Anthony Randolph's blocks in China? Does anyone care?

Its true I'm a brand new member of GSOM and this is my first post, but I'm surprised no one has posted a thread for member comments about each of the first few preseason games.

Last night produced a fairly exciting game with a few typical highlights here and there (and of course the game winner from Kurz), but did anyone witness a flash of "The Future Anthony Randolph?" This guy was defending the rim with tenacity! Three studly blocks and a sweet alley-oop off a missed shot.  The potential this guy shows makes me feel giddy inside. Once he figures out the NBA game, theres no reason why AR shouldn't be one of the most exciting players in the NBA (especially because he's playing on the uptempo Dubs).

Am I silly for being so excited over a turnover prone, lanky, skin n boned, rookie?

Its a preview

We needed a little recap not based on the preview. AR can’t shoot a lick?… who cares. Do we really need that right now??? NO! We need to know this guy has potential to be the future. Not as a one dimensional player (aka Bellinelli), but as a stud for the future.

Guy can jump, block, dunk… uh.. give him a break.

How many studs athletic rookie freaks can shoot when they enter the league. None. Look at Kobe.

I think you had a great post

welcome to gsom, man, i m new on this handle im new myself. anyway as long as you dont have a ridicuoluos trade rumor that brings d wade to the bay, i think its a quality fan post…..

come on

those couple weeks this summer with nothing but trade proposals were fantastic. i can’t believe you would even say such a thing.

let’s get the ball back rolling: d-wade for al harrington, marco belinelli and richard hendrix. it gives miami the toughness they need in hendrix, and a couple of great shooters (something they are sorely lacking). plus, they’re going to lose wade to free agency and they’’ll need to unload him. it’s a risky deal for us for that reason and his injuries, but i think i’d pull the trigger on that one.

uh... looks like you missed the point

i meant it as something to add to your list of negatives

turnover prone, lanky, skin n boned, rookie?

not as an overly harsh criticism of his game.

but

AR can’t shoot a lick?… who cares.

? i’m thinking most of warrior nation cares.

by the evil monkey on Oct 19, 2008 11:56 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

even if AR can't shoot...

we need him to run up and down the court, dunk a few balls, swat 2 or 3 shots a game, but most importantly, make the opposing offense always worry about maybe getting swatted by AR…

Does he

kind of remind you of a Josh Smith who actually tries?

Except with a few pounds less?

Probably. The kid might not be too bright , his attitude is way too much considering his mediocre college game. If he can learn to recognize his true talents he’ll be better able to be a productive NBA player.

How do you know

How bright he is? Did you go to class with him? So having confidece in your abilities makes you dump, interesting. If were talking about not being too bright just look at Monta, thats being not bright.

Or you can look at my spelling of dumb

With me spelling it dump, now thats not too bright.

actually, it was more interesting with “makes you dump” – imagine there will be plenty of moments when this organization makes us all feel like taking a dump this season!

not to bright???

he still young, if you looking for the dumbass of the team. Don’t looks too hard, we got monta and action jackson. who the hell get injuried riding a moped? Well that cost him 3 millions this upcoming season. Action Jackson stupid ass jumped into the crowds and helps ron ron knock out the wrong dood. lol that fight was entertaining thou. We all knew Ron Ron got an anger problem, but at least he isn’t stupid. The dood has a BA degree in Math. Back to us, people makes mistakes, but at least AR won’t starts shit at the club like Action Jackson.

having confidece in your abilities makes you dump

Guess it could make him dump too if he dwells on it too long.
Is it confidence or inability to recognize what he did in college compared to the really excellent players that came out of the last draft? Most guys his height don’t focus on small men skills but play to their body type strengths, is that from confidence or intelligence?

This kid is crazy

His presence on the court was great, he ran the floor well and played really good defense. He had some pretty impressive rebounds too, usually I don’t really get amazed by how a guy looks when he rebounds.

I love his potential too. The athleticism is there, his blocks were Camby/Mutombo-esque. I’m hoping that this upcoming season will give him a lot of motivation for the 2009-2010 season. Depending on his playing time this upcoming season, he’ll either be bad or average; what i’m looking forward to is him getting sparked up and starting to work hard on his shooting. Hopefully there will be some point in this season where he’ll think to himself and say, “Damn, I got all these skills but I need to work on my shot”. Kind of like how Dirk and Kobe started off in their rookie years, and then improved their way into being more complete players capable of hitting great shots.

I love AR

his athletisism is off the charts. Who else on the team can reject shots 40ft to half court that starts up the fast break for an easy Maggette dunk. Ws need the attitude & energy he brings. He’s a rookie & it’s preseason so overlook the turnovers & bad jump shots. AR is not a finished product now. But it’s sure makes for an interesting topic 3-5 years from now what his game will look like. Remember how skinny KG was as a rook out of high school in 1995. Ws went conservative for Joe Smith. Look at the huge upside & what the possible big picture will look like down the line!!!
lineup in 3 years 2011
1 Ellis
2 ???
3 Maggette
4 AR
5 Biedrins

maybe Wright @ 4
maybe Azibuike is 6 man or 2 guard depending on development
D Nelson backup point defensive stopper
Morrow 3pt specialist

by montazing on Oct 20, 2008 7:21 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

another possible lineup in 2011

1 monta
2 maggette
3 randolph
4 ???
5 biedrins

if randolph can develop a good perimeter game, he can be a huge matchup problem at small forward, and he has the handles to do it at this point, we just need to get the man a jumpshot. i see the hole on the team at the 4. it could be wright if he can become a more well rounded offensive player, but if he doesn’t work on that, we’re playing 4 on 5 on offense with biedrins and wright sitting under the basket waiting for second chance points.

i’d take a shot at that earl clarke kid out in louisville in the draft (i really like his game, but haven’t seen enough to make a legitimate judgment, so if someone knows more, let me know) or look into a scoring 4 via free agency. obviously, it’s better if wright becomes that guy, but i think a reasonable guess for his ideal role is a 6 or 7th man who provides energy, speed, defense off the bench.

also, i think you’re a bit too optimistic about morrow and nelson. i like nelson, but i’m not sure we can count on him to be a key contributor on the team in 3 years, maybe, maybe not. and morrow, well, he might not be on the team for opening night of THIS year. let’s hold off on saying he’ll be here in 3 years.

Getting back in shape, I see...

Practicing beating down excitement of the overly optimistic homers.

I hate Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappelle, and Russel Peters because they make fun of white people like me. They also make fun of other kinds of people, which hurts me deep down because my ancestry is so mixed that I don't know what my official "race" is... so I get offended for all races!
