Double-Digit Deficits

I know the Warriors are tops in the league for PPG, 3 point attempts, points in the paint and fast break points. That's all good.

Another category that our Warriors are leading the league in happens to be a double edged blade, kind of. Well, the Warriors are tops in the league at coming back from double digit defecits. This is good and this is bad.

The Warriors have trailed by double digits in 11 of their 26 wins this season.

Good because it shows that we are never out of a game and we have the ability to rally back while down by 20 points. Good because we have the mentality that its never over til its over. Good because it shows mental toughness, tenacity and resilency.

Bad because our offense goes through 2.5 quarters of dry spells. Bad because it shows that we are not a top tier team (i.e Spurs, Celts) because we allow ourselves to be in the position in the first place. Bad because we allow sub .500 teams to be beating us by double digits too frequently.

What is your guys take on this? Is this a good statistic or a bad one?

who cares? at the end of the season, is this what really matters? sure it sucks to be down double digits to sub-par teams but at the end of the day, the warriors do us proud. (most of the time)
never forget...

what it tells you is that
  1. points don't mean as much in our games because more points are scored. A double digit lead in a slower-paced game would be more imposing, regardless of which team is up.
  2. We've had some luck in squeaking out close games so far.
It's almost like the Warriors have 6 guys out there... they always have a guy open! - Jon Barry commentating game 3 last year

does it matter?
in the end, it's the win that matters. besides, the rallies make the game more interesting

odds
are that will catch up to us at some point - particularly against more veteran clubs who know how to sustain their defensive intensity and not let up with a lead... I agree with gsw4life above that it's less an issue, but it still is one

duh
of course it matters, especially playing in the western conference. it is dangerous because it could give this team the mindset that they can coast, and even get down by double digits, because they can catch up anyways if they have to. even the warriors themselves say they're playing with fire when they don't take teams seriously.

ummm
its all coolie during the regular season because whatever gets you into the playoffs is good. but when you get into the playoffs, going through these dry spells will be bad. playoffs = a lot more defensive intensity, where players give it all a la tim duncans and all of the other superstars who half-ass the regular season and step it up a notch during the playoffs when it matter the most.

D=O
The Dubs need to stop with the being down by such large amounts.  For the past 6 weeks, they have been down by a lot and either come back miraculously or they fall short after faintly smelling another victory.

Point blank, they need to hold their leads and constantly apply pressure defensively.  The Dubs fall asleep on D way too much.  Our defense creates our offense.  Those stats tell the story.  What is also evident is that we allow teams to score at will.  If we could just synch things down a notch on D, I think we can get in the playoffs as a 7/8 seed and get deeper than last year.  There has been no consistency other than us either coming back from a large deficit and pulling a victory out or we end up falling short.  No more of that!  Take it to the house on D and the offense will find its way...

Tonight against the Rockets
is a perfect example...Just because we have a fast-break system of ball doesn't mean we have to give up easy baskets all the time...Seriously that point differential between offense and defense needs to widen...It's to damn dangerous having our whole season decided in the last .59 seconds of every game...If the Dubs make a comeback, they might have expended all of thier energy trying to catch up...

How many times this season have we blown out other teams by enough ponits to where Nellie could "expirament" with Bellinelli, Wright, Kosta and POB ...If the Dubs start playing defense with that sense of urgency early on, we all know what thier capable of, we seen them go 16-5 last year. It also gives the Rookies some "game" time so that Nellie can evaluate how they play in game situations not just in practices. Then maybe he can gain some kind of confidence in our young bigs and Bellinelli...

Doesn't matter?
I'm worried Dubbs can fall into this trap. They think they can come back on any team. With that mentality we dig ourselves a hole constantly. Then its the same story line: too little too late.
Put a little mustard on it
