Maybe what I should say is that the role GM Mullin see's Belinelli playing is the same role he played on the Run TMC edition of the Warriors.

They can both shot the lights out though!
Thats one thing they definately have in common.

steve kerr was just a spot up shooter

pistol pete had better handles than marco

kobe? no

mullin was much slower.

Manu doesn't shoot as well as Marco.
I hear alot of people say Brent Barry, but I really don't see it. Maybe I'm missing something.

Mullin v.2.0 runs faster and jumps higher!
I have to stick with the Mullin comparison...
his atleticism seperates a good deal him from Mullin though.

The other facets of their game are similar

Marco can get up a little bit.

Marco Belinelli = Chris Mullin Version 2.0
the version with hops!!!

not mullin
Mullin could never play PG.
Maybe his feel for the game and his shooting might draw comparisons. But when I watch Beli play, I never once thought Mullin.

by warriordean on Jul 8, 2007 12:13 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

YOU WIN!!! CONGRATULATIONS
Mullin not playing PG is true... he wasn't fast enough or had the handle to do that.

Good point... YOU WIN!!!

warriordean, you are so awesome it is unbelievable... I crumble under your imposing presence and superb knowledge

I believe the score is 3-2.

When you tell your children about this conversation... tell them it wasn't even close.

IT WAS A BLOODBATH AND ALL I ASK FOR IS YOUR MERCY

but seriously... good point.  I might take a step back on the comparison for now.

At least until Nelly starts him at the 3

No comparisons... Mix a buch together
You would probably have to mix a bunch of players together to find a good comparison with Belinelli.

He has Mullin's shooting, Ginobili's crafty driving ability. Some good verticl too. It also looks like his defensive fundamentals are solid (he wasn't getting blown by or lit up).

It's only been one game. BOgans scored 38 in 04 and he hasn't turned into anything to make a great note about (under 10 pts a game at the backside of the rotation). He looks really good nonetheless

You can jump on the ROY bandwagon with me... it's lonely right now

That's whats up with it!

miah2412
miah2412, I did not mean to attack you. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

This is just a discussion on a sports board. I was simply stating that I disagreed with you.

I think he reminds me of Drazen Petrovic. If everyone disagreed w/ me, I wouldn't have a fit.

This isn't a battle, just a discussion.

Athletecism makes me look like a fool
Everyone is saying that my Mullin comparison is not a good one because Mullin was "Way slower".

I've been made to look the fool because you couldn't dunk either Mr Mullin.

Anyway Mullin was fast enough to keep up with the breakneck speed of run TMC and be the leading scorer of the bunch on several occasions. That he could take the A-1 athletes of the NBA one-on-one and blow by them is a given.

He was an extremely skilled offensive player... crafty... and one of the best shooters in the game.

I should say that Mullin definately see's Belinelli playing the same role on this Warriors team as he player with Run TMC

They are both crafty... they can both shoot
Belinelli is a better athlete... that's true

aside from that I think it's a fair comparison

That's whats up with it!

not brent barry
brent barry was a mix of AK47's athleticism with great handles, court vision and a J. marco, though he may have a more productive career, is not brent barry.

when belinelli drives to his right and pulls up for the J, squaring his shoulderes and kicking out his legs, he reminds me of Jordan or Kobe.

enough with the Mullin
You're basically turning into a spammer with this Marco is Mullin stuff.

Marco's herky-jerk moves remind me of Ginobli, they even have the same behind the back dribble to beat guys off the dribble. As far as his gunnery, there's a little bit of Jon Barry in there, the fearless shooting with hands in the face, pulling up on the break recklessly.

So there.

Ginobli's body and movements with Brent Barry hops and Jon Barry shooting.

Nice work... you've figured me out

I watched the game and initially I said
"I haven't seen a Warrior shoot like this since Mullin"

I might have taken it a bit far... but why not.

Thanks, English major
I find your extensive knowledge of the English language most awarding, thank you. For now on, I'll be sure to go back and do spellcheck and all that good stuff for ya.

ANYWAYS, your the first person I have seen to make this comparison. I was hoping for a lot more insight in the comparison rather than an English lesson. Frankly, I don't see any similarities in their styles, skills, and movement at all, other than the simple fact that they love to shoot the basketball, and more importantly, can shoot the basketball. But maybe there was something I missed. Can you fill me in Jae?

Ray Allen?
not to compare body movements or shooting mechanics but in basketball IQ and shot selection...

by RubberDubDubs on Jul 9, 2007 3:54 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bits n pieces
I see his game having pieces of Kobe, Allen, and Ginobili.

Kobe-His assortment of pumpfakes, 2 dribble pull up fade-aways, deep fading 3's are reminiscent of Kobe's rookie-Soph days. He has some nice trademark dunks on the fastbreak that remind me of a Kobe Bryant. His cat-quick first step is similiar.

Allen-His ability to shoot with stellar accuracy dribbling left, right, back, forwards, speaks to me like Allen's game speaks..They both have some of the quickest releases in the NBA. He always has his head up, and like Ray, has a mindset to use dribble fakes and body feints to give him just those few more inches of space needed to pull up for a quick J.

Ginobili-His flashy mindset in the open court, his ability to thread passes on the drive, his ability to switch hands in mid air, finish with left or right hand, looks to dump off to his big men in air.. his motion, all reminds me of Manu.

This is my team There are many like it But this one is mine. My team, without me is useless. Without my team, I am useless

Sloppy turnovers?
Ill give you the shot selection...but noone of those passes looked particularly sloppy.  He had one lazy entry pass were he kind of soft tossed it out there for a pick, but other than that his turnovers were all high diffuculty high velocity passes that someone got a hand up on.  I admit he may have been trying to be to flashy on a couple, but Im pleased with how crisp and creative his passes are.  Nothing I saw that could warrant being called sloppy.  I was actually very impressed...he showed some ability I didnt think he had.

He doesn't really take it to the hole well but he is elusive with his dribble and can create his own perimeter shot.

From the first summer league game, he looks like a Manu without the driving game.

by dso on Jul 8, 2007 10:33 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I think that the Reggie/Rip comparisons
are pretty apt--somebody with a wicked quick release and good range who just annoys the shit out of opponents by finding ways to get open shots around screens, etc. He's got a similar frame to those two (maybe even a little brawnier, actually) and is wicked quick. I'll reserve judgment on his "range and creativity" until I see him playing against guys who are actually on NBA rosters, but so far so good...

by WhatWouldTerryCummingsDo on Jul 9, 2007 2:32 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

No to rip
the reason why is because rip always leans into his jumpers whereas belinelli always fades back. belinelli has far more range as well.
