Alright, I've calmed down a bit from yesterday's game (except not really cause I'm writing this right after I wrote last night's recap) and I'm ready for the new day!
Can the Dubs finally finish a game? Forgot about what happened yesterday, and Wednesday, it's time to come in, play mentally and with heart and take down this Nets team.
Who do the Nets have anyway? Devin Harris? He's still scared from his beatdown during the 2k7 playoffs! Vince Carter? Waaay past his prime (ignore the 21 points on the season opener). Richard Jefferson? Whatever man..

The Warriors shouldn’t lose the lead to the Nets. The Raptors are a superior team to the Nets and so is the Hornets. It’s scary exciting to think that we could have been 3-0 with this cast of Warriors.

If Nelly had put in the rooks/bench and they let up a quick 7-10 pts, then we would all be on him for that. Obviously he knew we weren’t going to close this one out easily Its the 3rd game of the season and W’s need a win, I think the starters will be able to handle to fatigue.
Do you remember what happened last year?
Obviously for one or two games its ok to run your starters for 40+ minutes. But last year, that is what caused this team to miss the playoffs. They just didn’t have the spark down the stretch. It’s a question of losing a couple of games for the sake of experience and saving the starters legs, or running your starters longer to eek out a couple more wins.

you do realize that we had only one player (Baron) in the top 10 in total minutes played. Jackson had a high avg, 7th in mpg, but he was 31st in the league in total minutes. Baron was still only 9th in mpg.

Yes..
You can look at stats all you want to and it is a valid point that other teams don’t make that excuse.
But let’s see why they don’t make that excuse…It is because it is not a team problem.
They only have to run one or two of their guys for extended minutes on a regular basis, which does not cause a problem when you always have 3 or 4 fresh players on the floor. The Warriors on the other hand, had 3 of the top 20 most used players in terms of min/game in the league. They were the only team to have that many players in the top 20.
Call it no bench or bad coaching, this overuse of the starters certainly does not help the team…as evidenced by the fact that the World Champion Boston Celtics managed to have their 3 best players average less than 36 min. per game.

mpg is not as significant as total minutes played. we had 2 players in the top 30 in this category.
and one of those players was Monta, who seemed to get stronger as the season went on.
so the only guy you could really make a case for as to not being fresh is Baron. still his minutes aren’t outrageous, and, outside of the webber experiment, he NEVER PRACTICED.
i can’t believe you can look at the #‘s and still not face reality. i guess you only see what you want to see… it’s like you think the earth is flat and i give you mathematical evidence that it’s not and you still don’t believe me.

There are stats to prove my point just as their are to prove yours. Fact: Warriors starters played heavy minutes (This is a fact, maybe not the heaviest, but still played more minutes than most teams) and they had a bad record (3-6) down the stretch.
Can you blame this bad record on other things, sure. But that doesn’t mean that tired legs didn’t have something to do with it. Watching this team down the stretch last year, they were slower.

was andris tired? kelenna? harrington? barnes? pietrus? jackson? other than the 3 clunkers where he shot bad, he seemed fine the other 6 games in april.
Yes, 2 warriors played heavy minutes BD & Monta. but one player, Monta, was obviously fine with it. the other player, BD (who, i repeat, didn’t practice save the webber experiment).
so if you want to say Baron played too much and that he’s not in as good a shape as most NBA guys, i can at least see your point.
but when compared to other players who do practice (and most playoff teams don’t play zone like we did over half the time), even if you account for pace of play, it wasn’t minutes, because other guys played way more. it was, as reported, Baron’s partying the night before games.
extreme example, but if a guy plays 48 minutes a game, but only plays in 40 games, do you expect that person to be tired? you look at total minutes to gauge wear & tear, not avg.

“vince carter gets infinite respect though because he did the greatest dunk of all time. and i hate that this game is going to look close”

You’d be hard-pressed to call that a pretty win, but there were some positives here.
1) Biedrins, obviously. Anyone still think that contract wasn’t good for us?
2) Man, I like Maggette. This game is a good indication of the strength of his game — he can go 3-for-13 and still have a decently efficient offensive night. More rebounding from him, too… he’s a much better Nellie-style 4 than Al.
3) Nellie’s digging a little deeper into the bench. Both PGs at least looked like they belonged out there, and Azubuike and Turiaf continue to be great bench pieces. Wright didn’t get much time, but at least he got a decent run in the 2nd. I thought this was a well-coached game.
Considering the weird spot we’re in — the absence of Monta, the presence of Al — I think things are actually looking pretty decent. We just gotta move Al and kinda hang around till Monta gets back. I think that’s doable.
1) Biedrins is great, and 7-8 free throws greatly offset our lousy ft shooting.
2) I wonder how many of those misses were because he was fouled and kept trying to shoot. Hasn’t he had a double double now for each game?
Al had a bad night, but still got us 14 pts. He went 4-13, which is bad (though 3-7 3pt helped). Not bad, but not great, we need 20pts from him.

win is a win
I like the win, but what I mostly liked what the Warriors did in the 3rd quarter. They still don’t know how to close out games. If we didn’t have the 19 point lead that we had, the warriors would have lost another game in the last 4 minutes due to not knowing how to close out a ball game. Nellie needs to teach his club how to do that because the warriors are going to be just about in every game this season if nothing goes wrong.
