Rumor: Warriors Still Flirting with Gary Payton

The Warriors already added a backup point guard to the roster in CJ Watson aka Quiet Storm aka KBLX aka 102.9 aka Mr. 100 after letting the DJ go to seek other gigs, but that doesn't necessarily mean the glove doesn't fit and they'll quit. Find out why after the jump!

Star-divide

From ESPN's Weekend Dime:

Golden State's decision to sign point guard CJ Watson to a 10-day contract this week and make him the 100th call-up in D-League history does not rule out the possibility of Gary Payton joining his hometown team in the season's second half, according to NBA front-office sources.

The Warriors are still flirting with the idea of bringing Payton in to ease the regular-season minutes burden on Baron Davis ... and you have to believe that GP, no matter what he has left at 39, would fit in personalitywise with Don Nelson's edgy crew.

Does the glove still fit?

99% of rumors never happen, but 99% of them are fun to talk about!

i hope this doesnt happen
Thatll take away minutes from CJ and i think he has alot of room to grow and blossom and I'd like to witness that happen asap.

still a non-story
because Payton's agent is trying to keep his client in the news doesn't mean he's in the dubs plans - he's been available a looooong time now and the dubs chose CJ Watson over bringing in the glove for a reason, probably several reasons

seriously, there's not much chance either pierce or payton make an appearance in oaktown

No thanks.
Gary Payton:

If they're that intrigued by his Bay Area roots and leadership abilities, make him an assistant coach. I'd much rather see KBLX get those 5-10 minutes a game.

GP on the coaching crew
That's a pretty smooth idea.  Just having him in the system for his leadership, chemistry, and possible mentoring ability could be a huge plus.
