Hate over at Blazers Edge

If you haven't read, BE bloggers are mad and disgusted at GSoMers for all the trash talking going on in here about Roy making the All-Star over BD. They think that Warrior fans are all from Oakland and that we're classless. I'm not here to start anything but one Warrior fan(GSoM member I believe) spoke up about the hate on Warrior fans and Baron and he couldn't have said it any better.

http://www.blazersedge.com/story/2008/1/31/192039/101

Wow, this is...
pathetic. Honestly, if you want to get mad at the GSOMers for being mad at Roy when they should be mad at the coaches, that is understandable, even though you should understand that most (not all) of us don't really hate Roy, just what he represents (a player with worse stats on a slightly worse team who gets picked over a Warrior for reasons other than basketball).

But GET OFF THE HIGH HORSE! Ooooh, look at us, we're Blazers fans, and here at Blazers Edge, we're just a little bit better than everyone else. Nevermind the fact that the way we talked about the Warriors fans and ourselves showed ZERO class (because Oakland is a really relevant point) and tons of arrogance and pretentiousness (here at Blazer's Edge, we don't swear, we just do other equally despicable things that aren't directly against the rules like uninformatively calling people thugs), just know that we would rather take shots at the Warriors fans than celebrate our man Roy! Nevermind that supposedly we were just as angry when Randolph was passed over, that's alright, because we didn't swear. Phew, thank god we can still have a false sense of entitlement!

I will address some of the arguments.
You are talking about Warriors and Blazers playing against each other? Why? There are still two games to go that aren't on your home court, and to judge a player's performance on two games rather than the season is selective and wrong. The fact is the overall records don't lie.

"Roy is a special player, but people outside of Portland don't see the things we do." You have to understand that the EXACT same could be said for Baron Davis. If you watched the playoffs last year you would understand.

"Baron Davis shoots at a percentage that is four points lower, and that translates into four extra shots."
Okay, but what do the 3 point, 2.5 assist, 2 steal advantages lead to? How many extra points over the season has Baron scored if he has 3 more per game than Roy?

Now this I don't know, but has Roy played every game? Because Baron has.

It's not that Roy hasn't done anything to deserve it, but he hasn't done anything to deserve it over Baron. Everything he has done, Baron has done, and Baron has done it better. I know he is your guy, but every stat he has, Baron is equal or above. Every clutch shot he's hit, Baron has hit a shot of equal or greater clutchness.

And this I do know, Baron is by far the superior defender, he is top two in the west (either him or Devin Harris).

Roy is my man, I liked him since his Washington days, I always thought he would be better than Robinson. But when he is picked over Baron for non-basketball reasons (certain coaches not liking Baron, the NBA not wanting Baron in New Orleans, the Trailblazers playing past expectations even though they still have a worse record than the Warriors, Roy being a very likable guy) of course we get mad. The disrespect has been coming for a long time now, and a lot of us are fed up with it.

Peace to jksnake, howlingfantods, mortimer, T Darkstar, pretty much anyone that doesn't have their heads shoved up the place that is forbidden to be mentioned on the almighty Blazer's Edge board. Good luck with your season.

everyone should read
this article:
http://www.hoopsworld.com/Story.asp?story_id=7200

read what the blazers coach says about the warriors and I think everyone can understand why there is so much animosity toward the Blazers right now.

wow
i just read that article and now i'm pretty pissed off!!!
He never stopped running!!!

as was i
... its good to say that your player deserves to be an all star..all the coaches do it... but its another to say publicly that baron davis doesn't deserve to be in the running because the warriors are playing as expected...

oh god
that is ridiculous

what
goes around comes around in life.So don't worry at all, they(NBA,Mcmillan,...) will get what they deserve for disrespecting the greatest fans.I just hope that Baron plays an MVP season next year and when they "barely" name him an all-star he answers NO THANKS because i'm a Warrior and warriors don't bent their knees for no one.

That was me
I'm sick of the constant hate that I can't defend in real life because I'm not there, but if all I have to do is type and click then I'll give them a piece of my mind.

top two defensive point guard, my bad.

I agree
With most of your points, but Devin Harris one of the top defensive point guards?!!! That flopper?!
I mean come on...
Bring on the BD Show!!!

He's
actually improved a lot this year, which is why I'm terrified of the Mavs possibly sending him to Portland.

I'm stunned Nate said that
Doesn't sound like him at all.  Makes me think it was taken out of context.

I think we should try to end this.  The Blazers and Warriors have two of the best fan bases in the NBA.  We shouldn't be calling each other out like this.

Baron is an allstar, whether the NBA says so or not.  Most NBA fans realize this.

by jksnake99 on Jan 31, 2008 8:56 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I agree 100%.
It's not as if we hate Brandon Roy, but he deserves it less than Baron. Of course we are going to be upset. They need to get off their high horse and stop acting as if they are better than us.

by danschmeck on Jan 31, 2008 8:58 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I'm sorry...
but I'm looking forward to the blazers missing the playoffs now.  Suck it McMillan!

Does he even watch warriors games?  Does he not know that Baron literally picks everyone up, puts them on his shoulders and carries them to a win?  I mean, look at the roster!  Baron is almost single-handedly keeping this team out of the lottery.

by kinetic on Jan 31, 2008 9:14 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Clearly he hasn't
He's probobly watched a total of 2 and they were probobly 2 of Baron's worst games.

