New Blog: Backing the Pack for NC State Fans!

is this the beginning of the end?

Fellow fans I post this piece in the hopes that Warrior nation can change my mind.  We all know by now that Monta was suspended 30 games, but, that's not the issue IMO. In this article on espn http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3638098 it says that "both Mullin and Nelson seemed to be leaning toward Ellis remaining with the team without punishment. Rowell apparently didn't agree". Let's keep in mind too, that Captain Jack recently said Mullin hasn't been inovlved in his talks with the organization about a contract extension.  And, how Mullin had an extension worked out with Baron which Rowell overruled. To me it seems like the wheels are falling off for us yet again. Say what you want about Mullin, despite his mistakes he was still able to put a good product on the court as he grew into his role.  It's my guestimation that he won't be back next year and Nelly will be gone too (if he makes it through this year). This kind of instability at the top is not the kind of thing a fragile and unsuccessful can easily weather and I fear we might yet be reduced to the laughing stock of the league if the current trend continues.

Thoughts?

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

A concern yes.

It is a concern sure. It could be the end of the beginning. Think positive on this and I encourage others to as well. Positive change could come of this.

This is worse than Tropic Thunder

I am deeply insulted by your references to that hate filled word. Apologize or I will make a voodoo doll of you.

I hate Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappelle, and Russel Peters because they make fun of white people like me. They also make fun of other kinds of people, which hurts me deep down because my ancestry is so mixed that I don't know what my official "race" is... so I get offended for all races!

not convinced they werent on the same page

truthfully, im doubtful there was split thinking here that they not punish monta. Perception is very important, and its easy to have the 4 of them sit in a meeting and say, ok you 2 good cops, us 2 bad cops. It makes more sense to me to have the gm and coach come out and say, we are in your corner monta we love you forever, and then have the owners still fine him so that he can say, well at least my coach fought for me. or maybe im given the front office to much credit, but i still doubt that this wasnt an agreed upon decision by all the executives, even nellie and mully.

guestimation...really???

you know, there’s a REAL word that means the same thing, and doesn’t make you sound like sarah palin…

I'm keen on the professional basketball club The Golden State Warriors. I don't fancy other clubs.

I read another article

that said Rowell was fighting for complete void of his contract. Be thankful that didnt happen. Then no players would ever come here with this front office.
Mullin is already out the door. They have takin him out of any deals going on. There just letting him run out his contract quietly. They will not resign him and he will not come back. Most likely Nelson won’t either. With the treatment to his friend Mullin. The way they back out on Davis after agreeing to a deal and not not caring what he tought about Monta’s fine.

Hope they re-sign Jackson soon, because I hear their will be a backlash around the league and players will avoid here like the plague. Before I didnt really want Jackson signed at this point to a new contract. But now with the new over-strict front office stance, I hope it does happen soon. Otherwise no good players will even take a glance at our team.

i liked mullin for a while

but those absurd offers to g arenas and brand were evidence of a guy without a plan that hadn’t really improved as a gm at all. i couldn’t believe how desperate he was. i mean, do you see kevin pritchard pull that kind of s—t? but i think he’s started to draft well at least.

by steelekord on Oct 11, 2008 6:41 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

??

you dont think brand and arenas are worth max money?

by saintdee on Oct 11, 2008 7:00 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yeah hes not but....

that was the only chance we had at signing him

luckily, it dint happen

by 3Kings650 on Oct 12, 2008 10:56 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

not just that

it was contrary to the youth movement mullin seemed to be pulling for. seemed like more of a move to appease the fans in general, but not enough to get us over the hump of being a low playoff seed, and we’d have no financial flexibility for the future

by steelekord on Oct 12, 2008 4:38 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

not to beat a dead horse

because this is water over the dam, but while acquiring Brand would have filled an acute need and would have made us a complete roster the reach for Arenas was complete lunacy since it was a max contract duplicating strengths we already had in Monta and would have decapitated our ability to land another FA who could address our inside needs anytime in the future … Brand was never coming here, he would either play with Philly & hope to navigate the ECF or play in LAC with Baron

… as for the youth movement, Mullin doesn’t seem to have bought 100% into it – signing Maggette, Turiaf, etc. seem to be moves to provide Nelson with a mixed roster which if healthy could compete for a low playoff seed and at least win some games as he chases the all-time wins mark …

we might yet be reduced to the laughing stock of the league if the current trend continues.

