Pure Speculation: Boris Diaw

maybe trade for him? i'll start with the minuses:

  1. huge drop off from two years ago
  2. 9 mil a year
  3. Doesn't really address our most pressing need (backup pg, imo), while probably requiring Monta Ellis to make the trade
  4. If he plays 4, will take playing time away from Wright.
  5. overweight last year compared to the year before
But as for the pluses...
  1. HUGELY versatile player; played the 4 and the 5 last season
  2. He cannot coexist, or so it seems, with Amare Stoudamire, so he probably wants out
  3. Averaged 7+ rebounds, 6+ assists two years ago... would look great as a 4 for us
  4. GREAT court vision. a trio of stephen jackson, baron davis and Diaw would make a really fun, great passing team.
wut do you guys think? with our TPE and with his playing situation, (as well as the Suns' well documented desire to shed salary), it's not impossible. his value is pretty low right now so we could probably get him easily. and for all the players we have available at the 4, none of them are proven, and diaw could help with that.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Well
first off, we couldn't trade him for Ellis because the salaries aren't even close, it would have to be for TPE. Second, what would we do with Al Harrington? Keeping Harrington, AB and adding Diaw would be a waste of money on the Dubs part because Diaw and Harrington both have big contracts and one would be riding the bench, not a good move when you consider what we need and what we already have. Third, Diaw just signed a big contract and taking on his contract would almost certainly mean one of either AB or Ellis would be gone, that's not even taking into account the BD contract situation. Fourth, I highly doubt the Suns would trade anybody on their team to a divisional rival, it's just something you see rarely done, people trading players within their own division.

Oh
and 5th, signing Diaw will take minutes away from Wright for years to come, we sent J Rich off for this kid, we need to see what he can do.

don't forget
we got rid of jrich primarily to save money

You forgot a big minus:
He plays for Phoenix, a division rival. Phoenix would want salary relief if we grabbed him, and probably talent or picks in return, since he's still a quality player.

I don't know if we can fit a $9M player and also send whatever it would take to PHX to convince them to help another Pacific division team.

It's the same problem with Marion pipedreams.

Questions? Complaints?

not quite the same
Seattle isn't in the Pacific division, and they aren't even thinking playoffs

I WOULD
be all for getting Boris for say...al harrington and a resigned MP. but i doubt suns take it. They'd want the TPE and a youngin'. would you be willing to give up Belinelli for Diaw?

The biggest problem I have with this Diaw
talk is that it would be silly to think that the suns would have anything to do with making the dubs better.  Their division rivals.  Maybe if we knocked their socks off, which, by looking at the dubs assests and the suns needs, isn't gonna happen.

Sure he'd be an excellent addition, but we'd be dreaming if we think we'd ever see diaw in sportin' a dubs uniform.

Isn't there someone in the east that we could dream about havin'?

Diaw
He has proven that he is more than capable of excelling in our style, but I question his mental toughness (for lack of a better term). He seems to have a hard time staying motivated. He was basically a no show in Atl and now that he has landed his big contract I don't see the same energy, fire, passion, whatever you want to call it. Having said that I can think of a few scenarios where I would be thrilled to get him, the only problem is I don't think any of these are very realistic.

Ask me this 2 months sooner
and I'd be more intrigued.  I think a starting 5 of Baron, JRich, Jackson, Diaw, and Biedrins could go places.  And even if they didn't, they sure would be fun to watch, especially with Monta coming off the bench.

Such a team is only good for dreaming about though because it'd never happen.
