YouPreview for 2 Lowerbowl Tix to Warriors vs Lietuvos Rytas
REMINDER: Get your YouPreview in by Monday 10/20/08 5pm!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As part of my new cushy GSoM office job I'm in charge of dealin'. Yes, I know that sounds a little shady given that I'm a veteran resident of EPA, but all that means is I'm in charge of holding the contests for the GSoM season tickets.
For the second ticket contest of 08-09 (did you blink and miss the first one?) we're giving away 2 lowerbowl tickets (face value $85 each) to watch the Warriors take on Lietuvos Rytas in the most highly anticipated Warriors preseason game since they served that Turkish beerball team pre-We Believe. I honestly can't give you a good scouting report on this Euro hoops squad, but I can tell you that their dance team's got nothing on the supa-fly Warrior Girls...

Um not even close.
(notice there's no one even in the stands?)
Jump for how to YouPreview the Warriors 2008-2009 season for a chance to win these 2 golden tickets!
YouPreview
You've read what all the pundits and wannabe- pundits have projected for the Golden State Warriors this season, but what do you think? Was this past offseason a disaster? Is there a silver lining? Who's going to blow up? Who's going to be a bust? How many W's will be collected when it's all said and done? Is Cohan going to go 1 for 15?
Drop your season preview in the comments of this post by Monday 10/20/08 5pm for a chance at fame (we'll run the winning preview on the front page) and 2 lowerbowl tickets to watch Lietuvos Rytas.
Don't forget:
- 500 words or less- longer does not mean better
- post your 2008-2009 Golden State Warriors season preview in the comments of THIS post
- last entries will not be not accepted
- the tickets are non-transferrable, meaning if you win we can't send your winning tix to your friend or your friend's friend, etc
- feel free to drop your own preview even if you're not interested in going to the Lietuvos Rytas game- just make a note of that in the comments
- I'll be picking the winner. You'll win points if you crack me up about how "Unstoppable Baby!" we (Warriors Nation) are once again.
- you'll lose points for poor writing and grammar, so prufreed.
Good luck. Can't wait to read your season previews!
I'll try to post my own season preview when I announce the winner of YouPreview next Monday night, but here's the Cliff Notes...

I’ve got two tickets to this game, and if anyone’s interested I could give you a real good deal for them. If you’re interested email me at number22drew@gmail.com.
Well...
I didn’t check my email and apparently there was a presale where I could’ve gotten free tickets. I want to go, so I’ll write a makeshift preview on the off-chance that no one else cares. My preview of the Warriors 2008-2009 season:
Many Bay Area fans were heartbroken when, during a relatively uneventful summer, the news of Baron Davis’ defection to the Clippers made its way to the airwaves. This began a long string of questionable decisions by the Golden State Warriors’ front office, including the depressingly safe signing of Corey Maggette and of two yawners in Roni Turiaf and Marcus Williams.
However, hope is always alive in the Bay, and increasingly nervous fans “Believed” that Monta would step up and save the Warriors from a sure return to their losing ways. That turned out to be an epic fail. Just like last season, the Warriors will enter the fray without a key player, except this time the effect will be at least five times as painful.
Many people will be seriously injured in the process, and I am not talking about the players on the court; I am talking about the hearts and minds of the Bay Area faithful. We’re talking a 30-win season at best, and with $10 “jumbo” hot dogs to boot (last time I checked, jumbo meant nourishing). Oh yeah, and no Thunder. Thanks for nothing, front office.
The silver lining? Some socialist wanker (can I say wanker?) pretending to be Martin Luther King is going to be running the country, so we can all expect everyone else to suffer through more of the same too! The burden will be shared amongst all the people, not just Warrior fans. Happy belated birthday Manute Bol!

2008-09 Preview
There are many opportunities to look at this year’s Warrior team and see a step back from last year. With the departure of Baron Davis, Monta Ellis’ injury, and the apparent lack of cohesion in the front office, a surface level analysis of this team would seem in disarray. However, there are many reasons to be optimistic this year.
