OPEN THREAD: Warriors vs Trailblazers - Open Thread Cop Out.

 Wile_e__coyote_medium
Work. Not stopping. Must... get... up... open thread.

Warriors: 4-6

Trailblazers: 6-4

Tip-Off: 7:30pm

TV: CSN, CSNHD

Radio: KNBR

Wow. What a cop-out. Worst Open Thread ever. Alas, work continues to rain down on me and the game is merely 2 hours away. And dammit we need a place to DISCUSS.

DISCUSS the performance we expect from Morrow tonight. Fluke?!

DISCUSS our possibilities of riding our momentum in the house that We Believe built.

DISCUSS how ugly Greg Oden is. (Seriously though... I'm no prize, but that guy? Dayam.)

DISCUSS how crappy this Open Thread is.

DISCUSS.

Predictions:

I'm still here when the game ends. God bless DVR.

GO WARRIORS!!!!

Poll
(I'd like to dedicate this poll to warriorsscore110 and the extra notch I'm gaining by adding it. I wonder if I add more answer options I'll get an extra extra notch? Let's find out.) The Warriors will:

oden's job is not to be good-looking

though i think he’s looks fine. he hasn’t really come out to play, but seems like a good kid. you’re “job” however-in connection with the site at least-is to be a good, or passable, writer. you’ve failed.

Dave's a pretty funny guy
A day at the local firing range…

OK son, sight down the barrel. That’s it. Envision yourself hitting the center of that target. Slow your heartbeat, controlled breathing, gently squeeze the trigger… Nice!

How’d I do, coach?

Not bad. High and left but better than last time. Your breathing still needs work. Let’s try it again. Remember, take your time. Quality, not quantity. Each shot is a small stroke in your signature of perfection.

Alright. I just…

BRRRRAAAT-A-TAT-A-TAT-A-TAT-A-TATTA-TAT-TAT! BRRRRAAAAT-A-TAT-A-TAT-A-TAT! BRRRAAAT-A-TATTA-TATTA-TATTA pwing! pwing! thud! BRRRRAAAT-A-TAT-A-TAT-A-TAT-A-TATTATATTATATTA-TAT! TAT-TAT! TAT! TAT!

Coach! What the heck is that?!?

(sigh) That’s the Golden State Warriors, son.

Can they hit the target firing like that?

Boy, there’s no target left over there. I think they blew up the concession stand too.

If I am wrong i will respond with a D'Oh

Agreed

Dave does incredible work.

Sorry for the let down Lat; won’t make it a habit.. Part of what makes GSoM so fun for the Moderators is usfeeling comfortable letting the community sometimes see our personalities as well as our view on the Warriors. When I don’t have time to give you guys a proper breakdown, I’m going to at least give you a little personality.

As for my personality? Well let’s just say I like to act the fool.

thanks a lot, appreciate, my prediction, dubs will be down but keep it close until the 4th where they break it wide open for 8 minutes, then the blazers battle back to within 3, jackson throws in the dagger 3 in the last 2…just your typical warriors doin the typical bay area thing to keep us on our toes! im hyped, as usual

Morrow doesn't even have a car yet

From SFGate, Morrow takes BART or gets rides from CJ Watson.

thanks for the link

“I always like the underdog,” Jackson said. “I root for them in movies. I root for them in sports. … Players who make it when they’re not drafted, I love their attitudes. Last year, I said C.J Watson was my son. Now, he’s got a brother.”

hahah That’s why I love Jack.

by disguy on Nov 18, 2008 6:31 PM PST up reply actions

Who are the Blazers?

I cant really see who they’re building around I mean I know Roy is good but all i ever hear about it Greg Oden who hasnt shown well anything yet. Are they just a balanced team where everyone have a specialty or do they thrive on thm perimeter or pound it inside? I need answer PLEASE

by Warriorfan on Nov 18, 2008 6:10 PM PST reply actions

Aldridge is pretty sick.

They’ve got Roy and Aldridge, and a ton of depth. Fernandez is looking very good early, they’ve got a bonafide scorer in Outlaw, a more than competent back up in Pryzbilla, a ton of young talent including Bayless, etc.

All they need is Oden to become a decent star type player and they are a contender. They go as far as he goes. If he lives up to his billing as a dominant force, forget about it. If he stays injury prone, they are a fringe playoff team unless someone like Fernandez just becomes the next Ginobili.

morrow starting

http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2008/11/18/warriors-tonight-morrows-starting-will-guard-blake-initially/

My prediction:
Team A leads by 1st qtr by 5.
Team B cuts the deficit to 1 in the 2nd
Team B makes big comback in 3rd, only to loose all of it at the end of the qt.
Team A wins the game by 8

Lots of “we suck” comments, followed by “beans rocks” and “when will we trade tmnt” comments.

