warriors... soft?
dont get me wrong. i'm a huge warriors fan and i've been watching all the games down in la on my slingbox and i'm excited about all the young players but i see something missing in the general attitude of the team.
back in the year of that there was a certain nastiness to the team. guys like baron, jrich, barnes, pietrus and stack jack werent scared to get in anybody's face after a hard foul or missed call. that aggressiveness translated to the court and gave the team a presence that other (probably more skilled) teams couldnt match. i just dont see any body on the current team with that same attitude. i mean when has a warrior had a rimshaking dunk this year a la baron or jrich in past years.
im all for sportsmanship and composure but a good scuffle here or there during the season is healthy. captain jack and ronny certainly have it the attitude to match the team of two years ago. and ive seen glimpses of it from morrow and itll probably increase with experience. but guys like monta, biedrins, buke, wright, randolph, watson appear too laid back and soft right now to be a top tier team

We had that last year, Matt Barnes. But now he’s getting Technicals and ejected for another team, the Suns.

I like Azubuike. He is never afraid to get posterized by anyone and will jump up and challenge even if it means he’ll be on the receiving end of one of ESPN’s Top 10 Plays that night.
Speaking of which, ESPN does NOT give the Warriors enough credit, seems like everyone else’s game highlights are much longer than ours. And we NEVER make their Top Plays, instead, all the all stars and even alot of college players get the top plays even though we make some crazy ass plays that night that deserve to get in.

we’re also just not a very good team. The Celts, Cavs, and Lakers get a lot of love on ESPN because they have big stars, big appeal, AND they win a lot.

well it would be pretty damn poor ...
If there werent winning all the time with their lineups???

ESPN
alot of it has to do with the pacific time… at least I tell myself that! I’ve noticed the same for the A’s and Raiders as well? Go fig… I think if Al Davis dies a huge cloud will be lifted over the bay area!?

disagree..
rimshaking dunks dont constitue a hard team. while baron and jrich did had composure and swag. a quiet killer can be just as deadly and “hard.” we are growing as a team and i dont see anybody short of al and belinelli with soft tendancies. I prefer mentally tough teams my basketball taste matures and i see this team missing one solid complementary piece at the PF position. he might even be on our roster already. just let these boys grow and gel

true, and Maggette does seem to crack under pressure, so far at least.

maggs and buike steamroll all the time
Both drive to the basket without being afraid of contact. Monta is like that too. CJ too is starting to do that.
Though Buike seems to finish the wildest, sometimes I can’t believe he gets them into the basket.

I'll let the videos do the talking...
I’ve always liked Buike’s mental toughness. Like someone said before, he’s not afraid to get posterized…..just check out these youtube videos….the 1st one is from the denver game this year vs dantay jones

wheres the star?
more credit needs to be given to the warriors. they are young. most will be solid nba players. some should be potential allstars contenders (biedrins, monta) for years to come but where is the superstar that will take this team over the top?
by thecitybythebay on Nov 19, 2008 5:51 PM PST reply actions 0 recs
Detroit proved in 04 that really good, unselfish star (not superstar) role players can mesh, come together, and win a championship. I’m not saying that the Warriors will be world champions this year, but I’m just saying that you don’t necessarily need a “superstar” to win a title, although it greatly helps in those crunch time situations having that go-to guy to take the final shot in a close game.

thats what
stephen jackson is for…he could be shooting 1-10 going into the dying minutes of the game and all of a sudden hit three three’s in a row. this guy seems to transform into a superstar in the dying seconds in the game. i would like to see a stat of stephen jackson’s fg% in the last 5 minutes of games as opposed to the first 43.

The problem is
the fact that he plays so many minutes :)
by mosdl on Nov 19, 2008 7:05 PM PST up reply actions 0 recs
Yes, he is a star, but not an all star. An all star is Lebron, Kobe, Garnett, players of their calibre that seem to can rise above everyone else and dominate an entire game and not just the fourth quarter. Jackson, Ellis, Biedrins, are all players I consider as NBA star quality, but not NBA all stars.

Did you call in on Fitz and Brooks today?
They bashed someone who said pretty much what you said. Jack is tough as nails so is Buke, Turiaf, and everyone else outside of Harrington, but he has always been soft. We Hard.

Turiaf
Him going after Oden was the definition of tough. Sadley Oden was tougher. But who is tougher than oden?

Because they are not squaring up to players they are soft?
You evidently have never heard the pharse “Walk softly but carry a BIG stick!”
Giving the mouth and squaring off does not make you hard, it makes you look like an ass, as one fateful day the person you square off to simply says nothing but almost takes your head off with a punch you didnt see coming….
So, I will take this high energy, uptempo evidently great team spirit side than a bunch of muppets getting constant technical fouls and rubbing the refs up the wrong way, resulting in even MORE crappy calls against us!
I like this team this year and I hope they do really well, as next they are going to do even better. Then there might be just one or two on these boards who choke on their own bile!

i can imagine this attitude (we against world and charles barkley) as something very necessary and important in playoff run but team like this would be killed by refs in regular (82 games) season -if you tried to say that you miss Baron and JRich that’s different story
but guys like monta, biedrins, buke, wright, randolph, watson appear too laid back and soft right now to be a top tier team
leading NBA in rebs is most likely is the softest thing ever -Buike is beast every game he plays
BTW how tough guy BD is doing?
sometimes people don’t want to talk hoops, they just come here to act a fool.
by Lat We N Trash on Nov 20, 2008 12:40 AM PST reply actions 0 recs
Ill take HEART over nastiness anytime…Heart shows up in gametime situations all the time…nastiness just pumps off adreniline. I think this team feels it has a lot to prove because most of the players were once considered role players and are now in starting roles. Also with all the media talk about the loss of BD the loss of BD the loss of BD…being a current warrior I would want to prove…yeah we miss him…but we dont need him.
So what your stronger..faster...and can jump higher...I can FLOP better.
