Poll: Do You Want to Trade Monta??

I have decided to make this poll in regard to Sleepy Freud's response to OptionZero in the thread
"History: Ellis High-School Stats ! (pretty amazing)".  How many Gsomers are open to trading Monta?  Personally, I am a "Hell No!  KG Is Nice but It's Monta!" guy myself, but I am sure that there will be a variety of responses.   Come out to the polls and let your voice be heard.  Vote or Die!!

[Moderator's Note, by OptionZero:]

Merging this diary and jayknocc's, since both insist on making an issue out of this:

Originally posted by jayknocc:

he put up 38.4 points, 6.8 assists, 7.9 rebounds and 4.5 steals per game, while shooting 80.0% on free-throws, 46.0% on field goals and 48.0% on three-pointers. that's pretty crazy ! 40 points pergame ain't no joke ! he was also named Parade Magazine Top Player Of The Year along with this years number one pick, Greg Oden !

I like Monta
but if there's someone i like better....then i'd be ok trading him. easy logic huh?

to be nice and clarify however, it would have to be for either a draft pick that was a SURE THING (like a Lebron, but no one trades those anyhow), another rising star (Chris Paul, Iguodala type which again...would never happen), or an All-Star that still has juice left (like an AK, although i do think that Monta is too high a price to pay). So basically, i see very little reason to trade him unless we land an impact player in return.

KNBR 680
Will interview Keith Smart at 2:00 today and already interviewed Robert Rowell.  Robert gave the usually high level briefings, but added some insights into Nellie/Monta/Beans/Kosta and deals they were making that fit the Warriors style of play.

i'd
only trade him with some others for a bonafide star, like kg or if we there was a shot in hell of getting lebron. (but that will never happen). but you get the idea.

Results so far...
  • Want to trade Monta (i.e. would trade him for a draft pick or a useful player): 2 votes
  • Would trade Monta only for a bona fide superstar or not at all: 52 votes
So, JB2KG, I think it's fair to say your assertion that most of GSoM wants to trade Monta is, um, incorrect.

by Sleepy Freud on Aug 2, 2007 11:54 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

ya..kinda surprising
i wonder if the results would be different pre KG trade knowing that KG was still a possibility.

Did I miss something?

??? What happened now...

what happened
As you see in the main diary above, the poll itself was one post and the bit about Ellis' high school stats were another

the high school stat diary had a comment by JimBarnett2KevinGarnett, something along the lines of:

"yeah everyone wants to trade ellis"

to which i replied:

"people want to trade for garnett"

trading ellis is only half the equation, to say OMG don't do it or OMG do it is pretty lazy. Give a specific player and then we can do some real analysis, otherwise its' just a battle over nothing

Questions? Complaints?

Ok
I get it now. Thanks for catching me up.

On the topic I guess I'm with most people here in that I would trade him for the right guy (right in my opinion...lol). I definitely don't think anyone here is saying we should get rid of the guy for no reason, like he's a problem that needs to be dumped. I actually like JAE's post below. I tend to be too sentimental when it comes to evaluating talent. I wish I could be a little more "moneyball" if you will.

well
i know what hes talking about cuz people were also saying trade ellis for AK-47, trade him for josh smith, trade him for J Oneal, trade him for yi.  it did feel like some people were hatin on monta cuz of his playoffs and forgetting how good he was in the season and how good of a scorer he can be.

by Proof on Aug 3, 2007 1:15 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I want AK as much as anyone
but I still wouldn't trade Ellis for him, JO, or Yi.  I would strongly consider Josh Smith simply because he's a BEAST and he's still very young.

Everyone is an asset
Anyone is tradeable, look and the departed one!!!

Besides how many 6'3" Shooting Gaurds are in the Hall of Fame?

High School stats aren't the best, he could have played in a crappy conference, heck at 6' he could have been the tallest guy in the league and played pont forward. 36ppg is legit but how many powerhouse high schools are there in Mississippi and how many great players did he play against? You don't know...Look at Melo, I saw him in High School tourneys out here in Portland and Oden they were studs, but they played top competiton and dropped about 25ppg. Ellis was good, but was he that good?

Monta
I don't necessarily want to trade Monta but I'd be open to it.

No way, Jose
Ever since KG got traded to Boston, I do not wanna trade Monta Ellis anymore. Let's just re-sign Matt Barnes and move on. Monta and Andris very deservingly need those contract extensions.

OT: How About..
Adonal Foyle for Leon Powe ???? i have no clue if the cap reasons work out so can someone tell me??? i wasn't gonna post this in a new diary because it might get deleted so here it is.. Foyle for HomeTown Kid Anyone???

by jayknocc14 on Aug 2, 2007 3:37 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Boston
Can't afford to pay Adonal now.  Especially for what he can do for them.  They need to spend wisely. And keeping Powe would make more sense for them.

I would
definitely trade Monte for the right price.  Which is the way that Mullin probably looks at it.  Biedrins is more of an untouchable.  For instance, Biedrins probably gets his extension announced in October.  I think Mullin will have Ellis play through the year and see what happens.

I see Ellis as a physically talented undersized SG, who will never have the touch to play PG.  He is good offensively, decent defensively.  He'll get better, but I don't think the sky's the limit for him.  More of a good complimentary player than a star.

When we still had J-Rich
I would have been open to a trade. Now that we don't have him, I don't want to let Monta go. I wanna see if he can develope into an all-star. If he works on his handles & passing, I believe that he can.

by Bake Da Ripper on Aug 2, 2007 3:43 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Trade value.
Monta and Biedrins have the most value in a trade.  Biedrins would be more difficult to replace since big men who can tie own shoes don't come along that often.  If you have a competent big man, it's harder to get someone else to do what he does.  A competent, even pretty good off guard's duties can be more easily replaced or redistributed.  In this sense, Biedrins is much, much, much more valuable.

However, the NBA market for labor doesn't always see this and there's a tendency to value and reward one skill over all others: scoring points.  Contracts covary with scoring average more than anything else, though scoring average in a vacuum doesn't covary with wins that well. There are 20+ppg guards one bad teams.  There are fewer double-double centers on bad teams.

So if there's a sucker who overvalues the fact that Monta is very likely to be that 20ppg player (and they are valuable, just not as valuable as many think and less valuable if they can't rebound and turn the ball over too much), then you make a deal for an above average interior player since you get more bang for your buck that way.

Monta's fun to watch on the court and I think him to be rather helpful, so trading him would hurt, but if he's 'untouchable' then management has already screwed everything up.

We want a 1st round pick
Monta for one of the T-Wolves 1st pick. Make it happen. Or trade Harrington too for Al Jefferson. I be happier with one of these trade happening.

Monta, baby
I already wrote about this, but I gotta reiterate support for my boy. It's all about Bugeyes.
