Al for friggin Malik Rose?

http://www.nypost.com/seven/11212008/sports/knicks/walsh_cuts_a_deal_for_an_old_favorite_139971.htm

I found this while looking for the most recent articles and it looks like we are getting Malik Rose in an apparent salary dump deal. I mean Al Harrington is no star, but there has to be someone out there who wants him who could give the W's back someone skilled enough to help us right now and not just an old geezer who is just here to collect paychecks and then be off the books next year... Disappointing if this is indeed the trade, but personally I liked the Jamal Crawford deal better.

This FanPost is a submission from a member of the mighty Golden State of Mind community. While we're all here to throw up that W, these words do not necessarily reflect the views of the GSoM Crew. Still, chances are the preceding post is Unstoppable Baby!

Just saw this.

Really? Oh well, expiring contract that wouldn’t play anyways.
But really, what were we expecting?

MURS for President!!!!!!!

interesting

and somewhat disappointing.

To be honest, i didn’t even know he was still in the league.

I pray i never have to use a gun again...

...unless i'm at a strip club parking lot...

...and somebody tries to run me over with their car...

...But how often does that happen??

Awesome.

I actually kinda like Crawford: a big guy who can play PG; a guy whose plus/minus numbers the last few years indicate a positive impact, despite the low FG%; probably the toughest guy on that woeful team.

Still, I didn’t see how he fit in the Monta-Buki-Morrow-Jack equation, even if he got all of CJ’s minutes. Rose is exactly the “bag of balls with an expiring” we’d been hoping for. Now we get to bide our time, see how the rotation shakes out on Monta’s return, and flip Rose (ideally with Marco) for a player we really want and need.

Well done, Mulson, or whoever runs things in the asylum these days…

Put another way: Malik Rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.

(As long as he came with an expiring contract).

Also

I would guess Malik is buds with Cap’n Jack from their SA days, which should be a plus for team chemistry, if nothing else. He has a couple o’ rings, and used to be a solid defender and rebounder, so maybe he can teach the kids a thing or two in practice.

As long as Nellie’s never, ever tempted to give him meaningful minutes…

ya I'll take the expiring contract

we can use that money to get a better player in FA.

I just hope something concrete comes out soon so we can stop the speculation

btw i'd like to add

Malik Rose is going to be a really nice trade chip near the trade deadline. Some losing team will probably be looking to do a Pau Gasol salary dump type trade so Rose would be the perfect chip if that opportunity presents itself.

mulson should try and push for nate robinson

and stick in marcus williams if they want a pg in return. all 4 contracts expire at the same time and the numbers match

SOMETHING BETTER THEN NOTHING

MILWAUKEE – Our Peter Vecsey is reporting Donnie Walsh being on the verge of making 6-9 forward Al Harrington a Knick, probably in exchange for Malik Rose’s expiring contract. Vecsey is reporting the Harrington deal is expected to be officially consummated with Golden State Friday morning.

isnt having rose

the same as Harrington? they both have similar contracts assuming Al would opt at the end of the year.

by DuikeBuike on Nov 21, 2008 7:31 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

Since Harrington would have opted out, isn't keeping him on the inactive list

a better expiring deal than Rose? Unless Nelson has some use for Malik Rose (remember when he used to kill the Warriors as a Spurs player?) this is a cave-in move.

Straight numbers-wise, Harrington’s $9.3m is coming off the books is better than Rose’s $7.6m expiring so I don’t see this as great unless there is a pick involved. This is a great deal for the Knicks.

I see why the Warriors couldn’t do what I am suggesting. It would compound the bad reputation that the Warriors front office is gaining by their handling of the Ellis situation.

I still think they could tell Al that they are going to keep him inactive unless he follows instructions and then force him to opt at the end and get his $9.3 off of the books. I think Al would buy back in and this would be forgotten by the off-season.

Reduce your carbon footprint, commit suicide.

CAP SPACE?

Hasn’t this current regime proven that cap space means nothing? Didn’t we move J-Rich so we could sign guys like Baron down the road? If we eat Malik Rose, I guarantee we don’t sign anyone substantial and use the current backloaded contracts excuse. If I KNEW we’d pick up a decent player next offseason – sure, do it. But if we do nothing with it, give me Crawford and his 20ppg and 45% from threes.

Nothing > Harrington

With the presence of Maggette, and Morrow’s and BWright’s blossoming, Harrington is net negative on this team. Who cares what we get for him, as long as it doesn’t hurt our cap position and isn’t an annoying malcontent?

Inexpensive garbage in, expensive garbage out = great deal for us.

Just realized this had already been posted....

I was to into the crawford deal…lol…this is crap! I went for being excited to saying…..WTF!

I could see him paired with morrow

Morrow can go for 20 a night it seems, and Rose can rebound, which we are missing.

I am guessing he’ll come of the bench. Not too shabby.

No, he is too shabby.

You’re imagining the Malik Rose from a few years ago. The current Rose can’t rebound, or do anything else of value. Brandan Wright is currently 10,000,000 times the player Malik Rose is. Basically Rose is worthless, except as an expiring contract and a kindly veteran presence happy to enjoy his courtside seats. Which is to say: a fantastic haul for Al Harrington and his whining and his remaining 2/$20M.

All Vecsey heard

was the the Knicks were getting Al, He just was guessing who the Knicks would then give up, there are no sources to who it actually being Malik. If you read the articles it makes it clear, he is just guessing on who the Knicks might give up.

Malik Rose...

…is useless as a basketball player. The contract does expire, so I suppose that’s something, and the Warriors are in an awkward predicament of having a very deep young team that doesn’t have a lot of minutes open for a guy to come in anyways. You’re not going to make a trade for a guy like Crawford when you have Morrow, Jackson, Azubuike, and Eliis returning. That’s too many guys who need minutes to produce. Crawford is uniquely redundant amongst that group, as well.

If Don Nelson ever, though, EVER plays Malik Rose ahead of Brandan Wright, I’ll lose it.
