POB update

So far so good!

10 points

8 rebounds

3 blocks

1 steal

I saw the game yesterday and POB looks really impressive. Yes, you might say it's the preseason but he fits in  with the celtics really well. Playing with unselfish players like KG, P Double and Ray helps and takes the pressure off of him. i think the warriors gave up too soon on him. big men take longer to develope and he just needed time on the court. look what happened to beans when he got time after riding the bench for a few seasons. he was basically a bust that couldn't make a lay up or free throws. who ever knew he was going to be a big piece of the warriors

Seems to me alot of players get much better once they leave the warriors…

WARRIORS BASKETBALL!!! Patiently waiting for a title...I may be waiting for a long time...

I noticed that stat too...

but four turnovers ain’t too solid man, especially if you’re playing with the defending champs.

of course I was still impressed, and I’m with you on not giving up on him. I liked him a lot.

i’m with justsomename, it really does seem like everytime a player leaves the dubs they get a lot better. why do you guys think that is??

by Young Moolah on Oct 9, 2008 10:37 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

o rly?

wat about josh powell? or sarunas? or dampier? did barnes get better?

or are you talking about draft picks?
lets not go back to far to the past considering people like joe smith, adonal foyle, todd fuller were just bad draft picks and considering they’re not on the dubs and they’re not better that’s already a knock on your argument.

2001 we got Jason Richardson and Troy Murphy in the first round.
JRich this one hurts the most and JRich does seem better than he was in the past.
Troy Murphy isn’t much better.

2002 we drafted Mike Dunleavy
Is Dunleavy better because everyone else sucks on the Pacers? we’ll see if last year was just a career year of if he is actually good.

2003 we drafted Pietrus
Pietrus isn’t any better on Orlando… he’ll still the same from what I can tell.

2004 we drafted Biedrins
Still on the team

2005 Ike Diogou.. we saw him last night.. not any better.

2006 POB.. seems like hes slightly better but he has a role model in Kevin Garnett and it is a preseason game.

2007 draft picks are still on the game.

Richardson didn’t play appreciably better in Charlotte than he did here. The “players always get better when they leave” meme isn’t really true. Some do, some don’t. Most are about what they were when they were here. Memphis didn’t really get a good investment out of Cardinal. Speedy sure hasn’t shined since leaving.

You can add Joe Smith, Larry Hughes, Jamison and Agent Zero there too. I think we all know how well they did once they left the Warriors. For the record I do remember how Smith killed us on the boards last season when he played against us.

I do agree with JAE though, its not entirely true buts its not entirely untrue either.

about players getting better when they leave

every team goes through it and not just the warriors. there are those that end up getting better when they move or change teams because the team they go to doesn’t have a go to guy and its all gravy if they take advantage just like t-mac when he went to the magic or arenas to the wiz. and there are those who don’t do any better like those examples saintdee pointed out. as for my man POB, it was hard for him to get any run on the warriors because he’s not physical enough to be the lone big man on the court with that small ball line up. yeah him and beans are the same size but beans is a lot tougher so he gets mins though POB has a better all around game(you ever see his jumper and passing?).

Let's not forget

Tom Gugliotta, Chris Gatling, Donyell Marshall…. The list goes on…

Joe Smith went from rookie star, to non-factor after being traded to average player somewhere between mediocre starter and effective reserve. Jamsion is the same player he was when he was here, with the advantage of shining in a conference generally weaker at the top. I see nothing substantially different, no evidence that he changed for better or worse when he was traded. Hughes played a little better for a while, then played worse. He’s now not worth his contract. Arenas was on full ascent when he was here. He got better when he left, better than I would have expected, but everyone expected him to get better. Full mixed bag.

Fortson went from almost a helpful player to a one-dimensional contract baggage goon when he left. Vonteego Cummings couldn’t stick with anyone else. He played marginally well for us for a year. Marc Jackson looked good for a year, got his MLE offer matched and was pissed. He was disastrously traded for a future second rounder. It was considered a huge waste, but never really played like he was worth much more than that. What did Sura do elsewhere?

by jae on Oct 9, 2008 2:04 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

sura and boykins

bobby sura went on to play some injury riddled seasons with detroit, atlanta and houston. the last time he ever was a double digit ppg scorer was his last season with the w’s.

person who has an argument for getting away is earl boykins. he averaged between 10 – 15 ppg for denver and milwaukee after he split. plus, dude could fire up a crowd. i remember him dunking during warmups, and that was probably the loudest cheer of the entire night (we lost to phoenix huge).