Corey Maggette improves the Warriors in a way they have been lacking in recent years – creating contact and cashing in from the line.
Ronny Turiaf, and potentially Richard Hendrix, provide some bulk and hustle up front.
Marco Bellinelli and Brandan Wright have a year of experience under their belts – and have both worked hard this summer on defense and conditioning. They will contribute this year.
Kelenna Azubuike is exactly the kind of player that fits this team, and will see increased minutes this year. His athleticism, outside shooting and professional demeanor will win ball games this year.
C.J. Watson, Marcus Williams, and DeMarcus Nelson CAN contribute and CAN run this team for 30 games. Their main task will be setting up the offense, and playing on-ball defense. In Don Nelson’s up-tempo style, they should all be able to run and distribute. The Point Guards do not need to score for the Warriors to win, and many people forget that Stephen Jackson can handle and distribute as well.
With Baron gone, Warriors’ fans can expect less of the 1-5 pick and roll and more offensive movement based around Corey Maggette, as well as their exciting, running style. From the preseason games so far, it is clear that the Warriors will go more than 7 deep this year, and that their mix of youth, athleticism, and energy will help them win.
Finally, the Warriors like to be the underdog. They would prefer to be under the radar and to surprise people. With 19,000 fans behind them at every home game, these Warriors will rise to the occasion.
With veteran leadership, passion, and experience from Stephen Jackson, Al Harrington and Andris Biedrins the Warriors are looking at a opening stretch of games that are winnable, even without Monta Ellis. His return, in December should lift this team and put everyone in their role for a stretch run that will count.

2008-2009 Team Preview
Since I’m not a great writer, I’m going to break this down player by player, leaving out the players who may not make a difference this year.
Kelenna Azubuike- This is his chance to go from being a great energy guy to a consistant scorer off the bench. With Monta out, Buke is going to get chances, and he’ll need to improve his shooting, because we already know he can score off offensive rebounds and broken down plays.
Marco Bellinelli- I’m not going to lie, Bellinelli looked flat out attrocious last year. We know he can nail wide open trey’s, but we also know that that doesn’t make a great or even good NBA player. To succeed he will need to fit into the offense more, and maybe become a Jason Kapono type player.
Andris Biedrins- Biedrins has the potential to be a 15-10 player, but it will be tough to get that given his lack of minutes. Maybe the new deal will force Nelly to give him more burn.
Monta Ellis- By far the biggest question mark on the squad. No one is sure how much time he will miss, and if the Warriors are horrible, the organization may not rush him back. On the other hand, if the Dubs are competitive, his return may spark the team like J-Rich’s return against Memphis in ’06 did.
Al Harrington- Although there is much clamoring to trade Al, it is unfair to evaluate him on his poor 08, although it is also unfair to evaluate him on his crazy good ‘07. He’ll probably fall somewhere in the middle.
Stephen Jackson- I truly believe the Captain is ready for an amazing year. Henry Abbott of True Hoop said that if Jack shoots enough (he probably will) early in the season, then he may end up in the MVP conversation. Either way, the Jack contract negotiations are going to be entertaining, as he will likely ally himself with Robert Rowell.
Corey Maggette- Maggette is likely to see a huge boost in his scoring, going to the up-tempo Warriors. Hopefully he can make the Yay seem like a Free Agent friendly place!!!
Anthony Randolph- If the preseason is any indication (it usually isn’t) AR IS A BEAST!! He is agressive on both ends of the floor and has appeared to have made himself Bakersfield proof.
CJ Watson- Watson appears to be Don Nelson’s choice at PG. His experience in the system and pass-first mentality have given him the temporary edge over….
Marcus Williams (aka The Computer Copper)- The Laptop Larcenist showed up to camp overweight and quickly lost his job to Watson, not sure what he can contribute at this point.
