Warriors add Dickau

I just heard on KNBR from Bob Fitzgerald, that the Golden State Warriors have signed former Gonzaga Bulldog - Dan Dickau to the team to help with point guard duties while we are short handed to start the year.

Decent signing, I'm not sure where he'll fit in with Williams, Nelson, Watson, etc...

Didn't we have Dickau for a short while a few years back?  I'm just wasting time now trying to fill up the 75 words!!!

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Hasn't just about every team had Dickau now?

That guy gets around more than a roulette wheel.

jeez

he’s a complete scrub. i don’t know what the organization is thinking…playing beli out of position at the 1, and marcus most of the time, is a much much better fate

We shouldn’t assume that a) anyone signed now has a guaranteed contract or will make the team and b) if they “make the team” they’ll make it on the active roster. This temp slot while Ellis mends may just be someone to move the ball around in practice. Dickau is a lousy defender and hasn’t shown much of an ability to score, but he handle the ball well, doesn’t turn it over and gets a good number of assists. As a practice player, he’s more of a traditional point guard, able to beat pressure with the dribble than anyone else we’d have for practice. For the players who won’t play, thinking about how they’ll help in practice is not a bad move.

Dickau as a Blazer

Mine wasn’t a majority opinion, but I thought he was a good guy to have on the bench. He was always ready to play even though he’d sit for game after game. He kept himself in shape, practiced hard, paid attention during timeouts, never complained about playing time. He knew his role which was essentially to be ready. The main complaint from fans was probably his poor shooting. He never hesitated to shoot – including 3’s – but seldom had a good shooting game. He started a few games for us and wasn’t really a liability.

Nellie

said CJ Watson is the best PG on the team now, apparently that’s not good enough.

by semarubaka on Oct 1, 2008 5:08 PM PDT   0 recs

Time again to reconcile what Nellie says with reality.

I’m gonna say that it’s more likely that we’ll be adding “CJ Watson is the best PG on the team” to a list with “Dunleavy is a natural 4” than we are to see him take over at the point guard position. I could be wrong, but I’ve learned to take everything Nelson with some much warranted skepticism.

he's the coach

it’s his job to motivate and plan, not to be honest. if that statement lights a fire under marcus’s ass and he plays hard and runs the team with a chip on his shoulder, great call by nellie. every coach needs to do things like that. maybe nellie does it a bit more than most coaches, but he’s a good coach, and i trust he knows what he’s doing.

I think some of the things Nellie says are “motivation.” Some are simply because he enjoys the sound of his own voice. Nelson is a good coach, but he’s one who makes some mistakes.

true

but i’m all for it anyway. i love the sound of his voice too.

hmm

now that we have dan dickau….baron who?

by lowchi on Oct 1, 2008 5:49 PM PDT   0 recs

Not Bad...

With the current state of the backcourt I can understand why they might want to bring this guy in and see how he compares to the rest of our PG’s. Just a reminder here, none of our PG’s are proven at this level at all. I’m not necessarily expecting him to stick, but so long as we are expecting miracles why not bring in one more guy for us to have unrealistic expectations about. I hope his hair is as floppy as I remember it. = )

Great , another Dunleavey? Marcus and CJ must really suck if Nellie s wants this guy? Why dint he get Jason Williams when he was available?

because...

maybe he would’ve retired regardless of whether we got him or not.

But at least he’d give us some cool even sitting on the bench.

It so often sounds like all a team has to do to get a player is want that player. Was Williams available for what we gave Dickau? Dickau got a non-guaranteed min contract. It’s very, very likely that he won’t last the season and he’s a placeholder for the time being. Since Williams retired from a contract with the Clippers, I don’t know that we’d even be able to sign him even if he wanted to play again.

Hi jae, That’s one necessary ingredient :>)
Never heard that we had any interest in Whiteboy which seems odd. No one I’ve seen was as creative at point so he seems like he woulda been a great teacher for our youngsters.
If he sticks we gotta give this guy a new name. Dick-ow doesn’t hold up to Boom Dizzle in the team coolness aspect.

Mullin and company don’t seem to leak who they’re targeting until they make an offer. I don’t take not hearing that there’s interest to mean anything one way or another.

YES!

WE GOT DAN DICKAU!!!

This made my day…………………………………………

by Five Ten Entertainment on Oct 1, 2008 9:03 PM PDT   0 recs

Dickau wont make it through training camp...

but he will add some maturity and experience to the mix for the other guards to feed off of and learn from. We need a mature guard during camp and preseason to get the young guys to play hard and look for little things they dont know about yet.
Without a guy like DIckau in camp I dont think someone like Morrow has a shot at making an impact.
Even though DIckau hasnt played much, he fills a little section of the hole that Baron took with him in the leadership department.

by warriorsvictim on Oct 2, 2008 8:46 AM PDT   0 recs

horrible

why do we do this? the dub organization feels like we have a hole in our PG position so we throw in anybody that’s available. Dickau won’t do ANYTHING for us…

by Young Moolah on Oct 2, 2008 1:58 PM PDT   0 recs

come on

he’s a great addition to the practice squad.

Realistically, there’s not anyone available in our price range who will do much for us. Dickau is the equivalent of a free player, but that’s what we can afford currently.
