Very Troubling Report - Monta To Miss Entire Season/Contract Voided?

I came across this report reading Geoff Lepper's blog 48minutes.net (a must read blog for warrior fans).  He points to a report from hoopsworld.com claiming that Monta Ellis may miss the entire season.  Bill Ingram from Hoopsworld goes on to state that if Ellis were to miss the season, the Warriors would consider voiding his contract all together.  Does anyone have any input on this or know how much truth this rumor carries?  Pree, are you around to give us some insight on what you are hearing?   This is a disaster if true.

Here's an excerpt from Ingram's report.

"In the wake of the news that the Golden State Warriors have suspended Monta Ellis for the moped accident that violated his NBA contract and put the guard out of actions for months, we now have reports coming out that suggest the injury might cause Ellis to miss the entire season. Further, if that is the case, the Warriors will consider negating Ellis' brand new contract altogther, which is their right under the Collective Bargaining Agreement."

well

jack said monta was already ahead of schedule… and i believe him. If Rowell believed that Monta would miss the whole year he would have voided his contract already. The fact that Rowell only fined monta around 3 million shows that based on doctor’s evaluation monta will be back in time.

yeah

stack jack said monta was already riding the bike and ahead of schedule.

Showing up for workout in shorts and standing without

his scooter… and exploding off the dribble for 20 plus are two different pay grades.

All options are on the table.

Are you kidding me

If this crap is true I’ll be so freakin sad. I doubt monta won’t be back by January, but come on. The last post we need is about Monta not playing. We get he’s injured, let it play out. I don’t need to here negative theories from outside sources.

f that

if monta is gone. i dont think ill be a warriors fan anymore. they make too many stupid decisions over my lifetime.

Ok...

so your gonna stop being a Warriors fan because a promising young player made a stupid mistake, that the organization had no way of stopping? Cool.

i read some report

which said that some doctors deemed his 3-4 month recovery time as a “conservative estimate”. who knows if that guy knew what he was talking about, but for the sake of optimism, i’ll choose to believe the doctor and not this hoopsworld report…

even if monta is out the entire year it would be suicide for the warriors to void his contract.
i would lose faith in the cognitive abilities of the human race if his contact was voided

I think it’s fair to void his contract to renegotiate it if he misses a whole year. What do should they do? Suspend him for the whole season instead? He shouldn’t get paid for NOT playing and the Warriors should consider the long term effects (if any) of Monta’s injury.

by scottiepimppen on Oct 19, 2008 2:05 PM PDT up reply actions

it would business suicide to terminate such a lucrative contract. no agent would ever encourage a player to join this team. as far as I know monta ellis would become an unrestricted free agent, why the hell would he want to stay on this team when any team around the league will gladly pay him comparable money and treat him better?

perhaps not

Maggs signed after the Dubs pulled a reasonable deal for Baron off the table

my guess is most agents are using Monta’s goof as a lesson for their clients on how NOT to screw up a perfectly good gig

we’ve had to overpay for FA’s all along, ala Fisher, don’t think Monta’s issue will impact that nearly as much and certainly no more than our perpetual losing does

Well if this is true,

it’s bad news for my favorite NBA team, and my fantasy team =[

why would they give away

another future superstar? stupid….stupid………………………………………………………………………

The warriors

would definatley not void his contract. But look at the bright side if he does have to sit out for a season he with get a FULL recovery just like greg oden.

spinning wildly

there’s nothing really new in all the variations of the Monta story – GSW docked him for breaking a term of his contract, and have the option of terminating it. Same as they did when the matter was resolved before. Noth’n’s changed. If he doesn’t come back (unlikely but possible) and the team was still paying him Foylesquely you’d all be screaming bloody murder … all the hand-wringing isn’t productive – believe what you want from (a) doctors who never examined him (b) teammates who don’t know anything about medicine ( c ) sports writers looking for yet another angle to write yet another meaningless column to fill time between meaningless preseason games and the real deal (d) or team reps like Nelson, Mullin, etc. who’ve been pretty damn quiet lately. Was it really only a bit ago we were aglow over upsetting the Mavs and being poised to get into the WCF? Things can change quickly, either way. Witness Blazers. A year from now Al and Jax could be gone, and we could be looking at a pretty young and fresh squad – hopefully with Monta.

Did you really just compare Jason Richardson to Babe Ruth?

I’m not even going to touch that. You’re ridiculous.

I hate Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappelle, and Russel Peters because they make fun of white people like me. They also make fun of other kinds of people, which hurts me deep down because my ancestry is so mixed that I don't know what my official "race" is... so I get offended for all races!

Does nobody do any fact checking here?

The first instance of this was some Kings blogger (probably hoping Monta would become a King). This instance cites “reports coming out” (from who? Other bloggers?) without substantiating anything. If anybody hears something official from the Warriors, Ellis, or his agent, let me know. But until then, stop perpetuating the blog echo. I can find some conspiracy theorist blogging about how Dubya is gonna suspend the election if it looks like the Republicans aren’t going to win, but does that make it real?