And someone mentions that we are better than the clips at least.

by mosdl on Nov 18, 2008 6:37 PM PST reply actions

win or lose

at least we’re better than the clips

by racsan on Nov 18, 2008 6:51 PM PST up reply actions

this is completely off topic and i will get bashed for the trade idea...

but what about stackhouse for harrington. carlisle doesn’t want stackhouse, he wants out. harrington could play in dallas where they need a shooting power forward stackhouse has a big contract but so does harrington and i think stackhouse is off the books before 2010

JRich 23

by warriorsalltheway on Nov 18, 2008 7:00 PM PST reply actions

ya i agree

but seems like he could help us out, hes a good scorer and making only around 7 mil this year which is less than harrington

JRich 23

by warriorsalltheway on Nov 18, 2008 7:04 PM PST up reply actions

I don't think Stack want to come here.

He wants to go to a contending team where he figures to get regular minutes. Also I just read an interview with him where he’s talking about how he strongly prefers to play in a structured, half-court type of offense, which is obviously not what we are known for.

Plus, he really doesn’t address any needs for us, especially if Morrow actually works his way into the rotation and Monta comes back at full steam. Just like in Dallas, he would be playing behind a bunch of younger players and struggling for minutes.

Livin in the E

Been a while since there was a game we should loose

Seems we’ve been playing weak/decent teams for a while. Finally we’ve got a team I won’t cry about loosing to (other than the opener).

The question is how beans will do with oden. If the dbl dbl streak continues, I say we have a fighting chance. If beans is shut down, we are screwed.

Perhaps randolph can have his big breakthrough game.

by onlxn on Nov 18, 2008 8:41 PM PST reply actions

i’m not high on belinelli at all and i can’t wait for the warriors to get something for him in a trade but nelson gives belinelli little to no chance in the sparing minutes he’s given.
he got maybe two touches in two minutes. not even a shot attempt. he’s not getting much of a chance at all.

wright on the other hand- give him some more burn in the second half. it’s not like they need to be conservative with his fouls like andris

Stats are interesting

both had 40 rebs
We shot 94.3% fts – corey and beans both missed on (tsk tsk maggs, you are no longer our best ft shooter :)

Sjax had another bad shooting night – 5-18 fg, 0-3 3pts, but made all 10 fts, 8 reb, 8 ast, 5 tos (bad, but 3 were in the first qtr I believe).

At least he didn’t jack up too man 3pts

We better sign Morrow soon. I think he is real.

And last, another nice performance by cj (minus the last few crap inbound possessions)

Bench issue

Only 4 bench folks were in, and turiaf/marco didn’t score. Now marco is used to allow people to rest and plays decent defense, and turiaf had 4 reb, 1ast and 2 blks.

We need the bench to play more. Obviously we are playing with two men down (scooter and tmnt), but it seems we could have used a good passer in there for a bit.

by mosdl on Nov 18, 2008 10:35 PM PST reply actions

Morrow is gonna run out of gas

if we keep playing him that much. Yes, he could be the missing piece…but we need to give Marco Beli some minutes to see if he signs. Sometimes, competition brings the best out of everyone…and he knows very well, he needs to step up. Nellie barely put Marco in the game.

But hey, is there a site/link to watch this game on-line? I have CSN for not having games on-demand…as supposedly advertised.

Good lord. THAT was fun, even with the late craziness. Our most satisfying win and our best-played game. We may indeed have gotten a favor or two from the refs, but that’s how it goes a lot of nights… we hit our free throws and, last minute aside, took care of business. We did not steal this game. We won it.

Beans had his usual good game… it so happens that he didn’t get a couple random boards, but this was business as usual for him. I thought Jack settled down really nicely, after his over-the-top start. Yeah, he had a wild shot and a wild pass late, but he generally played within the flow of the offense again, and if he does more of that going forward, it’ll help us. Maggette was really good, and I think they need to do a better job of finding him… he’s just a disciplined, reliable scorer. ’Buike did his usual B/B-plus thing.

Morrow was awesome, and it seems that we’ve found our Steve Blake/Jason Kapono type dude, which is nothing to sneeze at. If he’s even more than that, great, but I’d happily settle for that. Watson had a nice game off the bench, and I’m totally happy with him as Monta’s eventual backup, even if he isn’t all that point guard-y. Turiaf provided some real energy and wacky faces; Wright was neither good nor bad in his cameos.

This is really starting to feel like a team. Nobody’s playing discordant, lazy, selfish basketball… Jack guns horribly at times, but it’s certainly not from apathy. Nellie now has six pieces — Jack, Maggette, Buike, Biedrins, Turiaf, Morrow and Watson — that he seems genuinely comfortable with, and he’s flirting with Wright. If Wright cracks the rotation for good and Monta comes back healthy, that’s an eight-man rotation that fits together really nicely. Swing-heavy, yeah, but that’s Nellieball for ya.

Still hard to know what this team is, but it’s not terrible, and it’s certainly trending upward. They’re a blast to watch, too.. it’s a really likeable group. Playoffs are a longshot for sure, but I think most of us will come out of this season feeling pretty good about the future.

by onlxn on Nov 18, 2008 10:36 PM PST reply actions

They’re on the way to being a team, but I’m not ready to call them that just yet. There’s still noticeable periods of no ball movement, one-on-one basketball. Still, we’re not stagnating like the good old DunMurphy days.

by IQofaWarrior on Nov 18, 2008 10:51 PM PST up reply actions

But much less one-on-one

Mags and Sjax are the ball horders, but mags is shooting better and better and passing more (3asts!). Buike seems to be hording a bit, but as long as he finishes and gets the +1 every so often, that is ok.

