Maggette should take a page from Monta's book, and Randolph from Maggette
Today's game just cemented what I've been thinking about since the first couple of games I saw Maggette play: He should not take any more 3pt shots.
Just look at today's game. He's 7-15 shooting and 0-5 from beyond the arc. Take those 5 3pters out and he shot a very efficient 7-10fg. He's shooting a very low percentage because he's shooting 18% from behind the 3pt line. He's taken 21 3pters in 6 games. You take out the game against Detroit where he played just 28 minutes. And he is hoisting up 4 a game.
Also, most if not all the 3pt attempts he attempted today were wide open shots. But he just couldn't make it. However, he didn't have any trouble knocking down mid range shots.
That said, he should take a page out of Monta's book and start stepping inside the arc. It worked wonder for him and it should benefit Maggette as well. We all know the 3Ball is not his strongest suite. What I liked about him (after sorting all the mess that was the offseason) was that he was gonna add a different dimension to the Warriors but I fear that he's just gonna turn into another 3pt chucker.
---------------------------------------------------
Now for Randolph. Like Maggette, I like how Randolph has a knack for getting himself to the line. But let's face it, he's not gonna get that many calls driving to the basket this year. So his best choice is to really find consistency on his midrange shot. But he should also start asking Maggette how to play the refs game.
I don't have a trained eye for it but why does it seem like despite making identical plays, Maggs will get fouled 3 times more than SJax. Maybe they are doing something different that I just don't see.
Same with DWade and Kobe. There are times Kobe gets swarmed by the Warriors and despite alot of contact surprisingly gets no calls (not complaining). However, there seems to be a rule that you can't touch any part of DWade when he drives to the basket.
Apparently, this is not a foul...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8X7jPPi_4M
But this is...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aySGUzzxjGE
I know it's an exaggeration since bad calls are made against pretty much all players but some gets more BS calls than others. Can't find a vid of Maggette or Jackson but I think getting calls is half knowing how to sell the contact and half building a reputation with the refs. So, Randolph better start learning what makes the refs tick or at least the spread for that night game (sorry, had to).
This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Buike was struggling as well
And he made both 3pts this game. As long as the look is good…
He just needs to work on his 3pt shooting.
Now Randolph, learning from mags would be good.
by mosdl on Nov 15, 2008 6:25 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
but the difference is
Buike is a career 36% 3pt shooter while Maggette is only 32% in his career.
Buike is just struggling with his 3pt shot this year. He’s shown he can knock them down.
But Maggs has never been a strong 3pt shooter. Looking at his career, all except one season he shot less than 3 3pters per game. I fear that he’s gonna be trigger happy this year unless the coaching staff brings it to his attention.

The question is
The teams are different, so might not be the best comparison. I like the looks he is getting. But I admit, I rather have him drive and kick to an more accomplished 3pt shooter.

If you think Buike should still be shooting threes your crazy
by pbra17 on Nov 15, 2008 9:17 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Well...
The guy is definitely struggling this year. He is fading back on his shot. But he was effective from three the two seasons prior. I don’t think that it’s crazy at all to think that he can get it together this year.

OK so I question the lack of support shown by the moderators here for the team..
and I have my perfectly acceptable post about Morrows great game deleted with a warning?
Warning for what? stating that I am fed up of certain mods continually saying “We Believe is dead” get over yourselves!
If this forum becomes one where people cannot view their opinion that certain members of this community are not supporting the team then this becomes a very sad day for GSOM.
So much for free speech eh?

“Morrow – WE BELIEVE I am watching the most incredible display by this young man against the Clippers! Given his first NBA start and 5 minutes to go and he has 37 points!!!! This team is starting to gel and REALLY hope we dont go for the likes of Starbury if this is what Morrow can do on a regular basis. If we get another really useful player for Harrington, we are going to look seriously dangerous once we get Monta back! I know we get the constant doom and gloom from some of the mods here stating "We Believe is dead” What a load of bullcrap! I believe, have not stopped believing and I am really excited to see the speed of progress of this young team! Truly superb effort fellas great to see! Awesome Performance Anthony Morrow!!! "
It was not deemed to be a “perfectly acceptable” FanPost and it has nothing to do with your opinion. Great comment or great FanShot, but not high enough quality to merit its own FanPost. Not sure why you didn’t just move it to one of the two appropriate places on this site instead of ranting about “free speech”. And this isn’t a forum or message board- never was and never will be.

I don’t know how many times this has to be said, but I’ll say it again, “If you think that your freedom of expression is being stifled on any site, you are more than free to start your own”. The internet itself is a free speech zone, individual blogs are free to the extent that the individuals who created them and maintain them decide they are.
Do I agree with the mods on everything? No. Have I had comments deleted before? Yep. Last week I slammed someone for bashing Kawakami, got my comment deleted. Do I think I deserved it? Not really, but its not my house. I like visiting this house, so I play by house rules.

