Lessons on Vinsanity

I hope the W's Do Not Follow

Star-divide

Watched most of the game last night.  Now just one game but saw Vinsanity 2007 version and I'm not impressed, especially given his max-contract, ($17.8M?).  He scored last night, and with some spectacular moves, but there was very little of what made him a phenomenon, the vertical lift, the explosion.  The effort on D?  Max effort on fouling, that's it.  Rebounding in traffic?  Nowhere, leaking out to cherry pick.  Vince just signed his max extension too, so the Nets are not going to have much flexibility for a while (unless they trade JKidd and get stud back).

I think this is exactly the scenario Mully wants to avoid with Baron; a broken down max player dragging down your franchise.  I'm not saying Baron's going to lose it like Carter.  I think he's proven up to now that if he dedicates himself, he's still got a few years of explosion left.

Your thoughts?

he had the talk with jerry west. he has been inspired so let's stop the talk about baron and all the money he is making on his contract. he knows what is important, unlike vince carter, ben gordon, tracy mcgrady, kobe bryant, gilbert arenas...just to name a few.
never forget...

VC and BD are different though
VC needs the quickness and explosion, as its vital to his game, while as to BD, when he gets older and loses a step, he can still be the veteran facilitating point. While BD does use his athleticism to his advantage, its not all that he has, while as to VC really needs his athleticism to dominate

baron will also retain his strength
he will out quick people less and less, but he will continue to out muscle people, and his jumper should continue to get better, im not too worried about baron.

Young Vince is gone...
Poor Vince.  8 years ago he had some major hop's.  Now he is just your average 31 year old(physically) with poor knee's due to years of abuse.  Mother nature has taken over poor Vince.  He is now much more crafty and makes shots that are straight out of the "old mans" book with all the scoops, left handed kisses off the rim, up and unders and set shots.  No more agressive slashing above the rim thunder dunks over people.  No more fast break badonka donk dunks on the run.  No more fade away threes on the baseline.  No more monsterous rebounds.  He just has no lift anymore and now uses his head more than his legs.  For a guy that got sh*t on all night by the TNT guy's, his 29 points ain't bad.  As far as the Vince of young, that is gone.  Welcome to the new Vince Carter, the guy who averages 21 pts a game-not bad I guess.

VC vs. BD
VC has no heart.  BD has a lot of heart.  I don't think this is a good comparison.
Pray for the guy

J Rich
The talk about Vince got me thinking about J-Rich. With his mad hops, the knees have got to go soon. He has a sweet J, but what is it without the knees. Not the Warriors have a lot to show for him at this point, but it's better than a max contract and bad knees.

I Love Baron
After rereading this, it appears I want to let Baron go.  Not what I wanted to say.

I just think its got to be less than an automatic max long term contract.  Something the Warriors can live with as he gets older, say 3-4 years away.

Nothing better than "The City".

Nets
Baron definitely outplayed an older Jason Kidd but was a little frustrated at the end of the 3rd quarter. The only player that impressed me on the Nets was Richard Jefferson, he defended well and has a nice offensive game. He's a polished version of Matt Barnes and would look good in a warriors uniform. I was at the game last night and it got loud! We got lucky last night that Al finally found his touch otherwise it would've been a tough loss on national tv.

Vince still manages to put up
pretty nice stats every year, even though he probably doesn't go anywhere near all out anymore. Seems ironic that him and Tmac have gotten reps as being soft and not having heart. Those guys had so much promise when they were playing in Toronto, but both of them will only have a chance at a championship as veteran hang ons late in their careers the way they are going now.
