Warriors at the 1/3 Pole

Future is Bright and Getting Brighter

Star-divide

The season is just past the 1/3 pole and the W's are doing better than I thought they would, especially considering the SJax suspension to start the season.

As they are currently made up, I think Mully and Nellie have done a nice job of putting the pieces together.
Biedrins is a pretty nice young center.

Harrington is a pretty respectable F

Azubuike has done very well given that he's only been in the league one year.

SJax, Monta and Baron make up a pretty nice set of swingmen and PG.

The bench, Barnes, Pietrus, etc. has been inconsistent.  Hopefully Wright can add more as the season goes on.  Don't know what the deal is with Barnes, his shot selection seems poor as he jacks up 3s at bad times (too quick sometimes) and his % is down.  But he still makes nice passes and is the third best passer on the team after Baron and SJax.  Bellinelli?  Not this year.  POB? I loved what I saw against the Clippers but I don't know how he pissed off Nellie.

Is this team going to win the Championship?  Not likely because they are a dominant big defender away (Ben Wallace '2004).  But there's a chance because of how the pieces fit.

More importantly, there is a very good foundation in place (Monta, Biedrins, Harrington (still young), Baron and SJax.)  If the W's can just get lucky with either POB, Bellinelli or Wright and have them blossom into a near-great player, look out.  Oh yeah, they need to resign Monta and Biedrins (very little chance they do not) and somehow keep Nellie or someone like Nellie in place (Smart?)

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

I'd like
for the remainder of the season we start
  1. Baron
  2. Kelenna
  3. Jax
  4. Wright
  5. Biedrins
with Monta and Al off the bench for the second unit. Have the second unit fill out with MP/Barnes (whomever is playing better that night), and then CJ watson and POB if they come to play.

Of course Nellie loves matchups so interchange Harrington and Monta in and out of the lineup.

I think its more probable than not that Biedrins gets a long term contract. But Monta still remains a question. It is obvious that he is not progressing fast enough to man the pg position, as evidenced by the signing of CJ. So if you can use Monta as a sign and trade to fill our lineup with talent at where we lack, i think that's the way to go.

If CJ has a Kelenna type impact on this team, i think it'd make a real tough decision on the warriors on what to do with Monta. Kelenna would arguably command less on the market, plus minor drop off in production could mean Kelenna is the more desirable signing. Plus we also have Marco for the next 3 years.

The unfortunate thing would be Monta's lack of pg skills on the trade market. Seeing how combo guards aren't premium guys in the NBA.

As far as Monta goes
He needs to get resigned. Having a player who is so fast that a fast break can happen at any moment is such a luxury. If we didnt have Monta all season long, how many fast break points would we have lost. Sure, he isnt a great handler (yet) and may never be, but speed is something you cant teach. And if you get someone with extraordinary speed and quickness, not to mention having a great set of basketball skill, you just do not let someone like that walk.

Just my opinion

dont forget to add
he also pulls down offensive rebounds.

you can get speed through the draft.
Plus we shouldn't let Monta walk. S/T for something of use. Letting him walk would be a mistake of Arenas size proportions.

it's not just speed though
it's speed combined with his ability to finish (so the speed matters) and shoot the mid-range (so they can't back off of him like they do with Conley or Rondo). He really is a superstar-in-the-making, and I'm not being a homer when I say that. NBA experts rave about this guy.
It's almost like the Warriors have 6 guys out there... they always have a guy open! - Jon Barry commentating game 3 last year

NBA Experts
Rave about a lot of guys.  That doesn't automatically mean they'll be good.

Mike Dunleavy,  Sam Bowie, Kwame Brown, Eddy Curry, Adonal Foyle, and Darko were all supposed to become all stars, and the list goes on.  Others can find better examples I'm sure.

Monta is a good player with great metrics, but if he's ever going to be a "superstar," he needs to make some big improvements in size, ball handling, court vision, understanding general BBall principles, etc.

Warriors looking good
I, for one, felt that the warriors might take a step back trading away J-Rich and not adding any depth to their bench.
The warriors have stayed healthy and are coming together nicely. With the schedule easing up, we may get a look at some of the younger guys to see if they can contribute.
One thing they need to do is take care of the logjam between Barnes, Pietrus and Azibuke. Pietrus looks like the most likely to go. Maybe get someone to help out the front court or if Watson doesn't pan out, a back up pg.
