What really happened with Baron?

I haven't heard to much about why Baron really left.  I understand he is from LA and into making the movies, so I see that angle.  But, RealGm has Baron saying he felt lied to and he totally expected to come back to the Bay.  He also mentions that he felt Warrior management felt they had to go in a different direction.  I'm having trouble figuring out what that direction is exactly?  Is it Monta at the 1?  Because I'm not sure I would give up a superstar like Baron Davis to experiment with Monta at the 1.  Or did management just want to clear the books to make a run at free agency these next few years and build around Ellis, Biedrins, Randolph, and Wright?  I'm not sure, it just doesn't make much sense to me to not want to resign your marquee player.  The Warriors don't get to the Playoffs much, much less the Semis, and with the decline of the Mavs and Suns imminent, the Warriors had a few more years if they could have held on to Baron.

I know I may be exhausting this point, but this article got me thinking again.  Just wanted to get some opinions on the issue as to what actually happened between Baron and management, and if management truly did not want to resign Baron, then is there a real problem with Warrior management and are they truly committed to winning?

Here is the RealGM article

you have heard about all the drama

lately with how Baron agreed to a deal with Mullin and then Rowell came in and said nope sorry. It has been the biggest story here the last couple weeks.

who the fuck

cares. i would have cared about 5 months ago.

um

lets see Baron=lots of money, Baron = hurt alot, but hurt alot+ lots of money does not equal management wanting him. Come on this organization does not know what to do with money they need to hire an accountant and a manager to figure this out. oh well thats what being a warrior fan is like.

So I don't have a signature well these words would do! Who knew that upgrades can have downgrades too!

Davis was nice but...

… He hasnt even scored a regular season point in LA and is already hurt. He plays 82 games in a contract year? Coincidence? Its dirty!

Lets Get Real

Baron will be missed and if what Baron is saying is true, especially with Monte’s poor decision making and Nelson leaving after this year, this team could be a tailspin for a long time. I’ve been a W’s fan forever and even though I like parts of this team, I know how tough the West is and that we will struggle this year. Lets just hope the struggle leads to high draft picks that meet their potential.

This year's draft..

is terrible. If we were going to tank it would be last year. At any rate this team is fine. Its got so much talent, Portland called and wanted its mojo back.

What I have an issue with is the coaching right now. It seems like sometimes you can get more consistency out of Courtney Love. Terrible.

Low expectations

The management doesn’t want to get our hopes up. That’s also why they got rid of JRich. If they look like they are trying to win then they won’t have an excuse to fail, now they can just putter along and say oh we’ve only got some rookies and 2nd tier players so we’re doing great to be at .500 Boom and Jason made us feel like we deserved to win and that was too much pressure for mullin and nelson who like to play the underdog part to the max.

J-Rich...

was a dark day in Warriors history as far as I am concerned. That dude brung it every night. Unfortunately we drafted a moped happy guy by the name of Monta, who just was way too good to keep on the bench…

The West is just rough, even if you’re good, you are in 9th place.. You have to be GREAT.

by sjboy on Oct 23, 2008 11:53 AM PDT up reply actions

I agree

He was the strongest heart and soul of our team

by Foulacy on Oct 23, 2008 12:35 PM PDT up reply actions

well

it did not help that his other go to options went by the name of dunleavy, dampier, foyle (sorry zorgon) and a whole bunch of other players that were not so good. Even jordan had bad years when he had nobody i.e his rookie year and with the wizards. If he was on the team now though he would of helped alot but oh well that was than. at least we got anthony freaking randolph now

The dude whos up 30 minutes before tip off of the most important game of the year and then goes out

and scores 3 f’n points. He couldn;t dribble or defend. That is bringign it every night? JRich is definitly 1st string all overrated team!

LISTEN UP, i just read the brief GQ interview, this is what baron said

“you want to feel you’re wanted (italicized). the warriors never put an offer on the table. which sucks, because they offered everybody else the world.”

was it hard to leave the bay?

“it still hurts. it’s been sorta like being with a girl and the parents break you up.”
