Mbenga signed by Lakers

Los Angeles signed free-agent center DJ Mbenga to a 10-day contract Monday. The 7-footer from the Congo was released by Golden State on Jan. 6.

Wow thats pretty surprising. Mbenga plays exactly like Kwame... a nice defender who can't score. Maybe they signed Mbenga cause Laker fans hate Kwame. Here's me hopinh Mbenga does not become a warrior killer.

Also I think its funny that Bynum will be back mid to late March when the warriors will play them the final 2 times back to back. Hopefully Bynum won't be 100% cause he kills us both time we played.

exactly?
I'm not a Kwame Brown fan, but the difference between him and Mbenga is fairly substantial.  To say that Mbenga plays "exactly like Kwame" doesn't really fly with reality.  Kwame has been a better shooter and rebounder for almost all of his career.

yea
but thats only because Kwame gets a lot more playing time than Mbenga does. I think they both have the same scoring potential.

by saintdee on Jan 21, 2008 2:13 PM PST   0 recs

Nope.
Per minute, Kwame scores more.  He has shot a much higher percentage as well.  Kwame's better numbers are not merely a factor of more playing time.

They needed another body
Trevor Ariza broke a bone in his foot during practice, how long he will be out is not known at this time. I know Mbenga does not play the same position but it was getting to a point where they needed some active bodies for 5 on 5 practices and for the games.

wow
here i'll tell you straight up. i'm a warriors fan, cause i live in the bay. but i'm also a lakers fan, because i grew up watching them. as much as i am a fan of lakers, i am not a fan of kwame. i don't even know how mbenga plays, but i like him more than kwame. people at LA love kwame as much as people at new york love I.Thomas. okay, not exactly. but i'm watching mbenga right now and he's way more mobile than kwame.

I predict
Kwame will still get 10 times more boos than DJ. At least 10 times more.

I'm pretty sure Laker fans would rather see DJ on the floor than Kwame.

i guess
your a fan of slow players who commit too many fouls, can't run, and have no offensive skills. Mebenga had a good 3 minute run in one game and some Warriors treat him like a hidden gem. Unbelievable.

Mbenga
can hustle down the floor pretty well for a guy his size, he can defend the rim pretty decently, and he can get you some rebounds, but offensively, no matter how much you think you hate Kwame, he still has much more offensive talent than Mbenga. Without even looking at the stats you can tell, just by the way the move when they have the ball. If Mbenga had any offensive skills the warriors probably would have held on to him

Not a good move
Mbenga is a worst version of Kwame.  Line so far against the Spurs, 2 minutes, 0-1 FG, 2 turnovers.  And they were unforced, he just fumbled the ball.