But that's the thing my man
It’s not even about free speech. This particular one was about keeping the FanPosts high quality and asking someone to move their thoughts to a comment or FanShot.
Do you know how many personal attacks on the GSoM Crew that we let go? It’s like sometimes people don’t want to talk hoops, they just come here to act a fool.
To this day no one’s post or comment has ever been deleted just because one of us didn’t agree with it or they challenged one of the writer’s opinions. Now if you’re starting a flame war, dissing one of our folks inappropriately, swearing, being homophobic/ racist, then we’ve got no luv for ya.
(Not sure what your comment was about bloodsweatndonuts)

Some advice...
making a Fanpost while while someone is having a great game is kind of like calling an ex-girlfriend when you’re drunk. It’s really a lot smarter to wait until the party is over and you’ve got a clear head, and at that point you can ask yourself “do I really have anything to say?”

You know what Mike, I did...
I was incredibly impressed with Morrow and the team as a whole and had the urge to put something on the boards here for those who may not have ben watching the game! I also happened to comment on the continued lack of support and tone from certain individuals speaking onbehalf of others when they have no place to.
I personally dont believe “We Believe is dead”. Yet that is often what we face on the front page of the site and I am looking for a little more encouragement from the mods.
Your answer said nothing Atma about what was wrong withthepost? Every day people post “their thoughts” about players, games, etc yet thes dont get pulled. The Fanpost was the correct length, too long for a Fanshot and a personal opinion.
Or are we not allowed these now?
I didnt think this was a clique but an SB Nation fan site for Fans to post their thoughts and their feelings on certain subject matters, players etc. Obviously this is not the case. I have checked the rules and I dont feel my Fanpost broke any rules or attacked any one particular person and was no poorer in terms of content than many other posts. However it did mention the moderators trend toward having a go at our team and hence it suddenly was not high enough quality for these boards.
At the end of the day, it’s not important, snippy little comments back and sarcasm mean f-all, so carry on. Just a shame that attitudes as shown above will actually stop people from bothering to post.
Also for the record Atma…there was not an Open thread about the game currently open only one that covered the subject matter of pre-game hence why I created a new one.
Maybe a simple friendly note from you saying “hey man, this is great that your excited by the team and a player but can you make this type of comment in another thread or fanpost”.
That would have gotten a whole different reaction from me, so dont preach to me about ranting when your own approach might also bear different responses and thus you might possibly get less crap from people as they may have felt you treated them or their opinions with a little more respect in the first instance.
But as I said, do what you like and keep giving us front page doom and gloom about how little people “Believe”. I personally do Believe that this team will grow and do well this year and I will continue to support them every way I can.
I’ll finish by saying this again and this was the point of the post. I think Morrow had a truly superb game and I am greatly encouraged by the team’s growth game on game.
I BELIEVE – Even if others dont.

Actually there was: http://www.goldenstateofmind.com/2008/11/15/661887/game-10-warriors-clippers Hundreds of other people used that space for game comments at the level of your FanPost.
Everything else you wrote about is a non-issue as described previously.

Haha, How about the tech stock bubble? or the housing bubble? or Elvis?
Personally I think your post was fine and not worth the moderators taking it down, maybe they were just bored?
More-O had a once in a lifetime rookie game but that’s no reason to believe yet, let him do it as long as Kobe has and we’ll deserve a championship..

Hey Brit...
Hope my comment didn’t offend. I was just looking for an opportunity to make a joke. I really don’t have much of an opinion on whether your Fanpost was quality enough to stay up. I’ve seen a lot worse stay up, but I’ve seen much better too. Anyway sorry if I came across as a jerk.

Randolph from Maggette?
Magfette is a different type of player than Rudolf. I think Rudolf would do well to emulate Tayshan Prince, He knows how to maximize his skils. Rudy has similiar skills but just needs to learn how to play in control and play to his strengths.

emulate
You’re talking a whole different thing here. I’m not trying to say he should pattern his game to Maggette’s. I’m saying he needs to learn how to get the refs to blow the whistle. Driving to the lane is part of his game already, shown in the summer league. But he’s not gonna get those kind of calls here, at least not right now. He already knows how to draw contract, but he needs to make sure the refs would blow the whistle every time he does.

maggette just knows how to create contact more than jackson
he is like a running back in the sense that he will make a move, hit the hole and throw his body into the defender

on the point of getting calls
the star system is in effect even if denied by everyone – Andris NEVER got calls in the past, now he’s starting to get some respect by officials … Maggette gets respect, but Jackson burned his bridges and reputation after years and years of crying for fouls in the league – did it in SA, Indy, and does it here. I doubt he’ll ever earn that respect back from the refs. AR is a rookie, shouldn’t expect calls to go his way unless it’s obvious – not yet.

This should be a rule: “If you see an infraction, call it. If you don’t see it, don’t call it”.
That would pretty much solve the problem.
