Warriors Open Practice 10/26

Hey Everyone!

Sorry to create a fanpost just for this but I live in Brazil and this year the media coverage for the Warriors annual Open Practice was minimal. They just said that the Blue Team won by 91-73 and that Jackson had a monster jam on AR. Besides that, no more news, pictures, videos or anything. So I created this fan post to ask all GSOM members that went to the Open Practice to post their insights, pictures and videos. It would be great!! Thanks in advance!

Faetati

marcus williams had a really good game. twenty something points, he hit a few jumpshots and threes and had some pretty good passes. harrington did nice as well as jack, but thats expected. maggette didnt play and showed up in street clothes 15 minutes after the introductions. bwright and cj didnt play either. turiaf was shooting the ball a little more than usual but the shots werent falling. azubuike was dominant in the first quarter with plenty of dunks but didnt really show in the second half.

overall, the game was pretty good from what i saw, im excited for whats to come this season.

i like this line

"many of the 5,000 in attendance welcomed the injured guard with a standing ovation. "

keyword being MANY… lol.

ive been to 3 straight open practices so far

and this one definitely had a different feel. People needed to be prodded to cheer, majority of the time people were quiet. I guess it doesnt help when you seat beside 2 guys who had no idea that Baron has moved to the clips, the other guy wanted to cut “#21”, and had no idea Monta was injured. At least nellie entered the court with 2 thumbs up….

Where was Pietrus? Wasnt he supposed to be by the entrance by the Team store giving high fives?

Where was Zarko and Andris welcoming people to the arena?

Even the traditional rookie dance was horrible, entertainment value -0.

Other troubling signs:

- Jackson is definitely the best player on the court, you have to wonder what will happen to the team if Kobe or bowen or Artest locks him down.

- Morrow has lost confidence in his shot/himself.

- Harrington is back to those top of the key crossover moves, trying to break down a defender instead of playing back to the basket where he doesnt have to worry about a defense entirely collapsing on him. We’ve seen this before where he would break someone down, then finishing like a schoolgirl…

- Corey Maggette coming late? On his 1st oportunity to connect with fans?

- Too much dribbling from Marcus Williams

POSITIVES (ugh)

- Hendrix is a bruiser

- randolph might be something (at least with the intensity he shows on the court)

- Buike can play and needs to be on the court

I never thought i’d ever say this but not only that we need a Point guard among other things, but we need to replace Thunder ASAP. there were a bunch of 5-7 yr old behind me and there’s nothing there to keep them occupied…Thunder does add to the overall experience of being at the arena, at least for kids.

Me Too Vonteego!

Pretty much agree with everything you said!

I think we saw a “little” of what Williams might be able to produce. Demarcus looks great, AR, despite getting “schooled” by Stack (which was nasty) :) looked damn good, I think once he realises that he needs to sharpen up his “D” he is going to be very good.

Hendrix could just be the man to remove the threat of a “Boozer” type of player.

But most importantly, I felt today’s event was a giant “FAIL”.

The atmosphere was poor, I believe mainly due to the “herding” of where people could sit and when you wanted to get near the front…..“sorry those are reserved” “but there is no one sitting there and we are almost at the end of the first half?”…“they are reserved”.

In short I found many of the staff near the floor to be quite offhand.

I am damn sure Stack could sense the lack of Oooomph from the crowd which is why he tried to pump it up a bit at the end, but they could have used this as a real opportunty for people to get near the guys, do lots of autographs, etc etc. But yet again at the end afte the really pathetic “rookie routine” yet again, they were off like a shot down the tunnel.

The lack of people singing Happy Birthday to Monta said it all to me. Hopefully it sad all that needed to be said to Monta as to how badly he has let people down.

I think it is fair to say that most season ticket holders feel slightly “short changed” right now and the organisation could really use a kick in the jacksy to start to get people a little more “fevered” about the coming season.

Massive hike in prices yet no “Season Ticket Holder” pre-season event? way to go marketing department.

I have said it before and I will say it again, the Warriors marketing department could use a refresh as they are curretly missing opportunities left right and center.