Brandon Wright- Wright appears to be in second place in the Battle for Minutes Between Two Thin Athletic Power Forwards. Unfortunately, there are only two contestents in the contest, and the loser may end up Jammin’ in ‘08-’09. Sorry Brandon.
2008-2009 Warriors
I have seen numerous team previews for the Warriors. Everyone mentions the departure of Baron and the addition of Maggette. Everyone mentions how Ellis’ injury will eliminate the Warriors from playoff contention this year. As hard it is to agree with that, I have to disagree.
Jackson and Maggette will both average over 20 a game and will be doing the bulk of the scoring. Biedrins will get his 15 and 10 a game. I also don’t believe there will be a problem at the point guard position since the ball will be in Jackson and Maggette’s hands most of the time. The Warriors will be on the fast break more than ever. The team is deeper this year so I see them subbing in and out a lot more than in past years.
The Warrior’s success lies in the hands of Al Harrington. If he can have a breakout season, average 15-18 ppg and 8 rebounds a game we should be looking at a record over .500 before Ellis comes back. I can’t help but compare David West to Harrington. They have similar body types and can both shoot. West is more physical, which is what Harrington needs to do. Wright will come along just fine but I’m not expecting too much from him in his second year. We will all find out how much of a BUST Belinelli is. I just don’t see him being productive enough to have a spot in the rotation. Turiaf will bring energy and passion to each and every game and will become a fan favorite. Lastly, I hate to say it but Randolph won’t get much burn. I would love to see Nelson give this potentially great rookie a chance, but we all know how much he plays his rookies.
Speaking of Nelson, everyone knows he thrives when he is the underdog and he will find a way to win even without Baron Davis. The western conference is as deep as last year; it is gonna be no easy task to make the playoffs this season, but as long as we win the games we should (T-Wolves, Charlotte, etc.) we will be okay. With Warriors fans uniting together fighting together for one common goal, I know our beloved Warriors will not let us down.
Prediction: 28-13 at home
22-19 on road
Record: 50-32
3rd in Pacific Division, 8th in Western Conference
We Believe 2.0 starts now…
We Belieview
Yo what’s up all? This is your boy Brandan Wright here to give you a We Belieview of your Unstoppable (Baby!) Crew, THE Golden – State – WARRRRRRRRRRIORSSSSSSSSS. We got back from China, you all saw what my boy Rob Kurz did to the Bucks! So we got to come home on a happy note.
Allow me to tell you how it’s going down this season; this isn’t John Hollinger crunching numbers in his mom’s basement. This isn’t Marc (Cal State Homerton) Stein throwing out hyperbole. This is coming from the inside; out.
First of all, let’s get this out of the way. Yes Baron dipped down South. Yes Monta signed his contract and then endured a series of unfortunate events featuring a moped. But we’re putting that behind us, we’re the Warriors, we FIGHT through adversity, we get it done even when things don’t go our way! So, in the wake of these dark moments our two bright lights emerge. For all you fantasy junkies out there, be sure to lock up Maggette and Jackson this season because they are going to be GUNNIN’. Nelson has given them the green light, so expect strong drives from Mags and lots of on-target long bombs from S-Jax. The Latvian Monster, the Beast from the Far East, Mr. Muh-Gel-in-my-hair, Andris Biedrins IS going to lead the league in FG%, and he’s going to be throwing up bigger and better numbers. The over/under in the locker room is 18 and 10. I’m going with even money but, hey, I like to play it safe.
A lot of people are stuck on this whole no point guard thing. Look, there’s a reason Don has the second most career wins in the history of the NBA, the man just knows how to win basketball games. No point guard? No problem. Whoever’s got the rock is running with it. You can’t handle the French Frenzy on the break! You can’t handle Ronny running at you full speed with the coast-to-coast-and-one-JAM! That’s how we’re going to be doing it this season; point guard by committee.
Now keep your eyes peeled and your ears perked up..I’m talking B-Wright perked. Coming down the homestretch, and gearing up for this season, let this 6’10 205lb PF break you down with some GUARAN-SHEEDS:
- A Marco sighting. Yes, in a game.
