Golden State: 110 Portland: 95... are they good?

What do you guys think?  Will they be better than last?  Too early to say?  By the way, thanks for the link... it was pretty cool to watch 'em play on my laptop.  Well, I just think that this team will be better than last.  It looks like the second stringers will be just fine this year.  Brandon played really well on this game... so that's very encouraging.  So, I really think the DUBS will just be fine without Davis.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

hard to say

we were still stagnant on offense and defense many times. It really depends how quick Monta gets back, and how the point guard situation works out long term. One thing we definetly have more of is depth.

by bayareaballa on Oct 8, 2008 9:50 PM PDT   0 recs

lol

ur basing ur opinion off a pre season game in which brandon roy didn’t play? and travis outlaw shot 1-12?

by saintdee on Oct 8, 2008 9:51 PM PDT   0 recs

actually I am NOT basing it on this pre-season games...

I’ve said it in the past, I just think this particular WARRIORS have better talents than last. And I really DO believe that they will be better than last.

by Misternightrod on Oct 8, 2008 9:59 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Saintdee... your a piece of work!

Ya and we didnt have Monta, and it was in their house and we keicked their asses by 15.

by smearthebeard on Oct 8, 2008 10:35 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Monta Ellis doesn't cancel out the Blazers not having Brandon Roy (All Star unlike Monta), Steve Blake, Martell Webster, Channing Frye. Then on top of that

Oden and Alridge played limited minutes. Oden and Aldridge didn’t even play the 4th quarter. The game was close too all the way up until that point. So great way to spin it for you that you guys were with out Monta..LMAO. Warriors beat the Blazers second team on a night were Outlaw struggled and we turned it over like 28 times. LMAO.

of course the blazers are better than the warriors. no contest.

hey. remember last years preseason game against the lakers when troy hudson hit the buzzer beater?

that could have happened twice in the regular season.

i like your optimisim but...

we only won by 5 in a pre season game. OH AND BTW THE WAY BRANDON ROY IS ONE OF THE MOST OVERRATED PLAYERS IN THE LEAGUE

by gswLLBatman on Oct 8, 2008 9:56 PM PDT   0 recs

We only won by … 15, right?

by so ill so d0pe on Oct 8, 2008 9:59 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

BRANDON ROY IS ONE OF THE MOST OVERRATED PLAYERS IN THE LEAGUE

Why do you say that? I dont think thats true at all, the guy does a ton of little things. I think he’s still underrated if anything.

by sam23 on Oct 8, 2008 10:21 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

.

I don’t think he’s overrated at all, but I still believe that Baron Davis should have gotten in the All-Star game last season instead of him.

by Five Ten Entertainment on Oct 8, 2008 11:24 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Davis should have gone, but Roy was more than deserving

Davis got snubbed for the guy who had the best game for the west, so its not like he got beat out for some ball hog from a crap team. And Roy is in no way overrated.

by In Walks Rudy on Oct 9, 2008 8:47 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Deron Williams deserved to be in, too

and so did Davis and some others. The choice is not so easy now, with 30 teams, as it was back in the 1960s.

I’d like to see the league award All-Star status to all deserving players each season, with some other criteria used to select a limited number of those players to play in the All-Star game.

So he was deemed an “all-star” but you don’t think he should have made the team (because Baron should have), but you still think hes not overrated? Isn’t that pretty much the definition of being overrated; having certain acclamations that are not deserved?

by ilubthedubs on Oct 9, 2008 11:26 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

wow

Just because a player didn’t make an all-star team, doesn’t mean that he sucks. There a lot of great players that didn’t make the all-star team too, you know.

Brandon Roy is an all-star IMO, I just think that Baron should have gotten in over him. The Warriors had a better record, and Baron is also a veteran player in the league that was having the best season of his career. If Brandon Roy didn’t make the team, people would still call him an all-star regardless, and would be expected to make the team several times in upcoming seasons. To me, it wasn’t a matter of whether or not B-Roy “sucks” or not, it’s just that I feel that he was voted in because the Trailblazers were a “surprise” in the first half of the season.

It’s like, if people already knew that the Blazers would be that good, then the “surprise” factor wouldn’t be there in the voting, and the choice between Baron and Roy would come down to straight statistics (Which Baron probably would have won since he had better stats and a better team).

by Five Ten Entertainment on Oct 9, 2008 5:10 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

On the day that the league voted Roy in

the Blazers had a half-game lead over the Warriors. The Warriors were going up and the Blazers down at that point in the season, but on voting day the Blazers had a better record. The vote might literally have come down to that.

FINALLY SOMEONE SAYS IT

Roy’s barely skated by on a smile his whole career. It’s not like he turned a franchise around or anything. Monta’s on his way to doing just that.

"Lol"?

Are you actually laughing that I made a post about Brandon Roy? Wow, I guess you try to defend Roy at all circumstances no matter what, huh?

Just to clear things up for your hardcore defensive mindset, I never said Brandon was bad. I just felt that Baron could have gotten in instead of him. In no way did I look down on Roy or discredit him, I just made a statement while giving respect to him. You don’t gotta get all “HAHA, you talkin bout my player? You’re teh loser!” on me.

preseason

so far the dubs have played pretty well both games, preseason doesnt mean much but it means a lot more than football preseason. The interesting thing is the depth chart battle, randolph and wright just got interesting with the way bwright played tonight. The battle for starting and back up point is interesting to. Morrow didnt even play tonight was he hurt?? Anyways we will all see how it pans out in 3 weeks!!!!

Depth in the Bench!