However all is moot and I am looking forward to Wednesday, but if I have to stand in line for a freakin Hotdog for a whole quarter am I going to turn green and rip my shirt off!

Go Warriors – Go Rookies – Go Young Guns – Let the Underdogs Loose!

open practice

Faetati,

I took a whole bunch of pictures and some video clips. I haven’t been able to upload them to my computer yet, but once I do I’ll be sure to post a link.

I’ll do a quick player recap (my opinions)

Marcus SUCKED in the beginning, then in the 3rd quarter his shots started to fall… He can definitely get his own shot, but he is not what we want in a PG right now.

D. Nelson is the real deal. He plays hard, he can get to the hoop, and he’s a really a great defender.

Jackson is definitely the best player on the team. He pretty much had his way… He’s a very charismatic person from what I can tell… AS far as Jackson playing the “1”… Its an option, but he’s not the solution…

Harrington was ok… Nothing really OOO’ed and Ahhhh’ed me from his play.

Marco missed a few shots, but when he hit his shots, it went “swoosh” He wasn’t really a game changer.

Hendrix takes up space and he fights for the rebound. If he can continue to grow and learn he’s going to be pretty good. I just wish more of his shots went in…

Andris’ free throw position looks soooo much better! There is a bit of an arc to his shot now… Still a weird form, but much improved… He’s going to be really good this year.

Azubuike showed off his athleticism… He can block shots, dunk, rebound and drive to the hoop… He has much improved from last season. He’s going to have to be productive for this team to stay afloat… He’s the X-Factor in my opinion.

Morrow has a great looking shot. In my mind he is a better shooter than Marco.

Kurz was pretty much non-existent in the game…

Ronny was and looked tough, but his shots weren’t falling.

Randolph is going to be really really good some day. I finally know what people mean when they say he’s got that quiet confidence about him…

MONTA showed up!! Corey Maggette came in late and wasn’t introduced to the fans. CJ practiced before the scrimmage began, but he didn’t play in the actual game… CJ is much smaller than I thought… He is the warriors best PG option along with D. Nelson. B. Wright didn’t play.

I think I covered all the players…

Rookie dance was weak… One more tidbit, Monta didn’t look too happy being serenaded “happy birthday” by the rookies. haha =)

AR

showed alot of athleticism and he also showed that he may not have a lot of meat on his bones but he can still truck someone like harrington lol

we gon' make 'em run, make 'em follow the lead
nelly on the side lines with tricks up his sleeve
in the bay, we go hard cause we playin' for passion
you know who it is, aint no need for askin'

uh

I’ve passed up lots of things to watch the Warriors. Dont even try to talk sense into me, I bleed Warriors. So even if I fight it, I lose.

Im an addict with no cure, no rehab. If Thunder was a woman, I’d bang her. Following me? Brazil is nice ( I am Portuguese ) but all the chocha in the world can’t match Warriors intensity, because atleast Warriors cant give me syphillis!

by sjboy on Oct 27, 2008 3:55 PM PDT up reply actions

Dude...

I dont even know where to start… hahahah you really made me laugh!
I live in Brazil but I go to the states many times a year, since i was a baby, so I know America and the culture there very very well. I HATE Carnival, I wish you could come here and see it yourself… it´s like the worst thing in the world. I am married so no babes for me…
And yes like sjboy said, I live Warriors basketball for more than 10 years now. I have the only fan site in the world about Mookie Blaylock… and he is retired since 01!
I have a Warriors logo tattoo on my arm and a spider web tattoo on my elboy just like the one Matt Barnes has.
So I think I can say that yeah… I live in Brazil but I hate everything from here and that I am a true Warriors fan…
But you know what, I liked what you said, it was really funny! =)

How about you recommend some good Jobim albums for me? I love every track on Elis & Tom…know any other good Elis Regina stuff? Her voice makes me melt, and Portuguese is the most beautiful language I’ve ever heard. I try to sing along with Aguas De Marco but it’s tough…

But seriously, Aguas De Marco is amazing! I don’t know much else about Brazilian music, but I swear that song is near the top of my list. And I’m not crazy…well, maybe, but not because of my opinion of that song/record…
