Let's reminsce all the trends in oncourt fashion thru the years...
Kinda off-topic but I was thinkin about this the other day and wanted my fellow GSOMers to add their fashion trends past and present. I'll start it off...
1. Afros: Dr. J's fro was classic!
2. High socks: not sure who started this but this trend started back in the 60s(with the cheesy stripes) and still lives on now with many players.
3. headbands: the timeless fashion trend
4. long shorts: MJ has been proclaimed as the first NBA player to sport the long shorts. Now its ridiculous how low some of these current players wear their shorts nowadays!
5. goggles: Kareem made wearing goggles cool. Look at what it did for Rambis!
6. compressed spandex shorts: I think the guys back in the 80s before the long shorts became a standard wore these under their short shorts to get more "support". hehe
7. knee/elbow pads: Hakeem and Kevin Willis wore them proud!
8. wrist band on the forearm or bicep: seems like another trend MJ started and died off in the late 90s when he retired
9. rubber bands: seems like players started wearing them on their wrist to show they were ballers. I guess when the NBA banned jewelry, players started sporting rubber bands on their wrists.
10. tats: they have always been adorned by NBA pros but it seems that A.I. sparked an "ink movement" as another avenue of self-expression since its one of the hew sports where players show a lot of skin. Seems like half the league is tatted up nowadays.
11. elbow sleeve: it seems like A.I. started this trend too. I don't remember anyone else who sported the sleeve before him. Now you got dudes like Kobe and Melo wearing them.
12. Braids: another A.I. brainchild
13. TIghts: I thought this was pretty ghey and I'm glad the NBA banned them!
14. Underarmour: D-Wade seems to have made this popular. I see a lot of players wearing protective upper body and hip/ass padding to cushion their fall.
Aight...that's all I can think of. Please add anything else I forgot and speak on the ones I did mention. I wonder what fashion trend will be next?

Also, face mask by Rip Hamilton.
Overweight player – Charles Barkley? Not really fashion, but you see alot of overweight guys who made it to the nba.

Black Shoes...
When Jordan introduced the Nike Air Jordan, the NBA fined him thousands of dollars each game for wearing them because they had color (red & black). Since then, players can wear any type of kicks, any color, any brand name. My fave are black shoes, particularly the Reebok Pumps Dee Brown wore to win the Slam Dunk Contest. Those were classic!! I believe the whole Boston Celtics wore black shoes during that time. Didn’t Larry Bird look more intimidating with black Converse?? Gotta give props to MJ for the shoe revolution…

Speaking of Air Jordans...
Which model of Air Jordans were your fave?? Personally, my fave were the Air Jordan 4’s mainly because those are the only ones I have ever owned, plus they still look hot now.

These are the 4’s. This website also shows all the Jordans throughout the years. Which is your fave??

You forgot a few
Facemasks. Once they get one on, they never take it off.
DWade’s pseudo football padding.
I hate Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappelle, and Russel Peters because they make fun of white people like me. They also make fun of other kinds of people, which hurts me deep down because my ancestry is so mixed that I don't know what my official "race" is... so I get offended for all races!

NBA styles
Greatest afro: Darnell “Dr. Dunk” Hillman (Indiana Pacers ABA, later briefly Warriors.). I was going to cite Slick Watts and World B. Free as precursors to the shaved head look but maybe they were just bald. Braids (supercool on AI, not so great on most others eg Troy Hudson). Dyed hair (Rodman), Dyed beard (Brian Skinner). White dudes with shaved heads (Matt Geiger, Rex Chapman). The fade (I think popularized by exciting athletic Louisville early eighties team with McCray brothers, Derek Smith), whatever you call Kenny (Sky) Walker’s hairstyle (hightop fade?), Euro-mullet (Detlef Schremp, Rik Smits), Jewfro (Phil Jackson), Hairclub for men (Rick Barry), Gericurl (Michael Cage), T-shirt under jersey (Patrick Ewing at Georgetown), fat dudes that can’t play taken in the lottery (JR Reid, Tractor Traylor, Oliver Miller), Fat dudes that can play (Barkley, Mark Jackson, Mark Aguirre), wieird white NBA long hair look with what looks like a top-knot (Scott Pollard, Mike Miller)

I'm sure I'm in the minority here
Its funny. I watch hoops with my Dad who is as hip as can be for a 60 year old(wears Jordans, owns iphone and orders everything via the web), but he and I crack up at what players look like today.
From head to toe:
Headband
Ghey neck tatoos
Wristband on the forearm
Wristband on the wrist
Arm Sleeve on the other arm with no wristbands
Shorts down to their shins
If no knee high socks, then calf sleeve
WTF happened to dudes putting on some shoes, socks, shorts and a jersey and going out and balling? As “Billy” from White Men Can’t Jump said its almost like players want to look good and play like crap than play good. I don’t know.
Mello is the reason why the NBA isn’t more popular amongst the masses.