- DeMarcus Nelson bashing on more than one big man’s head.
- Maggette averaging 8 FTA per game
- Turiaf winning over the crowd. Forreal it’s hard not to like this guy, plus he’s got that hyphy movement.
- Me riding the bench behind Anthony Randolph.
If we’re around .500 by the time Ellis gets back and gets all the cobwebs shook off his game, we will compete for a playoff spot. I’ll level with y’all, because I like you guys…I really do. We’re looking at 41-45 wins this year. That might not get it done; we may miss out on the big dance this year. But hey, we all waited 12 long ones for our last appearance; our patience is tried and true. So stay tuned Bay Area Ballers, it’s going to be a crazy year, the only way we know how to give it to you. Keep it unstoppable…One Dub! HOLLA AT ME ON FACEBOOK!!!11

Skeptic, that’s some serous animosity. Was that directed at me? Or at my fictional depiction of Brandan Wright?

Sorry for being 2 hours late
I only found out about this chance to win free tickets today when I logged on and haven’t had the time to write anything down. Anyway, from what I have seen from the preseason, I must say we need a lot of work, especially from the point guard position (yes I know you’ve all heard it already). But really, we need a solid point guard to guide this team through fast breaks, as well as when we’re stuck in a half court game. Without a solid point, we’re pretty much screwed in the half-court game, because we really have no one to direct everyone on where they’re supposed to be. As much as I hate to say it, really no one can replace what B-Diddy did for us. He could create for others and even himself, and in times of need, he could completely take the game over all by himself. I really don’t see Monta being the point and dishing out to others. He’s a scorer and that should be his priority.
Speaking of Monta, sorry to say it, but his injury could really cost us another playoff berth. I really hope they do, but let’s face it, he won’t be coming back till at least January. That’s like half the season already. In order to keep those playoff hopes alive, we’re gonna have to see a lot more from Al Harrington. I heard he has lot some weight is is more mobile. He has to be more assertive inside and hit the boards a lot harder in order for this team to be more successful. Captain Jack is gonna do waht he does, I just hope he knows when to hold those threes a little when he’s having an off night. Andris as well is going to do what he does. They might need him to score a little more than last year and he definitely needs to work on his free throws. As for Maggette, I like what I have seen so far in the preseason. He can score, he’s tough, and he gets to the line frequently. Even though the the Dubs are a running team, Maggette’s presence at the foul line do have it’s benefits: The other teams piles up on fouls, Maggette scores more, and it gives the rest of the team some time to rest without having to waste too many time-outs. Kelenna should have another solid year and they are going to expect a lot more from him this year to help out with the scoring.
As for our young guys, I really like what I saw from Anthony Randolph during the preseason. He was really aggressive and he played like he’s been in the league for a couple of years. I love how he can handle the ball and create for himself in a relaxed manner, although I really have no idea how much PT he’s going to have this year, considering Coach Nelson hates playing his rookies. With one year under their wings, I expect Belinelli and Wright to play more and produce more than they did last year. Wright is definitely behind Randolph in Coach Nelson’s eyes, but I really do think they play different styles. If Randolph could develop an outside shot, I could see him as a 3 or 4. Wright could be a pure 4 if he bulks up. As for Belinelli, I hope he has been working on his shot so he could be a little more consistent during game time. They might even need him to play some point so his handles and dimes better be on point.
Overall, I’m very excited for the upcoming season. The West is STACKED like always and it’s going to be hard for the dubs to make the playoffs, but hey, gotta BELIEVE right? Even with the loss of B-DIDDY, the Dubs have a lot more depth and still are able to run and gun like they’re used to. When Monta gets back from his injury and eventually gets back to 100%, I’m very optimistic on what the Dubs can pull off. Anyway, sorry for being late and I hope you can still consider this for the contest….As always, GO DUBS!!!!!!!
