Thanks, Al

Al certainly didn't go out with a bang, but I enjoyed his presence the last year or two.  He was really fun to watch when he was on, he had some big performances for us, and most of all, he was neither Mike Dunleavy nor Troy Murphy.  Really likeable guy.  He had a falling out with Nellie, but that's certainly not the first time that's happened with Nellie... I don't think it means Al was unprofessional or a bad Warrior.

My biggest memory of Al is actually of his defense: of the killer job he did against Yao last year (not unlike Maggette's schooling of Aldridge the other day).  Al was, if not a great player, an interesting, versatile player, and he lit up the Oracle on a good number of nights.  I will remember him fondly.

Any other fond memories of Al can go here (or elswhere, if a mod's going to start a thread like this).

Beat me to it!

I’m really gonna miss Al. Great guy. I haven’t met a single person who had a negative thing to say about him.

Also, a community contributor

I remember the anti-violence presentations he did last year with JAX – that was cool.

Does anybody have that one picture of J Rich Pietrus and Harrington in the center? That’d be a pretty cool picture to post up, just to look at who left (among many others) the Dubs since that magical season that came up with our motto that seems to have been stolen throughout all kinds of sports arenas across the nation: We Believe. And I still do believe. GO DUBS!

The fondest memory

Was when he almost got 10 rebounds.

Okay, that was mean

I always liked Al and the personality he brought to the team. Seemed like everyone loved him and he loved everyone.

All members of the We Believe team are special to me

That was such an unbelievable season, it’s hard to believe the good times lasted only 3 months. Al definitely chipped in, playing the 5 for a couple of months and holding his own. Hard to forget when he finally heated up in the playoffs, too.

In a way, Al rose and fell with the We Believe movement. He showed up, got hot, made history and then faded away.

Thanks Al!

Happier Times and not many of them left from these pics!!

Just a real shame the way he went about his exit! I would wager 90% of the blame for his image now rests with his agent. Seems to me that Agents spend most of their lives living under a rock, come out to suck blood for while then crawl right back under tha rock!

al

I will always remember and miss Al for his personality, on the court and off. Him and Stephen both brought so much fun and excitement to this team. From the soulja boy during practice to their pre-game dance shenanigans that I always love. peace al, see you in New York in a week! go Yankees??!

I loved Al

And what he gave the team. I totally agree, his most inspiring performance was against the Rockets when he was matched up with Yao. What a great game. You’ll be missed for sure, but I still love the trade. Good luck in NY

good call onlxn

on the harrington v yao games. those were some good times, yao is an embarassment to people of height. good luck al.

"They can trade me," Bonds said. "I don't think they will, though. It's not like I want to be traded, man. I'm a Giant. I'm stuck here till the end."

My favorite memory of Al

It was Valentines day a couple years ago. My husband thought that since I was cool enough to not force him to take me to a restaurant (or something) instead of the game – he would surprise me with upgraded seats.
We sat right by the tunnel.
After the game was over- we won – Al threw his jersey up at the crowd and it landed right in my hands. Hella sweaty and gross but I did not care. Ironically, we were playing the Knicks.
I brought it back a couple games later and was able to get it signed by pretty much everyone except Baron. It hangs up over my fireplace now.
Great reminder of an amazing season.
We’ll miss ya AL!

It's a new day in Warriorland

I remember

His dunk over Lebron last year when we played the Cavs at home. I hope Al has a hell of a year with the Knicks like Pietrus is doing with the Magic, Barnes with the Suns.

I think id rather have had them trade for Duhon

Not to hate on Crawford, I havent seen much of his play since i cant stand the Kicks, but I do have Duhon on my fantasy squad as a utility player and he has been putting together some quality games with assists consistantly in the high 6, 7’s per game as well as knocking down about 2 treys a game.

He’s more of a true PG and i remember him lighting up the warriors last year in chicago. Am I totally off to think he serves the team better as more of a natural 1, so that Monta could play his natural 2 spot?

by meximocha on Nov 21, 2008 1:21 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I don’t think Knicks would have wanted to trade away Duhon since they just got him at the beginning of the season. This move was really to get a Crawford’s contract off the books to prepare for the 2010 free agent market in New York.

Ummm..........

i think this post is dedicated to the memories of TMNT as a Golden State Warriors. Who you think we should have gotten for Al isn’t appropriate. Besides….DUHON???? PUKE!!!!!!!

Anyways….Al’s biggest performance was last year in the pre-season when he did the Soulja Boy dance with Baron and Jax on the bench. YOOOUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!! Unforgetable. Lets all bow our heads for a moment of silence.

YOOOOOUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah thanks Al

for faking a back injury. Very classy.

Not sure that was all Al

I suspect as I have said elsewhere that the agents hand has been all over what has been released, said, quoted, etc etc. By all accounts Al seems a good guy and I CHOOSE to believe that it was more likely a scumbag agent somewhere that was steering the boat when it came to information getting out.

Unless of course you can provide us with a vid clip or recording of Al, disrespecting the team, Nelli, or how much he does not want to be here, etc.

I dont agree with how he went about his business, but equally think a lot of this was stirred up by another party.

Good luck in New York Al, hope it works out for you.

I didn't

nothing personal, but as a player, he performed terrible / very dissapointing in 90% of the games. Too irregular, too emotional, let his emotions take him out of the game, losing confidence in himself quickly. Did NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING to improve something that he was blessed with (a great body) – rebounding

I won’t miss a piece of him.

Sorry for being too harsh.

Memories...

I’d agree about him playing Yao. That game he gave a great effort and that was the first time I saw Nellie completely out-coach somebody (VanGundy?).

I always liked Al but I can’t say he was that fun to watch. He always seemed to be moving faster than his body could handle. Real herky-jerky. I always wished I could just tell him to calm down. I think Nellie made him nervous.

I wish him the best in NY.

Best Memory Of Harrington

My Favorite memory of Harrington was his layup with 2.4 seconds left to put the warriors ahead and eventually win. Man this is a whole new team from the one two years ago

by GarciaWarriors8 on Nov 21, 2008 4:04 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Best Memory

I was at the Rockets game where Harrington did a great job on Yao. I overall liked Harrington, but at times he frustrated me, a la missed layups and inability to pass. Funny how he was so coveted in the summer before the season we ended up getting him, and things just didn’t work out the way we planned. Best of Luck Michelangelo (or was it Raphael? Maybe Donatello?)!

I’ll miss catchin Al drivin his Phantom around down town SF lookin like its just another Honda haha. He was a great personality, too bad things didnt work out. Maybe if he would’ve taken a smaller role to remain a team player it wouldve worked. I could still see him gettin 13-15 off the bench as he did in his earlier days with the Pacers. Worst part is now I gotta adjust my line up in 2K9. LOL

Ah.. yes..

he was a very likeable guy, and even though I am now glad he is gone, it is hard not to feel sad that another player from the “We Believe” era is gone. Harrington was sooo skilled and built for our system, he just never panned out for us.