Not bad picks

the picks in the 00’s were actually decent. they all have potential to shine even diogu. i’ve seen him play like a beast a few times and dunleavy, pietrus and murph are decent players. its some of our picks in the 90’s that make us look bad. picks like victor alexander, rozier, van diver, fuller and foyle….

damn, i get all sad now that i realize what kind of players we had. lol

Blame that coach of yours. Alright, ours.

This is all Don Nelson’s work. Players don’t develop riding the bench. You see he’s got the nerve to start talking about Brandan Wright now, who he traded one of the best shooting guards in the league for. And he just got 16 pts and 5 rbs in the game last night against Portland. Nelson doesn’t play his young players, yet he wonders why they aren’t developing to his liking. And on top of that, I don’t think the guy really knows big men. If he did, we might’ve won that series in the playoffs against Utah, when he should’ve been putting Foyle and Powell, who he pretty much didn’t play at all, on Boozer inside to crash the boards. Let’s stop calling this guy a genius, okay? I think a genius would’ve been able to steal at least one championship ring by this point in Nellie’s career.

And I watched the game last night, POB looked better than Beans defensively out there, and he was willing to fight a little harder for defensive rebounds then Andris is.

by GSBoi86 on Oct 9, 2008 2:07 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

But a lot of people are on Nellie’s dick, they act like Nellie knows all when it comes to big men.

“Oh yeah?? Well POB SUCKS because Nellie said so!”

Maybe we should all say that Brandan Wright sucks too, since he didn’t get much playing time under Nellie as well. Or maybe Chris Webber sucked as a rookie, that’s why Nellie got rid of him. I’m just happy that Biedrins got drafted BEFORE Nellie came back to the Warriors. Can you imagine?? Biedrins coming to Golden State as a 18 year old rookie from Latvia, has NO OFFENSIVE game whatsoever and always gets in foul trouble. Nellie would have given Biedrins the same treatment that he gave POB, except POB has a nice shooting touch and even had a sky hook; Nellie still didn’t believe in him.

Of course, both of us can’t be putting the blame COMPLETELY on Nellie. The truth is that POB was a lazy bastard who was unmotivated. LOL, I remember J-Rich, Pietrus and Barnes treating him like SH*T as a rookie, filling up his new car with popcorn and laughing at him. POB must have hated the team. I guess he was unmotivated like how Jermaine O’Neal was in his first 4 years in Portland, except I don’t see POB ever becoming as good as JO turned out to be. The good thing, is that now he’s in a great organization with a bunch of good players. POB will learn a lot scrimmaging with KG every practice, he’ll also realize how a great big men carries himself and hopefully that will be what sparks POB into puttin in work.

Damn, he better be a decent back up center at the least. People gave up on him SO FAST here in Golden State that i’m starting to become a fan of him since I know he has the skills to be a great player and prove a lot of people wrong.

by Five Ten Entertainment on Oct 9, 2008 4:51 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Five Ten, we are almost always in agreement (besides the J-Rich trade thing). A lot of us think that if a player isn’t playing there is a good reason for him not playing. That’s just not true. There are a lot of players who should be playing that are just stuck on the end of the bench for imaginary attitude problems or made up concentration issues. I still don’t know why Ike Diogu sat on the bench in Indiana.

I don’t think the popcorn incident had an effect on him, I think the main problem was his relationship with the coach. Nellie pretty much would not play him, and how can you get motivated to be the 12th man? I even remember him saying he would only come back if Nellie didn’t. That’s not him hating the organization, that’s just the coach.

NICE!

I’m glad to see Patrick finally showing what he got, the kids a beast. Hopefully he’ll be starting for the Celtics next season, or by the middle of this upcoming season.

POB has one problem. He has NO MOTOR!

He doesn’t run. Moves like he is indifferent most of the time. If he is that good 30 other teams would have begged for his services but no one else wanted his lazy asss!

P Double? Dude, that sounds like you are trying too hard to come up with some catchy nick-name. I really hope you didn’t come up with that.