There's no excuse for what Nate said, and as a Blazer fan who's never heard him call out an opponent EVER, I'm really stunned and disappointed by it.

When was the last time
the Warriors had an all-star? It's been a while, that's all I know. It'a about pride and respect. The Blazers had Randolph in the game a couple years back, but the Dub's haven't had anyone for a while. Anyone know how long?
!!Spree for three!!

by peteb24 on Jan 31, 2008 9:16 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Randolph
has never been an all-star.  The last Blazer was Rasheed Wallace in 2000 and 2001.

I think it was Sprewell
and it was over a decade.  13 years?

by nautica on Jan 31, 2008 9:19 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

do you
know maybe if this is the longest all-star drought for a team

by buky on Feb 1, 2008 4:18 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

not sure about the drought,
but I think it was Spree back in 97 when there was like 10-11 "Old" Dubs playing in the All Star Game...

by RubberDubDubs on Feb 1, 2008 11:23 AM PST up reply actions   0 recs

incredible
every other guy on that site posts some holier-than-thou comment, like "we would never say anything bad... actually, we fart perfume"

which makes it even more ironic that they're making fun of everyone in the bay area.

by antihero on Jan 31, 2008 9:29 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

hehehe
we would never say anything bad

Some of them are real about it, some of them aren't.

First the individual who said that shouldn't have spoken regarding the whole.  Because obviously, that is not true in most cases.

asdf
What's with the flaming blog war? Quit being geeks and talking shit about Roy, you guys are acting like   it's his fault he got voted in by the coaches. He's deserving and so is BD and every other player that was "snubbed". Let him be snubbed, let it light a fire under his ass for the 2nd half of the season. You know BD is going to take this personally and he'll make sure he gets his payback, besides the all star game is a joke and he can use the rest.

by J Rich 4 MVP on Jan 31, 2008 9:32 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

AMEN!
That gives BD some MUCH needed rest and an extra week to practice with WEBBER.  Let another team's pride and joy suffer a high ankle sprain in that meaningless game.  What REALLY counts is the year end ALL NBA TEAMS.  1st & 2nd Team ALL NBA > ALL STAR.
Best duo since...

by Tim N Chris Burger on Jan 31, 2008 9:52 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed
A lot of other players were deserving too (specifically Marcus Camby. Holy shit!). Like Baron said in his last game interview, "Let's just win the Championship then!" or something along the lines of that. Haha

Do the Math....
"Baron Davis shoots at a percentage that is four points lower, and that translates into four extra shots."

I am honestly surprised that nobody else has touched on this. Whoever made this comment was incorrect.

Baron's percentage is lower because he gets a lot of his points from three pointers...in fact he makes more than twice as many threes as Roy per game AND shoots threes at a higher percentage than Roy (35.4 vs 33.8).

If you do the math: Roy is a shade over one "shot" more efficient than Davis. Remember that you have to weight the following:

  1. You have to look at effective field goal percentage because a guy who only shoots threes andshoots 33.33333 percent from downtown is the same as a guy like Monta Ellis who shoots roughly 50 percent. Effective FG % takes into account the threeball.
  2. Remember that Davis, though he takes more shots than Roy, also scores more points: only about 2 more points though (free throws are taken out of the equation).
Thus, Davis is slightly more "inefficient than Roy" but by only about 1 shot. However, Davis does get only about 1 net steal more than Roy (factor in the turnovers) so it equalizes.

Thus, Baron's slightly lower FG % is offset by his larger amount of steals.

Therefore: Baron and Roy are roughly equal in FG percentage and steals. So really, the only "major" category Roy is better than Davis in is FT %, though Davis attempts and makes more FT's than Roy.

I am dissapointed in the blogger from Blazer's Edge for making such an erroneous statement. I will represent GSoM as a first time poster (I mostly read the great articles here) and say that we are NOT thugs or "gangstas". In fact if anybody wants to have an intellectual conversation from Blazers Edge feel free to come to Cal (UC Berkeley).

Go Warriors!
Go Bears!

BD should be an All-Star but...
I have seen a couple other people say this but I think the Warriors will feed of this snub. Tupac once said "they don't even want to by my records, but they gotta buy my records". Same deal with the Warriors they don't want to like the Davis, Jackson, and Nelson's style, but who doesn't love watching the Warriors? I think we all just need to chill, out All-Star games are great and I would love to see Baron there. The thing is the Warriors have something statistics and number of all stars can't measure and that is chemistry and heart. Personally  other fans and coaches can snub us all they want. When their team comes to Oracle they will know what is up.

wow , cant believe what this guy just said........
The bottom line: what Davis did for the Warriors in last year's Mavs series, Roy has done for the Blazers this season--and he's done it for a team that won just 32 games last year, then got rid of its top scorer & rebounder as well as its back-up center (to make room for Oden).  THAT'S impressive.

Ridiculous
they snub the most exciting team in the NBA.The statement is don't play small, uptempo, high scoring basketball which people want to see, be like spurs,...vice versa style of B-ball,and people will rather see opera on tv than NBA finals. This is anti-basketball propaganda.
