The Warriors make no sense because...

After tonights win against the Hornets, I have come to the conclusion that the Warriors are the most perplexing team in the league.  They really make absolutely no sense.

I mean, they come in to Houston last night, lay an egg in the first half to a team we have beat 4 times in a row and by the end actually have a legit chance to win the ball game.

Then tonight, we come into a game we have no business being in on a back to back and absolutely pummel the Hornets.  We have won 8 games now on the back end of a back to back!  Why?!

And don't even get me started on individuals.  I love Stephen Jackson and have his jersey, but the guy takes some of the worst shots in the league.  And the great part about it that also doesn't make any sense is that a ton of them go in and the ones that don't aren't horrible misses.

I know y'all are thinking the same things I am.  What other reasons can y'all come up with for why they make no sense?  Which, might I add, makes our Dubs THE most exciting team in the L to watch!

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Because sometimes they play down to their opponents. Actually, most of the time the play down. Tonight they wanted to beat the best team in the West, and they did. Handily.

Yesterday they felt like they could play like hot garbage and still pull out a win, luckily the refs put the kabosh on that by keeping Yao on the line.

If we want the warriors to start playing well consistantly, teams are going to have to beat them instead of letting them come back from 10 down to win, which has happened 11 times this year.

MP
gets 12 minutes and Wright gets less than 2? Makes no DAMN sense.

Didn't see the game tonight
but really they don't have pure shooters on this team

Guys are streaky and it looks like the 3's were hitting tonight.  When they do that they can beat anyone really

agreed..
the warriors suck when they think they can win

see.... the orlando game( we were on a streak warriors think their hot cause we beat phoenix and houston.. we get killed)

see. timberwolves game...

see.. houston game..

...look at our record.. every 2 wins we have a loss. Thats because whenever the warriors think they're good they start chucking up 3s expecting them to go in.

BUT when we feel like the underdogs(like when we were trying to climb out of the 0-6 hole) we play really well.. see phoenix game, first houston game and tonite's game

by saintdee on Jan 30, 2008 7:53 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

The warriors are streaky.
I think that's another major reason why they're so unpredictable. Two guys who shoot almost half the shots on the team are 2 of the most streakiest players in the league (Baron and Jackson). Then you have Al Harrington whom you never know will be hot or cold.

You can never underestimate the value of a solid big man either. They get you easy points in a half court set. Watching the Warriors half court game you can tell they don't always move the ball around.

The Warriors are probably THE MOST PERIMETER ORIENTED team in the league. Hands down. Perimeter teams struggle and if you notice the top teams in the league have low post scorers, with the exception being Dallas.

thats it
bad combo many nights perimeter and streaky

Elite teams grind out wins night in and night out even when they aren't hot.  Warriors don't have that luxury

by Zig on Jan 30, 2008 10:13 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Not just perimeter
Yeah, they jack it up as much as anyone. But keep in mind that the Warriors also have the second most points IN THE PAINT in the league. They use their outside shooting to open up driving lanes that wouldn't be there otherwise. And since they don't have 'pure' shooters, they are forced to rely on sheer audacity.  No conscience, just keep shooting until they start to fall.  The reality is, some nights they aren't going to be able to 'will it in'.

But at the end of the day, it's ridiculous how successful they are with a one-man front line.  I agree that it won't win us any championships, but it might get us into the most highly competitive playoff bracket in the history of the NBA.

TK
Tim Kawakami wrote about how Nellie always needs to be the underdog... maybe it just shows how much he knows his team and their habits.

they don't call you saintdee for nuttin
The Commish has said it before and will say it again:  this team thinks it is better than it is and proves it on too regular of a basis.  I don't consider this streaky at all but lack of consistent effort and focus.

i think...
i just think that the warriors are too comfortable at the roaracle!!! they get lazy because the fans are really that good... when they go on the road they have no one but themselves to depend on!!!
win or lose... playoffs or lottery... i gotta luv them dubz! GSW 4 Life!!!

It is quite simple
It is because they are the third youngest team in the league. Youth will drive a man crazy. They havent won for a whole year yet. they are still learning what it takes to win all year long. Hence the need for veteran leadership. i.e. Webber

by Grandma on Jan 30, 2008 8:05 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

This team has youth
but they don't play them. The only guys that are young that actually play are Biedrins and Ellis. Meanwhile, you take the combined averages of the main 8 man rotation, and i don't think you'll have the 3rd youngest team.

I think
the Dubs just need a constant chip on thier shoulder.

I don't know if you caught BD's post game interview but he said something like, "whether or not I make the All Star team doesn't matter, all that matters is a Championship."

Last year, they ALL had something to proove, (that the Dubs still existed in the NBA and a million different other personal reasons) and it translated to one of the greatest first round upsets in NBA history...

I wonder if CWebb, who has had a chip on his shoulder since the Fab 5 days (literally 1 shot away from an NCAA championship and 1 shot (Big Shot Bob) away  from the NBA Finals), and Nellie, who of course doesn't have a ring can bring about this consistent sense of urgency that the Dubs need, to become contenders for the title...

Some nights their offense won't be like tonight but if they continue to play defense CONSISTENTLY, the way the did tonight, it could mean that Nellie and CWebb will accomplished the last thing to solidify thier careers...

makes no sense
That Nellie wont play players he drafted: Belinelli, Wright.  Ok maybe theyre not ready, but as everyone has stated here, 2-3 minutes a game wont hurt.  I mean tonight Byron Scott took out everyone the last 2 minutes of the game, Kosta O'Bryant couldve been banging with Hilton Armstrong down there!

Its been a season long theme.
Nellie won't play them until he's absolutely forced to. Its confusing to hear how great the rooks are doing in practice, but then come game time they get a DNP-CD. From what i've seen, Wright has been a positive on the floor. He needs to work on his defense, but that'll come with game time experience.

Wait'll one of the starters goes down...which could happen with the heavy minutes. knock on wood.

One of my best friends hasa a theory
that POB isnt getting PT because the W's don't want to showcse him to the league. The guy's a free agent after this year, and I think Mully wants to sign him for as little as possible. He had a pretty decent against the Clippers in November, and hasn't seen hardly any PT since...
There really will be less of a need for the guy now that CWebb's back. I guess only time will tell.

by FriscoJoe on Jan 31, 2008 9:30 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I've had the same theory
I really believe that's why they passed on that piddly option of around 2 million for next season to send a message around the league that he's not good enough to sign.  They'll try to sign him for something less than his current contract.  We won't see Patrick play any sort of minutes unless some team is interested in him before the trade deadline.  It's the only reason we've been seeing Pietrus the last few games, but it's totally backfired.
It's all about the killer cross-over baby!

by warriorsfiend on Jan 31, 2008 9:53 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

not buying
based upon how Nelson used MP & Barnes last year, the same logic doesn't hold re POB

there's no conspiracy - POB, Bellinelli, etc aren't ready to win now, Nelson knows every W is important

I wish he'd play CJ more to preserve BD and even with Webber coming we could use the TPE on someone like KThomas ...

Jax
I used to think Jackson used to take bad shots too, but after awhile I realized that he can consistantly hit a lot of those shots, therefore I no longer think they're bad shots, but "his" shots. He should take his shots.

Also, Barnett really loves that triple threat doesnt he?

All aboard the high blood pressure train!!!
Such is the life of a dubs fan.

Win or lose, you are guaranteed high blood pressure during the game . . . especially if Pietrus is in the game.