Improvement!

Us Blazer fans have a long memory, dating back to 92 finals when Jordan rained threes on us all day. Morrow was hitting his shots no matter what we did. But you know, if he’s an unguaranteed contract, there’s a possibility that he might bail on you guys and sign with a contender right? I know he’s taking paychex from you guys right now, but if another team comes sniffing around, what’s the chance he won’t bail? The problem you blazers fans had was that you looked at our record. Keep up the good work, the West doesn’t look as strong this year…you guys might make the playoffs.

by Newton Pham on Nov 18, 2008 11:14 PM PST reply actions

Great Game!!!!!!!

Morrow is for real! The moment he checked himself in the opening minute from taking the first shot, I thought…this kid has got Basketball IQ!!!!!

Superb effort!

CJ tonight turned the game IMO, Jackson was having a mare! and when CJ came on we suddenly had that speed that Portland didnt know what to do with.

Buike didnt have a great game but was OK, Andris very solid, Ronny T did a great job for the 10 mins he played and yet again Marco didnt quite get it done when he had his minutes, but then again he was not being given the ball. I have no doubt he could go somewhere like the Bucks or Memphis and get great minutes and do really well, but just dont think its gonna happen here.

Magette has really added a dimension to this team that we were missing last year and so all in all, I really liked what I saw.

Let’s just not discuss the last 10 seconds of the game where some inexperience almost cost us dear, but hey, step forward Mr Morrow and drain THREE FT’s in a key moment.

The doubters can run along, this boy is going to be huge!

ALL of this and with Monta in the wings…..I DO BELIEVE, WE DO BELIEVE…..WE MIGHT JUST HAVE A GOOD CHANCE OF PLAYOFFS!

However…..right now I want kick Monta’s agent in the ass! as it seems he is getting his guy all fired up in arguements with the franchise when he should be telling his client to shut the hell up, get better and learn from his mistake!

Yet again the Marketing Front office is making a giants pigs arse breakfast of a golden marketing opportunity! I enquired in the shop after the game about a Morrow jersey, the guy says and I quote “Unfortunately we just cannot get shirts made quick enough and I honestly would not be surprised if they dont get here before APRIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Are you frickin kidding me??? After that game in LA, they should have hit the nearest god damn T-shirt printing house and got some immediate “22” Morrow – 37 Point First Game Start, shirts printed! At least to tie them over until the main shirts arrive…. MARKETING DEPARTMENT YOU FAIL MISERABLY!!!!!!!!!!!

As for the team, you are far from failing and I am superbly impressed with every single one of our team members! GO WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's about heart, It's about fight, It's about being a Warrior!

Lets not overdo the playoffs thing

Remember, youngest team in the nba here. I think we’ll need all the help to get a winning season even with Monta and change we get for Al (or Al himself playing for a trade).

But morrow/randolph are giving us something to be excited about.

by mosdl on Nov 18, 2008 11:26 PM PST up reply actions

CJ tonight turned the game IMO, Jackson was having a mare! and when CJ came on we suddenly had that speed that Portland didnt know what to do with.

I think this is exactly right, and this has been the other great thing about the Morrow experiment.

The current setup messes with the rhythm of the opposing team twice. The Jackson/Morrow backcourt that starts the game is unusual, and then, just as our opponents adjust to that, Nellie brings in Watson for a more traditional look. The traditional-PG-as-sixth-man thing has really caught people off guard.

It’s not a dynamic that’s going to last for a long time, as Watson won’t be a change of pace from Monta. But it’s a cool little dynamic, and an example of the positives of Nellie’s coaching style.

Thank you Mully for having the knack to pick gold out of people's (undrafted) garbage

And just for that….we should keep Mully. Damn you Rowell.

Here’s a thought: remember early in the 1st quarter when Corey and Jax started doing a lot of isolation plays (that didn’t work)? This could be ridiculous, but do you think Mags and Cap (despite the help towards the W) are trying to get more points since THE ROOKIE, Morrow has been the leading scorer as of late? Jax hasn’t been making those clutch/heat check 3s no more and Morrow has. It has challenged SJax to be a better distributor/perimeter shooter…but u know…just a thought…

by DubCurse on Nov 18, 2008 11:30 PM PST reply actions

Sjax has 8 assts

And only 4 3pt attempts.

Plus the mags iso plays were going well, he was making a lot of them. The sjax ones, not so much.

Seems sjax is fine with morrow doing the 3pts and him distributing more. We can’t always give it to morrow, so they need to show they can score so that the defense is thinned out. So that morrow can get it and make the 3.

by mosdl on Nov 18, 2008 11:34 PM PST up reply actions

but do you think Mags and Cap (despite the help towards the W) are trying to get more points?

I don’t think so. I think it’s their mentality and their style to try to drive and beat their opponents, no matter how difficult it ends up being to score. That no fear attitude has its advantages, but can hurt the team if you take that attitude too far.
