Poll: Do You Want to Trade Monta??
I have decided to make this poll in regard to Sleepy Freud's response to OptionZero in the thread
"History: Ellis High-School Stats ! (pretty amazing)". How many Gsomers are open to trading Monta? Personally, I am a "Hell No! KG Is Nice but It's Monta!" guy myself, but I am sure that there will be a variety of responses. Come out to the polls and let your voice be heard. Vote or Die!!

Merging this diary and jayknocc's, since both insist on making an issue out of this:
Originally posted by jayknocc:

While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Anybody is tradeable
I like Monta
to be nice and clarify however, it would have to be for either a draft pick that was a SURE THING (like a Lebron, but no one trades those anyhow), another rising star (Chris Paul, Iguodala type which again...would never happen), or an All-Star that still has juice left (like an AK, although i do think that Monta is too high a price to pay). So basically, i see very little reason to trade him unless we land an impact player in return.

Did I miss something?
"History: Ellis High-School Stats ! (pretty amazing)"
??? What happened now...
.
what happened
the high school stat diary had a comment by JimBarnett2KevinGarnett, something along the lines of:
"yeah everyone wants to trade ellis"
to which i replied:
"people want to trade for garnett"
trading ellis is only half the equation, to say OMG don't do it or OMG do it is pretty lazy. Give a specific player and then we can do some real analysis, otherwise its' just a battle over nothing
Questions? Complaints?

Ok
On the topic I guess I'm with most people here in that I would trade him for the right guy (right in my opinion...lol). I definitely don't think anyone here is saying we should get rid of the guy for no reason, like he's a problem that needs to be dumped. I actually like JAE's post below. I tend to be too sentimental when it comes to evaluating talent. I wish I could be a little more "moneyball" if you will.

Everyone is an asset
Besides how many 6'3" Shooting Gaurds are in the Hall of Fame?
High School stats aren't the best, he could have played in a crappy conference, heck at 6' he could have been the tallest guy in the league and played pont forward. 36ppg is legit but how many powerhouse high schools are there in Mississippi and how many great players did he play against? You don't know...Look at Melo, I saw him in High School tourneys out here in Portland and Oden they were studs, but they played top competiton and dropped about 25ppg. Ellis was good, but was he that good?

I would
I see Ellis as a physically talented undersized SG, who will never have the touch to play PG. He is good offensively, decent defensively. He'll get better, but I don't think the sky's the limit for him. More of a good complimentary player than a star.

Trade value.
However, the NBA market for labor doesn't always see this and there's a tendency to value and reward one skill over all others: scoring points. Contracts covary with scoring average more than anything else, though scoring average in a vacuum doesn't covary with wins that well. There are 20+ppg guards one bad teams. There are fewer double-double centers on bad teams.
So if there's a sucker who overvalues the fact that Monta is very likely to be that 20ppg player (and they are valuable, just not as valuable as many think and less valuable if they can't rebound and turn the ball over too much), then you make a deal for an above average interior player since you get more bang for your buck that way.
Monta's fun to watch on the court and I think him to be rather helpful, so trading him would hurt, but if he's 'untouchable' then management has already screwed everything up.
We want a 1st round pick
Monta, baby
