Kosta Coast

Its the offseason.  Everyone here is(should be) a diehard warriors fan=checking the site hella daily(aware of grammer--twice).  Here is more fodder for the downtime.

Star-divide

Our main boy, everyones favorite warrior, KOSTA PEROVIC has a feature on warriors.com

http://www.nba.com/warriors/news/KostaPerovicFeature_083107.html

thats the link. cool.

The article makes Kosta sound like a decent player, because it highlights all the hard work he is doing.  Plus, its real cool to hear all the rookies are working out together every day in The Town(my place of living, holler).

What role does everyone see Kosta playing for the Warriors?  This article makes him sound like a good big man with a lot of potential, but will their be room in the rotation for him?

Also, the other day on knbr, BOB FITZGERALD(he got it!) said Brandan Wright will be a rotation player.  How?  Is our big man depth that weak?  Or do you guys think that he can actually contribute in his first year?  I am skeptical because of his raw game, and lack of strength.

On to paragraph 400 and this is random but my head is whirring like Stephen Jacksons legal issues....KNBR sucks.  The Murph and Mac show is probably the worst show ive ever heard.  If I have to hear one more thing about Giants Baseball I am going to go nuts.  The team isnt good but they wont shut up about it.  Fitz and Brooks is good(they jock dubs basketball) and the razor and mr. t is funny because ralph sounds like a pitbull.  Also, Radnich blows.

go dubs

I
am actually a little excited about Perovic. Ive seen what the passing big man can do, Divac, Izzy... the trailing big man on the fast break who can make the extra pass, crisp and on the money to any of our gaurds or athletic swingmen...not to mention B. Wright. Im looking forward to some poetic, entertaining, beautifully played fast breaks for the upcoming year.

Also, I hate to play out this topic because its been addressed over and over...BUT Baron is the most effective gaurd in the paint in the NBA.

Think about it, a 7-2 center who can make the pass over virtually any defense in the league to our premier gaurd down low...and at the same time recycle the ball, lure shotblockers and knock down the open long range J is very intruiging.

Does anyone see where Im going with this?

This is my team There are many like it But this one is mine. My team, without me is useless. Without my team, I am useless

i completely see
what u are saying.  The Boom Dizzle is the man, and your point, hes hella good in the paint because the dude is huge.  I mean, I thought guards like Billups, Marbury were big, but the Boss is a freaking beast.  Even when hes slim hes huge.

Who do you think Kosta is comparable to?  Big Country?

by jrizzle on Sep 6, 2007 1:18 AM PDT reply actions

yeah
And can you imagine once Baron catches the ball and loses the first defender, he will draw in Biedrin's man and Andris will have some big wide open slams...

im not sure if big country is a good comparison cuz I dont think Kosta is as physical or aggressive as Reeves was, but I think hes got a lot more skill to his game. This might be a worse comparison, but think of Manute Bol II...not that his game is comparable to Manute's but he is an oversized body who can hit the outside shot...

This is my team There are many like it But this one is mine. My team, without me is useless. Without my team, I am useless

I guess that's what Nellie saw in him
IF kosta developes then he'll definitely become a Nellie-mismatch favorite: i'd love to see what happens when this team adds a big that can shoot from outside and pass....

Regarding the wright question:  This guy was chosen 8th in one of the deepest drafts of recent years.  Best player in a good bball conference and landed in a system that fits him like a glove.  I expect him to contribute pretty quickly even if he's raw and one of the youngest players in the league.

Good point Bing
There is a reason that Wright was drafted at 8 in a very deep draft. Hell, he was even projected at 3 on some boards. The guy is a straight up athlete, runs the floor, can pass, and is nasty around the rim. Nellie is the perfect coach for him, and the system will play into his talents. I see Wright being a contributor by the end of the first month if not before. As for his lack of weight? He'll adapt, all the good ones do.

exactly what i was thinking about
BWright.  why the hell wouldn't he be a rotation player.  we didn't draft another ike diagu

