Raptors 1st pick of the 2006 Draft

do any of you ever wonder how painful it would have been if we were in the raptors position a couple years ago? we have the 1st pick in the draft, but all of a sudden hs players have to spend a year in college, so instead of having a front court of bosh and oden, you get one with andrea and bosh. i personally would be irate at this point, imagine what those two could do together. especially considering oden isnt the type of project that might not make it in the nba,and hence should take a year of college as a backup plan. the rules weren't made because of talents like him.

We already know Pain
We drated Ike Diogu, POB and can name a few more painful issues..At least Bargnani plays. One question. Why on gods green earth are we on a Warriors blog talking about the Toronto Raptors crap?

Raps
were the fifth worst team in the NBA. They should be happy they jumped up in the draft and got a solid NBA player in Bargnani. Sure, they missed out on Oden because of the rule and overlooked Alridge, they could have easily ended up with crap dudes like POB, Sene, or Shelden Williams.

Imagine
Picking Diogu over Bynum?
Dunleavy over Amare?
Foyle over McGrady?
Fuller over Kobe?
Joe Smith over Garnett?

Sorry, remind me again why we should feel bad for the Toronto freaking Raptors for having missed out on a guy who

  1. Has never played an NBA game
  2. Could easily be perennial glass jaw
  3. Wasn't even available for them to pick?
There really aren't enough letters after F to do justice to the level of failure this diary achieves. Z-minus-minus-minus-minus-minus...

It's easy
to look at the draft 10 years later.  Please stop complaining about crappy draft picks by referencing just ONE player who got drafted later.  That's like berating the Niners staff for not picking Tom Brady in the first round, or the second, or the third, or... you get my point.

I'm not defending draft decisions, but if you want to bash them, please reference the 5 or 6 players drafted just after them, not just one.  OMG!  Philly, Orlando, and the rest of the NBA drafted some crappy player instead of Gilbert Arenas!  Their GMs and draft gurus must suck!

preach, Dubs fan in Boston
GM's are looking to fill team needs in the draft. I know, you're thinking "duuuh", but looking back is to ignore what the team felt it needed and who could fill that need while still meshing with the rest of the existing roster at the time of the draft. It's very hard to predict that a certin player will blossom in the specific situation hes drafted into (unless the guys name is LeBron or MJ). If a team has a decent PG (phily had AI at the time of Arenas's selection) they aren't going to make drafting a PG a top priority, predicting that in 6 years he'll be a dominant outside scorer.

I'im italian
Andrea is a big player..offensively there's no 7 foot player in NBA that has his technique and his speed..his shot is very dangerous..but at toronto he doesn't play in his spot..he is a 4..and Mitchell have no scheme for him..he's limited at Pick'n'Pop and rarely Pick'n'roll with Josè..Now he is a starting centre, he is improving defensively, remember that in Italy he was a 3..give him time and he'll pay-off you..
Like Marco, certantly he's not Andrea's potential, but if Nelson gived him minutes and support sure he would be better of CJ or in a future of Buke..

Lemme ask:
Why are we talking Raptors again?

by B Randon on Jan 25, 2008 11:21 AM PST reply actions

I didn't read everything before me
so I don't know if this was pointed out but the Raptors had no dilemma. Oden already had said he was going to college for one year even before the rule was made, in a Sports Illustrated article on him.