Just looking at the box score and comparing it to what we would see last year, everything is much more well dispersed. The longest someone played in this game (KELENNA AZUBUIKE YEEEE <3) was 24 minutes, compared to last year’s 39+ minutes for Cap’n Jack, Monta, and Baron. Whoever got any PT got a pretty decent amount, around 10 minutes and scored SOME amount of points. Most scored around 10 points. It looks so much better than last year, where the big three were playing essentially the whole game for a majority of the games in the season. Because they played so much, they ran out of fuel in the end, w hich is a factor in the lack of a post-season.

It’s hard to tell from just a PRESEASON game but it looks good so far!!

by goldenstatelove on Oct 8, 2008 10:28 PM PDT   0 recs

Shaking my head

Pre-season buddy. Blazers had 3 of their 5 starters out of the game and the Warriors hardly played some of their starters. Knicks were undefeated during the pre-season last year. Pre-season means nothing except to figure out playing time. I’m sure the Blazers and Warriors will be battling it out during the season. Good luck with your season!

BINGO, BANGO, BONGO

Thanks

Great to know that there are some classy Blazers fans out there that don’t get over sensitive.

I’m pretty sure that a majority of the Warriors fans here aren’t getting excited about the win. The guy who made this topic is just one of those that are very optimistic, you know the type. Every team has them.

by Five Ten Entertainment on Oct 9, 2008 5:18 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

whens the last time the warriors held a team under 100 points?!!?

by lowchi on Oct 8, 2008 10:36 PM PDT   0 recs

i know it's a crazy thought

but i think we might be able to hold a team or two under 100 during the regular season too. move over celtics, the warriors are taking the title ‘best defensive team in the league’ this year.

More than a few Blazers didn't play

Steve Blake (starting PG)
Brandon Roy (starting SG)
Martell Webster (starting SF)
Channing Frye (reserve PF)

And Outlaw going 1-12 is pretty much always a bad sign.

Good effort by G.S., but to be fair, they were playing a hamstrung (or crippled or stress-fractured) team.

I think lowchi just made a joke. Just because we held you guys under 100 doesn’t mean that you suck. We always get surprised when the Warriors hold a team under 100, even when the opponent wasn’t even at their best. No need to explain your team’s deficiencies of the game, it was just preseason and it was just the bench players playing.

if we had monta

we’d be a winning team. thats all i can say. this roster as it stands will hover around .500 on the “newness” factor and then will drop off unless monta returns to his normal self in january.

by Foulacy on Oct 9, 2008 12:30 AM PDT   0 recs

Monta vowed

to still be the fastest player with the basketball when he returns to the court. If that’s the case, the Warriors have a great chance for the playoffs if they stay around .500 when he gets back. A well rested Ellis is a plus at the end of the season…

by SuperFly on Oct 9, 2008 12:39 AM PDT   0 recs

if you saw the interview

instead of just reading it, you will see that he was half-coaxed into saying that, and he said it pretty light-heartedly and with a big smile. not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it is different than saying it with a straight face and as an opening statement, for example. just saying.

Portland played starters far heavier minutes than W's

Dubs ran out their B and C squad for most of the game versus the Blazers running way more minutes for their starting squad and we still smoked em like a fatty. I know it’s preseason, but those Blazer fans better get the story straight:

W’s Starters:
Maggs @ 20m
Harrington @ 16m
Biedrens @ 18m
Jax @ 12m
MWill @ 17m

Blazers Starters:
Outlaw @ 29m
Aldridge @ 25m
Oden @ 20m
Fernandez @ 36m
Bayless @ 30m

by GeeEssDub on Oct 9, 2008 2:14 PM PDT   0 recs

Bayless, Outlaw and Fernandez

are not starters on the Portland Trailblazers and three of the players you listed are rookies. -95 minutes for the non-starters and it’s a little different. Warriors played some nice ball though. It’s cool to watch the combos that will only happen in the pre-season.

The score doesn’t matter in preseason. Not much does. Don’t overreact. If you do you will be just like those people who felt B Wright was a bad player because they watched him in summer league (more games that don’t mean anything).

Just to put things in perspective, the best player according to training camp reports coming out of the preseason last year was Harrington.

You Portland fans are a pieces of !@#!@#!

The night before you run an undermanned SACTO team out of your gym and then start printing tickets to the finals. We come in to your house and run you off the court in the second half and all we hear is excuses. You were at home and got beat. get over it. I am tired of hearing about turnovers and Outlaw going 1 for 12. Last time I checked that was called good defense. Get over yourselves and go to your own board.

apoligies all the way around, I’ll be the first to admit that some of my fan base breathren get a little wound up around their star fishes, but, they are a brilliant group of basketball junkies, there are few fan bases around the league that can boast a overall knowledge of the interworkings of their team. at least I know of none.

Ya’ll don’t come over to our board and trash it all up with excuses and what not after a defeat on or off your own court, so I guess we should pay the same respect….

Our only hopes of catching the Blazers is

a) Oden does not live up to expectations
b) Roy stays injury plagued throughout his career
c) B Wright AND Randolph live up to their potential (would make some good TV when we played each other)
d) We suck horribly this year, and get rewarded with a top pick kind of like the Heat (but we are in a better situation than they were.)

by belilaugh on Oct 11, 2008 11:26 AM PDT   0 recs

we could easily do what the heat did

just shut down monta for the year, saying his injury is too terrible to risk him this season. then we wait for jack to sprain his wrist or pull his hamstring then do the same to him. after that it’s just a matter of playing young guys who are way out of their depth and signing a couple of crappy d-leaguers with no business being in the nba and start them. voila, 2nd pick in the draft.