I
wouldn't be surprised if Kosta put up numbers this year comparable to what Foyle put up last year. By most accounts, he's not suppose to be very good at all, that's why many people thought his signing was a head scratcher. Some people also believe that because he has the same agent as AB that this was kind of a back door deal where we sign Kosta to a deal and we get a discount when we extend Biedrins, I'm not sure that's the case either though, but it's entirely plausible I suppose. I think that article on Warriors.com is nothing but something to try to hype this kid up a bit. I hope by mid-season I eat my words though and he ends up being a steal at 3 years/5 mil.

by J Rich 4 MVP on Sep 6, 2007 8:40 AM PDT reply actions

discount
I don't really understand the back-door deal.  How exactly is the agent going to convince Andris to sign for less because another client of his signed for more?  The agent may come out even in terms of his commission, but where's the incentive for Andris?  And inevitably, it's Andris who has to sign the contract.  Were I in his shoes and thought that my agent had somehow tried to leverage my future by promising I'd work at a discount to get more for another client, I'd fire that agent in a second, perhaps even going so far as to try to have him decertified.

Bill Duffy
Is purportedly friends with Chris Mullin. So who knows where that might lead.

Although I must admit I'm increasingly purturbed about how this will play out.

I'll try to find the link, but did you check out what he did to Demetrius Nichols (Knicks 2nd rounder)?

Apparently Duffy swung a deal with the Knicks to have Nichols play overseas...without telling Nichols. Needless to say, Nichols canned Duffy and hired a new agent (not sure if his contract is resolved yet).

ALSO:
I believe it was Draft Express that mentioned Perovic was offered a multiyear contract by a European team; the Warriors "panicked" because they thought they'd lose him, so they gave a deal and brought him over.

I don't buy this- the Warriors would retain rights even if Perovic plays elsewhere, right?

A far more reasonable basis for signing Perovic (to a low contract, i mean its like a mid-first rounder's K) is to bring in competition for POB and hope that one turns into a backup C worth talking about. It's a relatively low risk deal.

The more plausible reasoning
behind this possible agreement is that Duffy already did Mullin the favor: he held Andris out of pre-draft workouts to teams higher in the picking order. The guaranteed money to Kosta could actually be the reciprocated back-scratching, only three years later.

by ffgolden on Sep 6, 2007 9:20 AM PDT up reply actions

yes
that too

I
wasn't saying that's what I believed because it's not. I was saying that some people have floated that around on diaries here.

by J Rich 4 MVP on Sep 6, 2007 10:04 AM PDT up reply actions

yeah
I floated that idea originally. Even I think it's quite a stretch now.

Ffgolden's take makes more sense: Duffy helped Mullin then; Mullin helped Duffy now. Hopefully, Duffy helps us again, but I'm not holding my breath.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall of his office.

speculation
i think if any deal went down behind the scenes with the agent and mullin, it wouldn't by like they would underpay andris, its just that maybe the agent won't try to rob the organization for all the money they got to sign andris.

by Proof on Sep 6, 2007 3:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Remember too
that Mullin according to reports (HU) went to Europe twice to see the developments of Kosta. First, when Mullin went to China purportedly to scout on Yi during the CBA championship then proceeded to Europe to talk to Perovic. The second one was when Chris went to Rome in the European Summer Traning Camp to scout on Marco then proceeded to Belgrade for Perovic. So I think his signing is not an after thought on Mullin and the Warriors but part of the blue print for the coming season.

Consider too that Perovic withdrew from the Serbian National Team just to play with the Warrior and according to some reports he is even willing to pay for his buy-out so how can they say that the Warriors "panicked"? The guy just want to play in the NBA and with the Warriors at that.

Imagine too if he did not withdrew from the Serbs national team, with Milicic, Jaric, Erceg and Labovic, perhaps they are still competing in the EuroBasket.

RE: KNBR
Damon Bruce is the man.  He's the high point of the KNBR rotation in my opinion.  He's harsh but fair towards the Warriors.

I remember midway through the Warrior's season I turned on his show on my way home from a game to hear him say, "I've got a man-crush on a young latvian".  He says some funny shiz...

RACK IT UP!!! We believed. Playoffs '07. One Dub!