The long term trend is still “laughing stock”, one and a half good seasons just raises the moving average a bit but doesn’t turn the line upwards.

sounds like Rowell and Cohan want Mullin out to me.

"Chris Mullin made it perfectly clear to both Mr. Cohan and myself that he didn’t think this was a big deal at the beginning, and we happen to think it’s a very big deal," Rowell said. "We happen to think that it’s a big deal for our fans, it’s a big deal for our season ticket-holders, it’s a big deal for our business partners, it’s a big deal for the Warriors organization."

ugh

this is pretty negative. the franchise as it is already has a hard enough time attracting players because we’re synonomous with losing. chris mullin and don nelson provided this team with credibility and developed a culture in which players wanted to go here. if they’re gone and it’s because of a percieved difference between ownership and them, then you can forget it. it will be highly negative for the franchise and players won’t want to come to the bay.

by Bigben777 on Oct 12, 2008 8:33 AM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

thing

i don’t get why do they own these teams if it seems like they want them to suck. wouldn’t that in the long run have them loose money. i know they probably think they are doing the right thing, but if your right thing has been wrong for more than 5 years i think their right thing is very very wrong!

So I don't have a signature well these words would do! Who knew that upgrades can have downgrades too!

by jae on Oct 12, 2008 9:56 AM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

where’s that petition again for the ouster of the Cohan/Rowell debacle? Dubz fans unite! we will never be a winning franchise unless there is true leadership in the front office.

by rumpshaka on Oct 12, 2008 6:55 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

because this is all just speculation right now, and it is not even well done speculation. It is just an attempt to link anecdotes into a policy, when missing a lot of relevant information. If the speculation is true, however, cohan and rowell are as crazy as al davis, but in a less interesting way.

I hate Cohan and Rowell!!! they’re idiots…they should leave the basketball decisions to Mullin and Nelson . they should just stick to the finances and let the people who know basketball do what they do! they better not ruin the future of this team!!

by ItsDatFriscoSwag415 on Oct 13, 2008 9:39 AM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

that's what they did.

they DID stick to finances. the disciplinary action given is based solely on the benjamins. that’s the main point of this “suspension”—to make sure monta isn’t getting paid vast amounts of cash for violating the most basic terms of his contract.

cop out answer, but everything about this sucks. everything. worst off, there really isn’t a simple way to resolve it.

monta shouldn’t be allowed to walk away from this situation fiscally unscathed, but not letting him sit with the team during games? probably not a smart move, considering monta’s really being billed as the franchise’s future. on the other hand, rowell and cohan want to make sure their money is being spent wisely—and they have every right to do so—but if financial restitution is their perogative, can’t they just fine him?

as for the future of this team, there’s lots of blame to go around as well. monta put the future of the franchise in his hands when he got on the moped, and suffered a devastating injury. there’s blame to be dolled out there. cohan and rowell jeopardized locker room dynamics by publicly overriding the coach and GM, and removing the star player from the team. even mully and nellie aren’t innocent in this—they very nearly let their star player commit a major breach in his contract without any sort of consequence. that is not a healthy way to run a team.

frankly, i think the action as it stands is the best solution possible. rowell gets a portion of his money back. monta gets to use facilities and attend practices, and still walks away with an ungodly amount of money even though he breached an exceedingly simple aspect of his contract. nellie and mully…well, they’ve still got their jobs (not that they were in danger of losing them), and a pretty intriguing roster going into 2008-9.

by JJBG on Oct 13, 2008 8:21 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

can’t they just fine him?

Is there something in the bargaining agreement that would require them to suspend him before fining him?

mullie's been here for 5 years right?

he has taken us to the playoffs once and a 48 win season that would have been a playoff appearance any other year. I think that after 100 years of missing the post season, we can call this 2 for 5 and be perfectly happy with Millie’s performance.
This year will be the one that makes or breaks his career and whether or not we really rip him apart on goldenstateof mind.
This is his team now – no more carry over baggage from previous administrations – so any failures to succeed will be on him and the players he is managing.
I do agree that things appear to be breaking down between ownership, Rowell, and Mulllie…the public comments by Rowell are unbelievable. He should be seen and not heard which means something is really wrong in Warrior land.
