Hey Mr. DJ. Goodbye Mr. DJ

It looks like the Warriors are beginning to make moves before the trade deadline.  Perhaps this might be the gateway move that will snowball into a trade for more talent.  Perhaps its a sign that the Warriors are looking to upgrade.  Starting today, the Warriors look like they're positioning themselves as major players in the near and far future.

Or maybe this is just a routine move to open up space for another NBDL stud to make his mark on our team and the NBA at large?

Looks like Warrior fans won't be able to take awkward candid shots with DJ MBenga anymore

The Warriors cut DJ Mbenga, as reported byJanny Hu in SFGate.com.

Mbenga appeared in 16 games for the Warriors, averaging 1.2 points and 1.9 rebounds in 8.9 minutes per contest.

Though he played sparingly, his size and hustle (and low cost as Hu reports) was appreciated.  Thank you Mr. Dj and farewell.  Best of luck in the future.  Please do not become a Warrior Killer in your next stint with another team.

contract issues.
It's a financial move to cut a guy who wasn't really  providing much.  On Jan 10, contracts become guaranteed for the season.  At that point, they'd be stuck with Mbenga for the season.  I suspect the thought was that a roll of dice for another NBDL type player would be better.  It's possible that a trade will come down and they want to make sure that there's a roster spot rather than having to eat a (very modest) contract, but it could just be realization that paying a few 100k for nothing isn't as good as saving a 100k for the same nothing.

Mbenga hadn't done that much statistically and his plus/minus suggests that the "little things" and "things that don't show up in the box score" weren't particularly positive either.  I was never sure why he was getting burn over Wright or the POB or Croshere.  He may be bigger and stronger, but the on-court results didn't suggest much that that mattered.

In a few days they can bring him back for a couple of 10-day contracts if it's deemed useful and no one else pounces to get his services.

Man
I had no clue this was coming .. all indications were that they were going to keep him. It's too bad - he wasn't 100% yet, but maybe they'll bring him for the 10-days as JAE said.

I wish we kept Lasme. . .
for just a little longer to see why he is known for his shot blocking ability.

Agreed
I really think Lasme could have contributed more.

strange timing
considering we are playing the Spurs tomorrow night...anyone involved in a trade will not be available to play by tomorrow. So no immediate help there. And DJ's deal became gauranteed Thursday, so why not wait another day in order to have him available against the Spurs? Just weird timing.

Oh well....
it was fun.

No matter who it is, always sad to see a guy cut.
