Analysis: My View of the Offseason (So Far)

While every true fan wanted to get KG, myself included, it is time to move on and look at the bigger picture.

First, a few things about the KG trade: while the Warriors defenitly had the assests to make a trade for him, we have no idea what was actually offered by Mulson. For all we know, it could have have been a lowball, not the Ellis/Wright/Foyle/Jazzy/POB/1st Rounder many thought. Also, even if we had the best offer on the table (unlikely), Minnesota may have traded him to Boston anyways, due to them being in the East. Moving on...

For me personally, if the only further moves are adding Pietrus and/or Barnes and/or Posey, I would be completely satisfied. While Gerald Wallace or Darko may have seemed like a great signing now, would it be worth it if we did not keep Ellis or Beans? I don't think so. This brings me to my next point: Why all the hate for Ellis? Last season, for me, he was the most fun player to watch, in addition to often being the second best on the team. It was only his second year as well. I seriously doubt he was even come very close to reaching his ceiling. I find it ridiculous when people suggest trading him for a low 1st rounder, Yi, or Channing Frye. While I would have traded him in the Garnett deal, I would not give him away.

About Yi: I am soooooo happy we did not draft him. We do not need a perimiter-oriented big-man. While some have brushed it off, his summer league performance raised a red flag for me. If he cannot hold his own againest sub-NBA BENCH talent, how can he hold his own againest legitimate stars? I also do not like what he was done with demanding the trade. While I could get into a long explanation of it, a will make it short: the draft is meant to help the worst teams get the best players that they feel will help them improve. If the Bucks felt that Yi fufilled the criteria for them (supposedly he was #3 on their board), they should have every right to take him. Onto other things...

Davis/Ellis/Pierce
Ellis/Buike/Belinelli
Jackson/Pietrus
Harrington/Croshere/Wright
Biedrins/Foyle/Kosta

I think that will be the opening day roster, possibly with Barnes subbed for Pietrus, which I would like better due to more frontcourt depth. This a young, experienced, talented roster. Everyone but the rookies have no been to the playoffs, with Harrington and Jackson having either won championships or made multiple trips to the playoffs. While this is far from a championship team, it defenitly has the talent to make the playoffs, especially with the Clippers losing Brand, the Lakers seemingly self-destructing, and Nuggets losing Blake and Boykins (Signifigant?). The best thing, IMO, is that Biedrins, Monta, Wright, Buike, Beli, and Kosta are all young and talented. If next year they all have career years, it will be a problem. We still have the TE to possibly use to get a missing piece if we feel the need to.

Lastly, I want to talk about Buike. He is one of my favorite, perhaps my favorite, on the team. I would actually consider starting him at SG to bring Ellis off the bench. If I remember correctly (probably not) he had relatively similar numbers to Ellis when he got starter-like minutes in the period of injuries. Also in watching the summer league, he seemed much more confident and agressive on the boards. Plus, having an almost identicle body type to JRich cannot hurt. Nellie knows what he's talking about, and he thinks Buike is a lottery talent. Keep that in mind when you say the team has no SF depth.
