It's official: DeMarcus Nelson to start at PG

OAKLAND — Coach Don Nelson said from the outset of training camp that the Warriors’ point-guard job was C.J. Watson’s to lose.
Consider it officially lost.
Nelson confirmed Monday what had been obviously building over the past 10 days: DeMarcus Nelson will complete his local-boy-makes-good story by opening opposite Chris Paul when the Warriors tip off for real on Oct. 29.

i dunnno
if this is a good thing or a bad thing. On one hand having a rookie be our pg is a recipe for disaster… on the other hand we might be headed to a better lottery pick.
Nellie can always change his mind
The question becomes, who is the 2nd pg? CJ or Williams? I think we all agree CJ is decent enough, but not a starter (yet).
well, direct quote
C.J. Watson appears to be Nelson’s backup with Williams lingering in third.
can’t say i’m surprised. have league pass and saw marcus williams on the nets. didn’t know about the hype coming out of college regarding him being the next mark jackson. so my initial reaction was why’d we trade for that scrub?
i was hopeful b/c he supposedly lost weight that he would be less slow, but it doesn’t appear that that is the case.

IHMO
D. Nelson III has been the best PG in camp. CJ seems to be a better scorer, but I think Nelson has better court vision and more aggressive taking it to the hoop!
Glad to see a Bay Area product, play for a Bay Area team. Hope he succeeds!
If only Leon Powe...
anyone else from tech go on this site?
If I am wrong i will respond with a D'Oh
talk about dream come true
To not getting drafted to getting picked up by his favorite team in the nba to starting and playing his first regular season game against one of the most promising point guards in history… I hope he locks him down and gets a few strips… that’s all i’m asking :)
why not
realistically, the w’s are going to be hard pressed to make the playoffs. we know what cj is and where his strengths lie – shooting open jumpers and playing passing lanes.
anyone with league pass knows Rod Thorn pretty much hoodwinked Mullin on Marcus Williams.
might as well see if demarcus can develop into a good defensive minded back up point guard for the future.

wow!
demarcus! he was really struggling early but he has definitely picked it up as of late. I think CJ is a proficient ball handler and will get plenty of minutes.
Great for DeMarcus, but...
I think the spot will be won and lost all year long. Nellie loves to change up the lineups each night anyway, so I wouldn’t get too attached to any certain PG starting consistently, at least for long periods of time.
Plus, it’s completely up for grabs in Dec/Jan when Monta comes back and we have 3 shooting guards starting (Bullet, C-Mag, and Jax).
Whoever starts out of these three PGs, come spring semester, they’ll all be starting on the bench. Good luck to ya tho, DeMarcus!
I know you heard me say this before...
there are still trades on the table tht need to wipe themselves off the board.

Hard to argue against this, as Nelson clearly played the best of them all in the preseason games. Also, if Nelson keeps playing like this, he might be a perfect compliment to monta when monta plays the 2: he’s big enough to guard 2’s.
Adoptive Parent of Francisco Peguero. He can throw, he can run, he can hit(fastballs), and he's Dominican. What else do you need to know?
I'm just saying...

One guy that I think we should take a serious look at as a backup for Baron is DeMarcus Nelson from Duke. He is strong and super athletic and will most likely be available for us to take in the late second round. Doesn’t have the geratest handles (they’re adequate) or Ast/TO ratio but give him a few years studying under Baron, and I think this part of his game will improve (see Monta Ellis). The best part of his game is that he is extremely quick and knows how to get to the rim and finish. He’s also got a pretty decent jumper with range to about 20 feet.

Rowell & Co… I’ll be waiting for your call. VP of Player Personnel has a nice ring to it.

Quick Thoughts on Demarc
Although, I’ve only seen him a couple of times in the summer league/preseason, i’ve seen over 50 games of him as a duke blue devil, including about 30 games live. here’s what bothers me:
He is not a great passer. if he drives to the hoop, he is putting the ball up, for better or for worse. he is a behemoth of a PG, especially with his reach, so it might not matter cuz he’ll muscle his way through, but he is not built to run an offense (with paulus’ struggles at duke, scheyer handled the ball more than demarc).
He is a fantastic defender though, and could just be in there to keep the opposing PG from dicin us up like last year when baron loafed it on the defensive end.
Also, he is a terrible FT shooter, but has decent range. so, what may end up happening is many drives to the bucket with no kickouts and one of hte following three results:
1. And1
2. two missed FT’s
3. offensive foul
Props to Nelly
I thought that CJ would be a shoo-in for the starting job, and this whole PG Battle was just a bunch of hype. But once again, Nelly is showing us why he has balls of steel and will just play the best players out there.
As for DeMarcus, thats mos def +1 for the YAY!!
yes
to VALLEJO! and hes not really a rookie he did play 4 years of college. and usually those guys play much better than their one year or highschool predecessors
So I don't have a signature well these words would do! Who knew that upgrades can have downgrades too!
